I'm a paralegal for intellectual property law for both patent prosecution and patent litigation... and will be doing the same thing when I get to Austin in a couple of weeks!!!

It seems we have a number of paralegals in here.  That's basically the work I'm doing until I get back into finance, which is my natural habitat.

Just swinging by to say hello. So, hello!

I got to go to my first track practice yesterday!!!! I think I was actually more inhibited by a cold than from time off for surgery. Coach just had me do a relatively easy 24 minute tempo @ 7:00 ish then some strides. It was so nice to be back!

Not sure if I will be in shape to make any sort of an attempt to run the 10K at nationals in 3 weeks but we will see.

Hope all is well in Manatee-land!

It means I help with writing initial claims, research prior art, review office actions from the US Patent & Trademark Office, etc., etc., etc. for things like Google Glass and their Loon project http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wPvd3EJ7mg which has been very cool to work on... and apparently I'll be doing some of the exact same work with the new firm.  WOOT!

You got the job!!!!!!  YAYYAYYAYYAYYAY!!!  'Bout time they figured out how brilliant you are!!  So excited for you!!

I am a SGT (E-5) in the United States Army. I play with Blackhawk Helicopters as a mechanic/crew chief. I have 16 mths left on my contract, then I will be looking for a civilian job after a 6 year reset in the Army. i am in a debate of getting a Personal Trainer Certification and work towards coaching, health fitness or maybe something similar. Still deciding and trying to figure things out, I know a desk job is not necessarily my cup of tea.

Previous career was in event production handling all of the technical aspects of concerts, trade shows, plays, weddings, etc.

I was starting to write my 'job description' earlier and my computer shut itself off.  Weird, no?

I work in the Research Computing department of Penn State College of Medicine, on the same campus as Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, overall employer PSU, but most of my work is funded by grants from national entities like NIDDK, NIH, NHLBI, etc..  I work with a small team to program applications which are used in clinical/research studies across the US to gather data for later analysis which will either support or disprove whatever hypothesis/outcome that was predicted.  I also help program and maintain registries for certain diseases with which we gather and use data in all sorts of ways from improving patient care to tracking provider performance.  Occasionally I also work on websites for different groups within the college/hospital.  I sit a lot.

But perks are flexible hours, decent benefits, and a fair amount of PTO.  Plus it's easy to find out about paid or unpaid research studies that are done on campus like my free bone density scan the other day; it was for researching repeatability of results of DEXA scans.  That study wasn't paid but I know my bones are healthy and it was extremely interesting talking to the researcher, who is also a co-worker and faculty member at the college.  I got to see a whole other side of her and her work.

I have a new race and a new virtual run on the schedule. A shadow Atlanta Peachtree Road Race 10k on July 4th and doing a virtual 10 miler with Solar-Fit Team RWB. The virtual will be more of a training run but will be a fun run. I am going to do the virtual 10 miler that Saturday.

Hi All,

Dropping in to say hello *waving vigorously*.   Hope all is well with all of you.   I have been doing a strength training program for the past 5 months but am starting to need more so I am back to BT to log workouts and see my calendar turn peachy.   I am doing a duathlon this weekend (my 1st multidiscipline race in 2 years) to hopefully find the love again.  Hoping hard that I have some muscle memory to run and bike.

Stay happy!  {{{GROUP MELONPRESS TO ALL}}}

Good for you!  Hope you don't melt.  How's the A/C situation coming along?  Out of curiosity, how do you make the shadow and virtual runs different from your daily runs?

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
