It's too late in the day to be heading to the gym after work. When I originally chose this schedule, my thoughts were I would go to the gym before work since they open at 5. And I did that for a few weeks, but now I am tired of it! I always had the option to say no I don't want to go to the gym this early, but now having to go to work that early, I don't have the option! I'm trying to trick my brain to where I can be the most productive with my day. So now 3 days a week I am going in at 6AM and working until 2:30 PM. So we shall see how it goes! Not feeling too much better this morning. I think I may have the Flu woke up with chills, body aches and a fever this morning. Ashley Originally posted by awalden22 Originally posted by blueyedbikergirl I am right there with you! I want to move out of the Midwest so very badly. I hate this season and I am getting tired of it. This year has been the worst in a long time. It's like winter will never end! And because of the stupid snow and ice and cold, I have had to put the brakes on training for a bit. Yesterday coming into my house from the garage I slipped and fell on some ice that was covered by snow on our sidewalk and fell completely on my left side and whacked my head really good on the pavement. Ouch! This is bad because my left shoulder isn't in the greatest of shape anyways and now it is just terribly painful. And my left leg and my left elbow hurt like hell (I have giant bruises). I really did a number on myself. I was so sore today, I couldn't even think about going to the gym. Plus it's so snowy and the roads are so bad it makes it almost impossible to get there anyways! Uggghhhhh will it ever be over? On a more positive note, I have switched my schedule at work to where I am going in earlier and leaving earlier 3 days out of the week so that I have more time in the afternoons to train. Super pumped about that! Ashley Originally posted by cdban66 Monica, I noticed you have a timeline for moving. Do you have a destination yet? Ideally, we'd like to be closer to my parents for when they live in Casa Grande, AZ during the winter - which sadly means that I don't think FL will fit that bill... We're contemplating Austin (we may or may not have been looking at places in Austin already...), SoCal, or somewhere in AZ - just not sure which yet. A lot will depend on what kind of job Tony can get, or if his current company would allow him to work remotely. Wherever we end up... NO MORE WINTER!! Ouch! Take care of yourself. I hope that you are feeling better this morning. Great news about the work schedule! Chris and I both work until 4:00. I think that it's awesome! Plus I'm not a morning person and this gives me an hour or more before I have to actually speak to anyone Yikes!! I'm so sorry to hear about your fall - and the flu! Take care of yourself, woman! |

Foxy Tom - excellent, excellent swim times, dude! Ashley - that fall sounds very painful - hitting your head, too? ouch. Please take care and heal!! Dang ice. Janyne - Trader Joe's has poutine?! Mmmmmmm, drool... we really need a Trader Joe's in my area. And a Wegman's. We really have some fairly average chain grocers here by and large. Chris - I use Swim Outlet and TriSports and Amazon the most, occassionally order from Running Warehouse or some other merchants. Sorry for my absence yesterday but I didn't go to work because of the ice storm. We had close to a half an inch of ice on top of the big, wet snow from Monday which brought down trees and wires and made travel very difficult not just for the slippery roads but because of all the downed trees/wires. I lost power around 5 am and am still without power. PP&L (electric co) sent a message saying they hope to have it restored by 11 pm Saturday, although some customers may get service before that. DH is working in MD so the dogs and I packed up and went over to Dad's/sister's who, although only a mile away, still had electric. Actually, houses on the other side of the cross street near me have power. In addition to the loss of power, I had a huge limb come down at my house and JUST miss my car. I was outside chipping at ice on the porch when I heard it going. It demolished the little fence at the end of the driveway and ripped a few boards off the neighbor's fence. big branch Too close for comfort! demolished fence icy Japanese Maple at my house

Take care of yourself. I am a morning workout person, when I was a gym guy I'd go at 5:00, then in to work at 6:30. Now with run training and my carpool situation, I am still able to get out in the morning. It took a bit of adjustment when I started going to the gym, but after a few weeks it was second nature. I tell people to do the "5 minutes more a day" trick for a couple of weeks. Just go to bed 5 minutes earlier and wake up 5 minutes earlier each day. In a couple of weeks you've reset your internal clock a bit. But you do have to commit to it. I found that if I sleep late on the weekend, my Monday will suck. So late for me on the weekend is 6. Luckily, TW is an early riser as well which really helps. |

