I really don't trust what I hear since there are so many conflicting reports. I want results. I want closure. And none of that is going to happen for a while because some really smart people need time to get the answers. Frustrating, but it is the process. It could just be semantics -- "Conflicting reports emerged this afternoon about whether a person had been taken into custody in the deadly terror bombings that struck at the Boston Marathon finish line on Monday. "While a source told the Globe that a person had been taken into custody and other news organizations reported the same, based on their own sources, the US attorney’s office and Boston police issued statements saying no one had been arrested." I just want them to get the right people the first time (no Richard Jewel)
Me too, I'll happily wait for the right things to happen. My frustration stems from the variety of reports that come out about things that are or aren't happening. It seems like I keep seeing different stuff every hour. Or at least I was until I gave up watching. |

In my experience that very often means they are people who are on the edges of the investigation and don't have all the true facts, but just want to feel important. Also, talking when you shouldn't can compromise investigations. jmkizer - 2013-04-17 3:06 PM cdban66 - 2013-04-17 3:03 PM Boston is sooooo tough right now. I can't watch the news right now. The push to be "the first" to break the story just puts so much crap and misinformation out there. And replaying the same stories and footage over and over...ugh. I'll watch some tonight. |

I thought of Salty and the other runners when I read it. That's a great article. I was saying the same thing to my co-worker today, that I feel for the marathoners who had great performances and those who put their heart and soul into the training (and perhaps fundraising) and didn't get to finish. I apologized for being concerned about that, given the bigger issues - death, destruction, casualties, fear - but really it impacted so many people in so many ways. Whoever did this robbed so many people of something special, and it SUCKS. No one should feel guilty for embracing their accomplishment or being sad that they didn't get to finish their long journey. You can be sad about more than one thing at once, or happy about something while you're sad about another. That the beauty of the complexity of the human heart. |

And if you have a budget and that's all you can afford what do you choose if fit isn't an issue? (Sorry to change the subject but my heart needs a diversion from Boston and other tragic stuff that has happened in our family over the last 6 months. My BIL was killed in a horrible farm accident in September and last night I found out that his son has been admitted to hospital after having a nervous breakdown, he is 30 years old. I don't know what to do to help.)Artemis - 2013-04-17 2:08 PM ukweeble - 2013-04-17 12:29 PM jmkizer - 2013-04-16 11:56 PM StaceyK - 2013-04-16 6:30 PM So if you have narrowed it down to just these 2 why don't you go back again this weekend and ride just these two and see which one you feel better on, be it because of colour or fit or both combined. I have a Giant Avail 1 which is the women's version of the Defy, being the lower model it has a mixture of Sora and Tiagra components on it. The gearing is Tiagra and while it isn't supa smooth it works well enough for this BOP girl. Maybe if I ever do a HIM I will look at upgrading, but I got to finish studying before I can't even think about that. Come on Stacey! That makes way too much sense! Sounds obvious but the bike shop had neither in stock in my size (extra midget), so i could only test their slightly more exotic bigger brothers which use the same frame but different components and colour schemes. Ultimately i do have to look at price as i will also have to add a few goodies/necessities such as trip comuter and water bottles and poss tri bars so here is the breakdown of actual cost to me including the relevent staff discount. Excluding my add ons. Focus 2.0 SL with Ultegra £568 Focus 3.0 SL with 105 set up £511 Giant Defy 1 with 105 set up £500 Giant Defy 2 with Tiagra £400 My target was £400 but the Defy 1 is looking good value now i have them all written down like this. Who needs a water bottle anyway? I like having the best components you can get. I'm also curious if there is a difference between the two different frames. While I agree with you that I'd go with 105 or Ultegra, given the choice, if the frame doesn't fit, that can only be fixed so much and if it's uncomfortable, well, you have yourself a £500 cloths rack. Both frames are aluminum and the Focus has a carbon fork. The Focus has an FSA Gossamer and the Giant has a Shimano R565 crankset. Both are 50/34 (compact). |

Master 3870 | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED Lots of good bike talk earlier. I had nothing to add, of course, but was soaking it up like the newishbie that I am. I haven't really (ummm...at all) used the drops or hooks. I even had to look up an article to know what the hand positions are called . But you got me to thinking, Is this something I should be practicing? Something I can only do while on the road or can be done on trainer...the hand transitioning and shifting practice? I've got a swim on the agenda tonight. Definitely learned a few things last Friday (besides that people are willing to video a struggling swimmer cuz it makes them feel good about their own technique ): left arm really low coming out and crosses over WAY far, and closed fist drills got me working on elbows up. (sigh. and to think this is better than it was?) Positives: I'm more balanced than I was a few weeks ago, and... I'm swimming tonight. |

Totally random whine: One of the things I was most pissed about is that Mutti somehow contracted Hepatitis C--yes that is VERY FORKIN' SERIOUS--and was treated for it WITHOUT NOBODY EVER TELLING ME OR MY SISTER ANYTHING. WTF MOFO &%$#!!! Also, there's only two places she could have possibly gotten it--that horrendous hospital that nearly killed her last May, or the horrendous dentist (makes the guy in Little Shop of Horrors look good) whose only qualification we know of is that she was one of my dad's mistresses. See why I'm totally frackin' nuts?! Well you couldn't make this stuff up could you? Having you and your sister to take care of her will only be beneficial. Wish I could help physically - get my azz over to Jakarta but not really possible! Anyway just know I wish I could. |

I think that is the hardest part, not being able to help. I'm glad you asked that question though. I have tried to read up a fair bit on bike components over the past year. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think as far as components go: Sora<Tiagra<105<Ultegra. I think those are just the names (i'm sure they mean something...) Aluminium<Carbon parts<Full Carbon with respect to frame, forks, etc 50/34 crankset means that there are 2 chainrings, one with 50 teeth, one with 34. AS opposed to a triple, which has one extra chainring. I can't talk about the cassette--I just know there are a whole bunch o' cogs with different numbers of teeth |
