Be sure to buy the helmet that goes with it. Safety first!

I'm a firm believer in Safety Third. Beer and pizza are #1 and #2...

But since she's not even 3 yet, it'll be a few years before priorities change. So, yes, I'll buy a helmet. Safety first.

Part of my wants to commend you for respecting the parent's wishes when it comes to gift giving. Another part of me is thinking, hey, it's a bike. It's not like you're buying Call of Duty for an 8 year old.

Why would they not be ok with a bike as a Christmas gift?

I can't imagine them not being ok with it - but they're living in a relatively small place right now without much storage room (moving in the summer)... and the list they had for her had much more timely gifts. A bike in winter in PA isn't the most useful thing.

I did this last year  after mom and dad said OKAY because they thought the parental controls and "turn off blood" feature would be enough. It got traded in to a Game Stop promptly.

a big present is also good to ask cause they may have planned to buy a bike already or have santa give it.  my friend at work is really pissed that the grandparents bought her kids the big special thing they were planning from santa....

Why would they not be ok with a bike as a Christmas gift?

Maybe if they lived in a rural location and the only street was a busy road (ever see pet cemetery?)

However, unless it's complete innocuous, I would always probably run the gift idea by the parents just to be sure.

I agree.  Need to be sure you don't saddle the parents with expenses just to make your gift safe.

And pedals too with the proper shoes and cleats - You DO intend to start them off on the right foot, right?

My nephews are getting GIFT CARDS and CLOTHES this year.
At least the clothes are "cool" - I had to go into a Hollister store to get them. Couldn't see a thing.

Haha. The bike doesn't have pedals - or a crank! It's one of the balance bikes. They're supposed to be way better than training wheels for teaching a kid to ride. I'm excited.

Bro-in-law gave me the green light (and thanked me for a gender-neutral color choice - niece/nephew #2 is on the way)

She has a helmet - my mom got her one so she could ride in the kid's seat that attached to the back of her bike.

Were you also choked by the smell of air freshener in the scent of cologne/perfume?

Poor little Oliver is going to be a three legged cat   We saw the ortho vet. I dosed him with pain meds before we went so he was even more mellow than usual. The top of his foot is pretty much dead. The central pad MIGHT survive with multiple debridements, wet to dry dressings and a skin graft. Or we can amputate him and he can get on with being a kitten. I asked the vet what he would do if it were his cat and he said amputate so that is what we are doing. 80-90% of the cats get 80-90% of their function with 3 legs. I don't want to torture this poor little guy with multiple surgeries etc esp since it might not work and he already has a bad hip and knee on that side. If he only had 1 or 2 problems it would be one thing but I don't think we gain much by trying to save this leg only for it to be dysfunctional.  Poor little bugger

That store makes me laugh... when I first started seeing t-shirts with the 'Hollister' brand I was wondering "why the heck are people wearing shirts for a tiny little farm town?" then I saw the store in a mall and realized that some company branded the name.

Poor kitteh

On the upside, after surgery he will bounce right back and adapt just fine.  Critters are remarkable things.

Yep, they are not self aware enough to feel sorry for themselves or mourn the loss.  To them it's "just life" and don't know it could be different.  I blessing perhaps?

My puppy lost her hearing and partial site in one eye after an injury.  She seems to be just fine other than a little bit more reclusive since she can't follow the sounds of activity.  Even the vet said if she went completely blind and def, they can still be pretty happy since their sense of smell even helps them get around.

YES it's awful in there. But to their credit the clothes are not horrible expensive and on Black Friday the whole store was 40% off. I want my nephews to have cool kid clothes - I remember what junior high was like. Ugh!

Socks sorry to hear about your kitteh... he is lucky to have you!

I need to be on the diet plan he put the girls on.  It looked effective - and I can use it.
