Welp.. moving to the east coast isn't happening (at least for now), I've given up on the ultra in Ohio in June (I'm so not ready)... but... I am looking at this marathon. For those that don't care to look it's a completely downhill marathon with approx. 4,400 feet of elevation LOSS. BQ would be cool but lets be real, I'm slow.  I'm actually toying with the idea of doing the VIP. For "only" a couple hundred over the cost of the race itself I would get a 16 week training plan, private bus, warm bus till start (it's cold up there), massage, private food tents, yada yada yada. The training plan alone could be worth that money, that and the private bus (to me) are huge!!!!

Yikes! Went to look at the ocean at tomorrow's start time (6:10) and it is WILD. Big break about 50 or 100m offshore with whitecaps, and looks even rougher in the direction of the swim course (a little over a mile north of here). Not sure if I have just lost my perspective/nerve (Did I mention I am just a tad underprepared for this race? My life has been such a shyte show that I haven't done ANY races at all, not even a 5K or sprint tri, or swum in the ocean, since Worlds last September, and I have ridden my tri bike once outside, two weeks ago, since then) or it actually is getting into the realm of swim cancellation. It looks doable for pros and Australian surfers, but not sure about anyone else. A lot of triathletes here in Asia are very weak swimmers. Pretty sure that if swim is cancelled (it was discussed two years ago due to a chemical spill) that we would run a 5K before the bike.

Swim course will be open (or is supposed to be) later this morning, so I am going to have to come to grips with my issues if the swim is still on. Normally I'm a confident swimmer and one of the top in my AG--can't imagine what someone who isn't is thinking right now.....

oh no, I hope the water calms down for you! My 2d HIM was done when hurricane Sandy was making her way up the US coast. Even though it was on the other side of the state, the water was a mess. Swim was canceled b/c - according to the officials I spoke with in the hotel before the official announcement, they have to make sure the swim is safe for the weakest swimmer, not the strongest . The pro field didn’t swim either. In fact, water was too bad to make it safe for the safety kayaks.  Pros did a run instead, the rest of us lined up and ran in to T1 from the swim out area.  The bike was a bit windy too!

Thanks for the stalking love all! Bit of a tough day, walked a lot of the run but still happy with results! More once I don't feel like death!

Thanks also for the stalking! Survived the swim--actually I think it was my best time here. Very rough, though. I think I spent the first ten minutes just getting out through the break. Just had to make like a sea turtle and keep diving under big waves. Even out beyond the break there were a lot of swells. Nice ride back to shore, though. Never really felt the love on the bike but it was my fastest HIM split (I think) by a few minutes. Quite windy at many points on the course. Run was a suffer-fest as usual--I could tell my run fitness is really not where it was two years ago as time was about ten minutes off in similar conditions, but I did what I could with the fitness I have right now. Ended up fourth in my AG; missed out on the podium by about 5 minutes. 5:34:30 final time. Considering that two of the top-ranked 40-44 women in the world were in the race and just entered my AG, I'm not too sad about that. Actually kind of glad I don't have to stay for awards--just avoided heat exhaustion/cramping on the run, but it's really miserably hot now. Just feels good to sit in the AC and put my feet up!

Great job Kristen and Karen. Well done.

I had a great weekend.

The Friday night trail run was great - E and I did it with Mum cause it was her first ever trail run and her first run over 4K in months. She did great considering the hills. We were last by heaps so we were by ourselves, at one point we turned off our head lamps and stood under e massive trees and star gazed it was fantastic.

Saturdays half didn't finish well. I tripped at about the 1.3k mark and it's amazing what goes through your head as you fall. I knew that if I hit the dirt there would definitely be stitches and/or plaster involved because of the terrain. I managed to get my feet back under myself but in the process managed to tweak my left glute and hammy. Tried to keep going but heading up the next hill I knew that there was no way I could do another 20k. So I DNF'd for the first time.

Sunday was great. I turned out to be 16-17k of monster trees and hills and I loved it. Had a ball with E. Mum started but decided by then that her leg was done for the weekend so she stopped after about 500m.

I'll add some photos to my log.

Happy Monday Pod! Looks like all the racers had successful/fun events!!

My Monday became a little expensive when I took the plunge and ordered a power meter  For various reasons I decided on the Garmin Vector 3. It's on back order til the end of the month, so I have plenty of time to figure out what I'm supposed to do with it!!
