![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Proof of life and I'm happy to be back ![]() Thanks everyone for the inspires and kudos in the last few months. Thanks for all the great words and support, it is super important to me. My son is doing great, can't wait for the summer (one more month of school!) I am back to the training, I re-installed Strava and started putting some workout in there ![]() No triathlons this season, but some other challenges: marathon on trail and 100 miles on mountain bike, so this year will be adventurous. I don't remember if I mentioned, but I am reaching my final decision of moving to Colorado next year... Hoping to cheer IM Boulder participants ![]() Cant' wait to be back to your stories, probably won't be able to keep up, but will try ![]() |

Originally posted by glfprncs PSA I do not recommend having a cycling cyst lanced & drained a mere 16 hours before running a half marathon. The run was fine, but the pain & discomfort now is not so awesome. I'm joining you in the uncomfortable post race club. I ran without socks which I'm normally fine with but for some reason it hurt like a you know what after about 2 miles so the last 4 were awful. I have blisters the size of credit cards on the arches of both my feet and I'm walking like a duck. Next time I'll be wearing socks... I really strongly suggest popping and draining them with a sterilised needle. I'm not saying doing this won't hurt a little but it provided great relief. I did it for a couple of days in a row as the fluid built back up. Keep the skin in tact as much as possible and just pin them. By day two of doing this I could walk much better, the balls of my feet were very tender for a long time and the skin eventually detracted itself in a number of spots and I cut it off totally maybe 3 or 4 weeks later. I recommend keeping it on as long as you can to provide some protection while the raw skin hardens up a bit. I will spare you all the photos ![]() |

I believe we'll be hearing more from you after mid May. I had my only event of the year in January, so my calendar is clear. Which is OK, although I should probably get something on the horizon to get me moving more. In more exciting news, after a year and a half of trail riding, we are on the hunt for another new bike. This one will be for TW and will probably include e-assist. Purists will poo poo this idea and I just don't care. She'll be blowing me away on the gravel and it'll push me to improve. And, we get to spend time together, which is always cool. Enjoy the weekend and race well if you are racing. Purist are dumb! I agree. What ever it takes. I have a friend who was very active have to go to an assisted, big wheeled recumbent to keep her heart rate within reason just to go "hiking" (good thing she lives in Fla.) and has gotten a lot of guff from people. A friend of my parents is in his late 70s and still does RAGBRAI every year. Some of his friends have moto assist. They just don't want to give it up and that's how they can continue to participate. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Belated congratulations to all of last weekend's racers! Karl - How was St. Anthony's? Dave - How was Paris to Ancaster? |
![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() St. Anthony’s was great! Swim was in the bay and the water was 76 & flat. It was a sunny day but not too warm for the run. My goal was simply to finish the race given my run training was woefully inadequate. I took it easy during the swim & the bike and had enough in the tank to finish running across the line. Success! On another note, it was impressive watching the pros swim. First out of the water was just over 18 minutes for 1.5k. |

To the point where during workouts I'm asking my self "why did I sign up for another IM?" I sure hope this passes or it's going to be a very long summer.................. You can fix that ;-) Randee will be in Chattanooga as well! I had a few workouts last week where I was like "I am not doing this again!" I even wrote it down. This week I started looking at more races. Bad Janyne! Bad! I knew that, but when i tried to double check myself I didn';t see it on her log, so i omitted her! I am having a serious lack of motivation these days, so I too looked for more races to see if i could fix it, but i have not committed to anything. yet. If my sister is in south florida at the proper time in June I will probably talk her into doing a sprint aqua bike -she is on run lock down, while i do a triathlon -sprint or oly. I agree, it'll pass. I had zero motivation prior to starting training for Santa Rosa. It was forcing myself to do an FTP test that finally got me going again |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congrats to all the racers last weekend. Sorry to hear about the outchie feet and nether regions.... Robin, sorry to hear you are still struggling; good for you for standing up for yourself--you ARE worth it! I am in the middle of taper madness, minus the madness for once....a very minor bit of obsessing (have I done enough) and worrying (be CAREFUL stepping off the curb. Did I sniffle? Line up the zinc and Vitamin C!), but much less than normal. Hopefully that means I am ready! Never had such an early race and the weather here has not been great for getting outside on the bike. Did a really interesting workout on Sunday--run 6 miles, bike 2 hours (was supposed to be 30 miles but waaaaay too rainy), then run 4 miles. Felt really strong for the whole thing and I was able to settle in on the brick run quite quickly---which never happens. Maybe I should switch to duathlons Hope everyone's week is going well! ETA: forgot to mention that we have not been able to get an OWS in yet....possibly Sat as the weather is warming up. Otherwise it will be a lake near the OR/CA border on the way to the race! Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good luck with the race! (Which one?) I am going through the same "taper madness" and still10 days to go. (OMG is it only ten days--panic!) Given my absolutely hideous record of getting sick or having family crises before races (which, sadly, wasn't just last year but has been a life-long trend), paranoia is probably justified. It would be a miracle just to show up reasonably healthy at the start line. Have to get the little kitty off my lap now and go run. She's my morning coffee buddy and just doesn't want to end her snuggling! |

The Run for the Zoo is Sunday and is a LOT of people in a small space. It's a popular one and I've never done it, so maybe. Orrr tomorrow is the Cinco de Mayo Cinco K. It's a small race put on by a LRS. I did it a couple years ago. It's a good chance to see local running friends, and the LRS is closing so it would be a good chance to bid the owner farewell. (he's not leaving, just closing the shop). Orrrr I might just leash up the dog and go find a trail. |
