YOu guys. I have ridden a bike 2 days in a row now! O..M....F.....G.

I love riding the mtb! I ride up over curbs and down stairs just because I can. Although, it's so fun and so different from just getting to work as fast as possible on the roadie that it takes me twice as long to get to work lol

I haven't been on a bike since the end of June.  I may be at risk of being kicked out of BT!!

Kingsley and I are both pretty shattered. His swim squad (was one of the best in the country, and therefore world; several Olympic champions and a crapton of awesome national pool, open-water and triathlon swimmers have come out of it) has disbanded. It's been a central--the central--part of his life for 30 years. (Horrific mismanagement over the last few years, so no good reason). Due to his disability, he has no easy access to any other squad's training times or facilities.

My home country has gone to hell in a handbasket. More has happened than I can quickly write, but other than the fact that the state keeps trying to kill off my friends who are unprecedented national servants, and imprisoning 100% innocent friends on pretenses so false the whole country and world know it, my sister's and other relatives' personal safety has come under direct risk as well. I genuinely might not survive another bout of dengue or multidrug-resistant typhoid.

Given that my dad was a founding father of the country and many of its great institutions (and my mom some too!), and that I'd planned (and Kingsley too, happily at the time) to spend the rest of my life living in, loving and serving it ... this is very difficult for me.

So we're regrouping. My sister Tina and I will be buying a house in Germany this summer and slowly moving to spend more time abroad (with Perth as an interim base since it's fairly close to Jakarta).

Yanti, you're definitely deserving of some peace, and I hope you find it in Germany.

Yes, agreed Yanti. Any idea if there are some swimming options for Kingsley in Germany?

PEAS! I love peas. Next up: whirled peas.

Kingsley will have very good options in Germany. They take sports and disabled people v seriously over there. They're Germans, they take everything seriously. Until you get to know 'em, then family reunions end up with everyone naked in a pond under moonlight.

I bet if your fam and my German fam had a gathering, it would be an apocalypse ending in whirled peas.

No kidding, huh?

And speaking of, if Seattle explodes it's because all of my family is in town this weekend for my cousin's memorial. It will be so nice to spend some time with everyone.

Just like peas in a pod.  I'm visualizing whirled peas now.  Hate peas, but whirled peas would be nice.

Note:  Do not confuse pea pods and manatee pods.  While manatees pee and hang out in a pod, we're (generally) not green and only fluffy, not round.  On the other hand, we're a vine bunch.

Okay, I'll stop now.  Had an extra cup of coffee this morning and it's clearly having an adverse effect on my sense of humor!!

And that's why I DON"T ride a bike to work! There is a MUP system right by it there that has more than 100 miles of pathway. It might be several hundred if they've made the few connections to some others in the northern part of the state. I might not make it in for the day, or the week!

Glad you're having fun with it!  I love how fearless you are and how you can turn everything into something fun, even riding to work.  Bet your ride home starts getting longer too.  DH sometimes stretches his rides home from work longer to decompress from a hard day.  Having the bike right there without taking any extra effort definitely makes it easier to take advantage of the time and opportunity.

Now you just need to get it out on the trails.  Next thing you know, you'll be doing some ridiculous race like the Tour Divide!

High school soccer season is winding down now.   I haven't trained specifically for triathlon as working 3 or 4 days a week doing games wears me out and I have to rest when I can.  57 and fit ain't quite the same as 27 and fit.     Refractory period is longer at this age.   So I will get out on the bike tomorrow and just see how much bike fitness I have lost.    The Alabama Century Rides for the year have begun.    I want to do one next week in Montgomery.   I would like to do the century ride.   The land down in that part of the state is much flatter than where I live.  This century ride only has about 2000 ft of climb over the hundred miles.   Most of the century rides in my area have climbs of between 4000 and  5000 ft. One has 12000 ft of climb.      I'm not ready for that, I know.

Need to get back into the pool.     I don't much worry about that.   In truth it only takes a few sessions to get my form back and then once or twice a week is all that I need.  The few times I have been in the pool in the last couple of months I have been training to do free diving.    So I has been concentrating on breath holding and underwater swimming     Like I really need to take up another sport.

Refereeing soccer requires mostly sprint running.    I don't want to think what I have lost in slow twitch running.    I will deal with that later.

Hang in there, everyone.     Love you, my Palawan.  In a most pure and honorable manner, of course....

Hee hee snicker snicker. I love you too, probably not so purely, I'm not very good at that! But I am excellent at the loving part. Or so I'm told.

It always tugs at my heartstrings when you call me Palawan. That was a great adventure.

Had a fun ride this morning out at CG Mtn. Pushed it on some sections just because I felt comfortable and "speedy"  I don't usually stop in the middle of segments, but the East Butte trail made me happy today... and I was willing to give up the time.

Now and then it's good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy, even if it's the middle of a Strava segment.

Pretty sweet vista.

I hope everyone had a fun weekend and for those of you who raced I hope it went well.

Unfortunately my weekend is over and so is my week off, so back to work today and flying to the East Coast for a meeting tomorrow (and maybe a little bit of shopping if I can squeeze it in).

Quick question, the last couple of times I have run I have worn a couple of tech Tshirts that I have instead of my normal cotton ones. I have found that I get a great deal hotter in tech shirts than in cotton, and I sweat a lot more. Is this normal or not?

What's the tech shirt meant for? Is it a running shirt? Some of the older ones I have are more general use tech shirts. They're notably thicker than the running ones I have now. They may have been a little better for heat management, but the difference was more in evaporating sweat. Took a lot more to soak them as they would pass it through better whereas the cotton would tend to hold it. Also, what about the cotton shirts? Guys may not have to deal with it as much, but the women's stuff over here can be super thin.

The tech shirts both come from running races that I have done, so I would say made from a cheaper fabric, they are a bit thicker than the tech running singlets that I have. The cotton shirts are much thinner but yes they hold the sweat a lot more, which I think also makes them cooler.

Just saying happy Monday. I am finally back to some level of working out. The last few months have been more about 70-80 hour work weeks and very little working out.

Sometimes I dislike my industry and how lean we run. Weather is finally warming up. I wish I could have gotten out on my tri bike yesterday. Sadly it was pretty windy by the time I was free.

Instead early on, I was on my mountain bike with baby seat on back riding around with my 18 month old daughter who kept shoving on me saying go daddy go. I might have to refabricate this bracket so I can attach it to the tri bike. How aero do you think that would be?

Tri bike is now off the trainer and hoping to get on it tonight outside. I hope everyone has been awesome. I have some hard work ahead of me to do a sprint triathlon in 2 months. After pretty much not working out for two months.

Had a good run at the Kettering College 5K! Managed a 21:58 that got me 11th OA and 3rd AG. Won a nifty medal, hat, water bottle, and a gift card from a local running store.

This was the baseline 5K for the year, and I was targeting a 22:30.  My mileage is only up to about 10 mi/wk right now, so I'm feeling hopeful about my upside this year.

Had a lot of fun! Paced myself pretty well and had an awesome sprint at the end that got me a couple more positions.

Dobie and her giant stick on the flooded river trail.  The thing was 5-6 feet long.  Sorry the pic isn't the best, but my phone was full and EFP took this one.  I wish he would've gotten another pic later when she was holding it more toward the middle and actually had the whole thing up in the air.  Crazy little dog!  She wanted to play longer but we said no since the water is still quite cold.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
