In case anyone wants the details from the Weather Channel (bored and looked them up): Sunrise today at 6:00 AM, sunset at 5:30. (Actually its's pretty light by about 5:45 AM, the sun's just not up yet, and stays light enough to run or bike without lights until around 5:45 PM, thus the "12 hour" estimate.) But we actually appear to be at 11:30 hours, which makes a bit more scientific sense.

Right now at 7 PM, it's 84 degrees and 70% humidity, with a heat index of 91. I have the sliding glass door open and am actually lying here on the couch thinking the breeze is pleasantly cool now even without AC.

Tomorrow AM when I'm finishing up my run, temps should be at their forecast low for the day--78 degrees with 88 percent humidity, heat index of 84. I would not consider that a "hot" morning. It actually isn't bad for running, until the sun comes out and things climb into the 90's. But day-to-day life here is something else--I went down to the basement bike park to pump my commuter bike tires, around 6:15, for maybe 10 minutes, and was drenched with sweat when I came back up.

Yes! Cold isn't bad (my desert cold) but want my daytime. Only 10 hours of sun. Officially 7:18-5:21 lol.

I'll trade you.  7:50 - 4:13

So if I say 4:15am through to 7:30pm will I get kicked out of the group?

So Mary I made the paczki today. I think they turned out well, if I do say so myself. My hungarian partner can be the judge when she gets here (and DS1's professor is also from Poland) so I can hear if they are authentic enough

Nah, you're dealing with winter when we are basking in the summer so turn about is fair play.

Funny, it never occured to me that locales close to the equator would have little shift in the amount of daylight throughout the year even though I am quite aware of the opposite at the poles. I could do without the short days but i do love the long ones so I guess it's a trade-off.

Quick drop-by here.  Hope you're all doing well.  I'm not up to going back a few pages to catch up; I'm  not feeling so great today.

My concussion symptoms are about the same: computers and reading suck, night driving isn't great, and swimming is off the table.  I'm going to a neuro-optometrist tomorrow.  Who knew such a specialty existed?!  I'm hoping he can give me a treatment plan other than rest and maybe an idea about when I can return to work.  Sometimes I think I'm just being a wimp and then I try to do something like fill out some paperwork or some such.  That gives me a big fat reality check that yes, there really is something wrong and no, there's no way I could work at my current job or in my current profession.  I'm trying to stay positive but it gets hard sometimes. Maybe I'll just become a professional dog-walker or something.

On the positive side, my HM training is going well and I get to do all my running in the daylight, for which I'm *very* grateful!!  Tri team weekly workouts start this weekend and I'm also going to join RWB folks for weekly runs. The team kick-off meeting was last week and it's a pretty cool bunch of people. I like the coach a lot and am looking forward to getting to know folks more than just on FB. If I'm not able to get back to swimming in time to do tris next year, I know of at least one person who will do a relay with me. We might even tackle a HIM!!

I miss all the Manatee chatter and think about you lots.

(((Hugs)))

Hoping the good stuff with the new team and coach help distract you from your post-concussion woes, and hoping even more the neuro-optometrist has some possible answers/treatments for you.  Take care, and (((hugs))) right back atcha!

One of the things I had been looking forward to was actually not so much losing the sling, but being able to simply take a shower without extensive use of bandages and protective coverings. Finally have doctor approval for that.

That's wonderful, Ben!!  Progress feels so good, especially when it means not having showers be such a production!!

I had my eye appointment today and got great news.  With a different set of contacts combined with glasses that have prism lenses, my vision symptoms are virtually nonexistent.  While wearing this really cool looking contraption that looked like uber-steam punk glasses, I went to the grocery store across the street and was able to scan the shelves with no problem whatsoever.  Then I came back to the office and the doctor had me noodle around on the internet with them on.  Again, no problems.  As soon as my new glasses come in, I can go back to work.  The doctor (a former triathlete!) said to act like I'm doing interval training when I'm working: work 30 minutes, take a break, repeat, never go max effort or I'll be done for the day.  It made me laugh when I asked him to pull up VeloNews as a place for me to start looking at the internet.  He said he reads it every day.   Now that's my kind of doctor!  He told me that the vision problems I've been having will gradually go away and I won't have to wear the prism glasses forever.  It's such a relief to know that this isn't permanent and there's something that can be done to address the problem until my brain completely heals.

I'm excited to get back to reading and swimming and being able to watch movies.  I should be able to swim with just the contacts since I don't need to focus my eyes on anything for that.  As for work, while I don't totally love my job, I'm really really glad that I'm not going to lose it.  I'd much rather leave on my own terms than because of a stupid bump on the head.  Oh yeah, and I'm *really* excited to get back into the Pod goings-on.

YAY YAY YAY!!!!!! That is so very cool to hear Mary. I'm dancing around my office because I am so happy for you.

My glasses permanently have prisms in them to aid with focus, especially when dealing with computers. I had totally forgotten about this until I read your post. I also find that turning the brightness of my screens down helps heaps and often I work without my office light on to reduce brightness.

Piecaken - I know someone who did the pie in a cake thing last year.  She said that it was good.  It was for her family so I got none :-/  I actually think that she did a store bought bike and a spice cake mix.

Bike work stand - what did you get? I need a replacement/upgrade.

Sunlight - Roughly 7am-5pm here in Raleigh (7:14-5:01).  So glad that the days will start getting longer soon!

Mary - I am so sorry that you are going through the post-concussion stuff!  We are all thinking of you.  {{hugs}}  I'm really glad that the running is going well.  That's something, at least.  Oh!  Excellent news on the prism glasses!  That doctor is worth his weight in gold!

Ben - More progress!

I've just had a busy week at work. There was a statewide conference that I had to attend and present at and support.  Zoe still needs a lot of supervision so catching up at home is not in the cards right now.  I hope that everyone is doing well.

I am happy that this is my last work Friday of the year!

One more week here too. Think I am "short-timing" it at this point. Things that are normally fine are just getting annoying. It's not so much work as I'm tired of feeling hot all the time. Just want to go for a few runs where I don't feel like I'm going to puke by the end of an hour, and want to get up in the morning and not pour sweat while cleaning the cat box or brushing my teeth. Just not looking forward to almost 24 hours of holiday flying hell. Can never sleep on planes and even at not quite 5'8", my legs are screaming with cramps after a few hours in Economy. No idea how the big and tall crowd manage it.

Mary --glad you are going to be able to get back to reading, work, and, more importantly BT and such. Actually taking a break from the computer every 30 minutes or so is probably healthier for everyone---definitely for anyone who's had hamstring, back, or piriformis issues or, like me, is hyperactive. If I have to sit beyond 30 minutes, I can't focus anyway, no matter how well I can see the screen!