Whatever works, try to keep the sleep pattern as regular as possible every day. I've gone for long periods working out every morning to like now with entirely after work. Both have worked well and have depended on the consistency. Later works better now because Masters is so late for me. Mornings were getting too tough. Also trying to keep the week so regular that there is little to no need to "make up" sleep on the weekends. That doesn't work as well as we think. |

Word on the street is that a tree took out one of the high-tension wires that requires a special crew to fix. IDK, I'm still hoping for a quick fix while realistically realizing that it may be a while. |

Yesterday was so bad with falling things that cars were getting hit by trees while driving. I heard one fellow from my area was on the Today show with his clip about getting nailed by a tree while driving in Lancaster city. Obama just declared my county as a federal disaster area: http://lancasteronline.com/news/local/obama-declares-lancaster-county-a-federal-disaster-area/article_851cb56a-8f60-11e3-8d16-0017a43b2370.html FUN! |

Icy trees this am in the sun Some of the worst weather we experienced was when we lived in and then just outside of Philly. It's the only place I've a had a tornado rip out a window (my then 2 year old daughter's room!) and crush one of our cars! Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Why oh WHY???? My stupid ankle is sore again! Its not nearly as bad as it was last time, but it is pretty sore...I am pretty sure that it was brought on by having to wear my super un-comfy rubber work boots---the last 3 days I was in the carnivore section, which, unless I WANT to walk around in wet pants, I need to wear the icky boots. Sadly, it means pain...lots of pain. Once I put on normal shoes with some support, the pain recedes--I bet that after a full day in normal shoes, I will be fine. It does worry me a bit though. |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Hey Kate I bet your foot problem is from your boots not having enough foot support in them. Is there anyway that you could get some inner soles for them to add a bit of cushion and support? Also Thanks for all the shoe advice everyone, I will check out the running warehouse. Up until about 9 months ago I was wearing Asics with inner soles in them. They were ok but not great. So in May of last year I managed to get to the only running store I know of in Perth to get shoes. They put you on a treadmill walking in bare feet to see what your feet do then based on that they fit your shoes and send you jogging up and down the footpath outside the shop for a couple of minutes to check the fit. I ended up with Brooks Adrenalines. They felt so comfortable that I was tempted to wear them in my race the next day - but you know nothing new on race day. My plan was to use them for a bit and see how they went and if they were ok then to buy online after that. They have been ok but I get burning across the soles of my feet every now and then and achey feet every so often. I have hunted around online for them at a decent price from somewhere that will ship to Australia but haven't had much luck. Anyway after Christmas I managed to score another pair for 40% off (still $170) but I could only get them 1/2 a size bigger. They still feel ok but not great. I am wondering though if the problem isn't my running shoes but the fact that it is summer and when I'm not at work (and sometimes when I am) I have pretty much lived in thongs (flip flops) for the last 4 months. Anyone have issues caused by that before? |

They felt so comfortable that I was tempted to wear them in my race the next day - but you know nothing new on race day.My plan was to use them for a bit and see how they went and if they were ok then to buy online after that. They still feel ok but not great.I am wondering though if the problem isn't my running shoes but the fact that it is summer and when I'm not at work (and sometimes when I am) I have pretty much lived in thongs (flip flops) for the last 4 months. Anyone have issues caused by that before? Even in the winter, I pretty much live in flip flops! I've even been known to forget to put on real shoes when headed to work . I've never had the issue you describe, but maybe if you don't live in them year round like I do, when you start wearing them there is an adjustment period as your feet get used to not having support. Maybe? |

Is there anyway that you could get some inner soles for them to add a bit of cushion and support? Superfeet for your books! Love the idea! |

Places like Swimoutlet use MyUS.com for international shipping. It looks like that would cost about $50 for 5 pounds. Pfft. I wonder if Wiggle will work for you? Nevermind, it doesn't look like they carry either brand. Surely we can solve this problem! |
