I know the feeling.  I worked in downtown Denver when the Democratic National Convention was here in 2008.  We had snipers on our building's roof and there were armed vehicles with police in SWAT gear driving all over the place.  It makes me very grateful that I don't live somewhere where that kind of police/military presence is commonplace.

But seriously, it's becoming ridiculous.

Ben- you're doing some serious tri recruiting   Glad you all had a good time.

Ann-Marie - this might help with Tom's idea

Melanie- nice that your wetsuit issue worked out so well!

Jonathan- that's horrible about the bikers. I can't imagine that she won't have survivor's guilt, but I hope she'll eventually be able to use it in a positive way.

After wandering around and cheering, staying hydrated, fueled, warm and stretched, anything else I "should" do while I bide my time?

Looks like you've about got it covered, except you left out "have fun."

Isn't that part a given ?

Ben that sounds like a great family/friend event!  Stacey, you have some beautiful scenery!  Melanie, that is awesome about the wetsuit!  Under $50 beats a few hundred any day.

School is in for me--I have already identified the know it all of the group.  On day 1.  Not good     Had a hard time getting myself out for my run today--I ended up with just 3km, but better than nothing!  Early morning strength session for me tomorrow.  My butt still hurts from Monday...  Happy hump day everyone!

Erin, relax and visualize. One of the tricks that I am in the process of learning is visualization and it really does have value. See yourself riding lightly, quickly, and efficiently. See yourself riding aggressively where possible, carefully where necessary, and efficiently. Close your eyes and relax, all the while setting yourself up for a successful and fun ride.

Ooh, how exciting, Erin!  Chris speaks the truth.  I agree visualization has a lot of value.  I often partner it with meditation and meditative breathing pre-event.  I use it  before TKD and hockey and, of course, tris.  It tends to be calming mentally, emotionally, and physically and pulls in focus.  Have fun out there and keep the rubber side down!

That's funny, because I keep visualizing rain on the rocky downhill sections...followed closely by rain on the rocky uphill sections Thanks for the calming reminder, guys.

Ah well, I know that you had some mixed feeling about how it would work out for your son. I'm sure that something will turn up for you when the timing is a bit better.

Hey now, I'm in CO so you can still come up this way!  I'm on the Front Range, not the Western Slope, though, so that makes the trip a little farther unless I meet you in the middle.  Or I could maybe come to a TX/NM/AZ meet-up.  I'm also planning to do that Zion HM in March if you want to join me...

And they do make bike racks for motorcycles.  Funny you should mention that; TJ and I were just talking about it this past weekend.  Goggle "motorcycle bicycle carrier" and you'll get lots of results.  Here's an example:

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
