Terps421 - 2011-05-02 5:29 AM Great race David, and congrats on cutting so much time off!

Sub 3 on your first Oly is worthy of celebration!!  Don't forget to write that RR and gives us the details about your T1!! Laughing

RR is written, in my logs.

My T1 was a bit of a drama! You had to run with the bike up a wet grassy slope to get on the mount area on the road and I put my right foot on top of my shoe and leaped up but couldn't get on the bike, after a few seconds I realised my gusset area on the tri shorts was snagged round the back of the saddle. Somehow I'd already slipped my right foot into my shoe so I had to quickly swing my other leg back round and do some wierd hopping while trying to unhook my shorts.

Gave the officials a laugh!!!

As I finished my bike leg I slipped my feet out of my shoes and put them on top but one shoe jammed into the road due to the camber, any suggestions on avoiding this?Embarassed

No, no, you have to do a real RR so we can all comment : )

And as for your shoes, do you mean while you were pushing your bike or while your feet were on top?

This morning was the coldest temperature I have ever ridden a bike. It was 35 degrees when we left the Y parking lot. I was dressed for it and after the first two minutes I was fine except for my feet which got colder and colder. By the time we stopped 65 minutes later it was about 44 degrees and had I been riding longer I would have shed the hat under my helmet and my fleece however the feet were as cold as they've ever been. I changed into my sneaker at the car and walking into the gym was hard to do as the feeling was gone. I sat in the hot tub with my feet out of the water to let the vapors warm them up as I was afraid to stick them directly in at first.

I will be purchasing a pair of the riding booties for certain.

Good ride though so I'm glad I sucked it up and didn't wimp out.

I was having issues earlier today but in general it's been fine for me. You could try a different browser to identify if that's the issue. So if you're using IE use FireFox, etc.

Yesterday, I started at around 40F with winds in excess of 20mph so I am sure it was equally as chilly.  I wear smartwool Phd socks and my feet were totally fine.  I was only wearing riding gloves so my hands were cold, but I was so busy trying to stay upright I barely noticed it.  Smart wool might be an option vs. the booties which seem so cumbersome to me. I have toe caps and I barely wear those either....clipping an unclipping is a semi pain.

With the shoe thing, I was getting off the bike having ridden the last few metres with my feet on top, as soon as the my feet came off and the shoes swung down one of them jammed into the road

It could be that your cranks were not at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock.  I have found that if my cranks are horizontal like that, my shoes swing without hitting the ground.  The same may not be the case for you, depending on shoe size, bike size, etc.  you can check just by clipping your shoes in without the shoes being on your feet.

But I try (emphasis on try, considering that I occasionally forget to do it) to do precisely what you describe, and I find it speeds my T2 time.

And nice job on the Oly.  Sub-3 on your first is impressive.

Has anyone tried swimming in an endless pool? How did you like it? As a single mom I would be it would be alot easier to get in swim workouts in if I had a pool at the house. But they are very expensive.

Sorry Tiana, no experience with the Endless pool.  There is a guy who has a mentor group (Baowolf?) who had one installed at his home because he is 150 miles away from the nearest pool!  You could probably pm him and ask him about it.  He seems like a nice guy (steve is his name).

Chris (Spanky)-- that was an awesome post.  Thank you for sharing.  I think you have been so smart about taking the time you needed to heal while still staying positive and doing the hard work to get better and maintain your fitness and weight.  I loved what you said regarding if not this time, then next time.  And I will add, this time risking further setbacks would be much worse than next time in your best health.

It's a lifestyle, for sure, and you guys are all still so young!!!  Plenty of time.  We will all be here to watch your progress and root you on.  Whatever the event, from 5k's to Ultra's, Sprint Tri's to Double IM's!  Your health should be number one.

Tiana

i have.  ~45 minute swim lesson.  thought it was cool but i could see how it could get old pretty quick.  basically you control the jets which control how "fast" you swim.  so, that's either longer sets at the same speed or you have to continuously change the water speed.  definitely doable but just something to be aware of.   maybe the maintenance is something to consider as well.

Really great mojo here on the MG!

A personal observation:

As 2011 has porgressed I have been slowly ramping up my swims. It is the beginning of May and I have already reached 2/3 of my swim total for all of last year. Reviewing the year today I noticed a few things:

1. Regular recovery is critical. You can only measure your progress after you allow yourself to recover.

2. You are capable of more than you know. The ditances I cover now semed only a distance dream a few months ago.

3. Training is like climbing a long flight of steps. Each step moves you foward, but you need the landings along the way to rest and recover.

4. Once you have developed a base you can really believe in the saying "trust in your training" on race day. All the work has been done by then and it is easier to have confidence.

Greetings from China MG peeps!  Sorry for the lack of update after my race.  After the race, we made the 1.5 hour drive back to my in-laws, did yard work for them and then got home late with 2/3 of the boys while Kris stayed in PA to take Jeremy to some doctors appts Monday and he is having an out patient procedure today (prayers please!!  relatively minor surgery but sucks that I am half a world away while it is happening!).  Anyway got home late and had to pack and get the other two boys ready for school the next day.

So....race was not the PR I was hoping for.  Finished with 1:49:xx.  Pretty much a repeat of my last race in the sense that I ran out of leg around 9.5 miles.  Started with the 8:01 pace group with the plan to take off the last two miles to gain back 30 sec or so.  Was hanging with them fine and felt great through mile 9.  Then noticed that they were starting to pull away.  Couldn't keep them in range.  Not my year this year for a HM PR I guess!  Had fun and not loosing sleep over it.  Next time.

Kris finished with a 1:52:xx.  Although a couple of minutes slower than she wanted, she was happy.

Race was fun...about 4K people between the half and the 5k races.

Race report some day!

Get some extra training in for me this week.  I don't expect to be able to do much.

George

Can I just take a moment to tip my hat to those of the MG who run marathons regularly, and even those who have run just one marathon?  26.2 miles is a REALLY long way to run.  And those of you who finish in less than 4 hours, let alone BQ are amazing.

Just sayin'
