Fred D - 2012-11-03 4:18 PM Two things. Watched my oldest daughter at swim team today. She swam 1:32 for 100 and 1:38 for 100 IM. Won her heats and was likely top 10 overall in the meet, which has some of the best swimmers in the PA, MD, VA area. She is a rising star, very proud! Secondly, was impressed with Starkiwicz? Win at IMFL. 49' swim with a 4:04 bike. Gutsy win from the front of the race. Daughter accomplishments are much more impressive to me though.

That's terrific, Fred. Congrats to your daughter.

So yesterday when I went to go bike in the real actual outdoors I took off the wheel I use on the trainer (I steal Tina's, is that bad?) and noticed a huge line all the way around the tire, like something was on the the trainer and was rubbing on the tire.  I was wondering why so much rubber was coming off the tire.  I took a look at the trainer and at the tire and I can't find anything that would have caused it.  I cleaned off the roller on the trainer anyways.  Hopefully that is the end of that issue.

Checking in with the extra hour this weekend before heading to church, and saw the top 10 M40-44 finishers at IM Florida all went sub-9:30. Wow.Conversely, I did not train at all this weekend. I was at the soccer field all day yesterday with one of my daughters whose team played in three games. Afterwards, glued to the tv and ipad watching college football and geting updates on IMFL. Back at it tomorrow.

I have what should be a simple question for the wrenches.

My P3 has a bad habit of dropping the chain when I shift from the big ring to the small ring.  If I'm careful about it and push the shifter forward slowly it generally doesn't do it but a quick throw when on a steepish hill will do it if I'm not paying attention.  What's the easiest way to adjust this?

Not sure if I am up for a weigh loss challenge during the holiday season...I am weak. But, I'd be up for a bike or run training challenge! Proud of you guys for the commitment and accountability. I will be pulling for you all.

bdesotell - 2012-11-04 4:59 AM Checking in with the extra hour this weekend

It is funny, I do not change time but everyone else changing time drastically affects me.  My main customer is in Oregon so I get an extra hour in the morning if I need it.  Great for those 8AM meetings.  Sucks for the 4PM meetings though.  And my other customer is in the Eastern time zone and so 2 hours is better then 3 in time separation.  Not very fond of their early morning meetings let me tell you...

They're next to the flux capacitor!!...sorry, couldn't resist. This only shows my total wrenching inexperience. I didn't even know the FD had delimiter screws. Sad. I'm just glad to learn a little more each day about how my bike actually works.

Well I had the stomach flu yesterday so that helped tip the scales down 3 pounds.  I have not eaten anything for 1.5 days.  I was really miserable yesterday and feeling better today but will probably hold off on workouts until tomorrow morning.

I am around 168-169 (pre-sickness) and would like to get down to 158-160 by March so I am in for the challenge.

That is pretty impressive by Starky to bike 4:04 and hold on for the win still running 3:06.  That dude can bike!

I went to the provincial triathlon federation awards ceremony last night. A few things

They held an auction for Tremblant 70.3 and IMMT spots, both events are sold out. They got $1000 for the 70.3 and $1400 for the full. People were going nuts on the 70.3 $1000? That is nuts.

There was a 10 minute presentation by 3 members, relatively well known, that were hit by cars this summer. All 3 in full braces with 6+ months of rehabilitation, unable to work.....Very disturbing. between the 3 of them I don't think there was a bone not broken.

My outdoor season is over. I have only been on the trainer for the last 2 weeks. I rode the first 1h15 of IMMT this morning on the computrainer. It was tough.

1. Keep the diet soda out.  Been about 2.5 weeks so far

Hi Jason, I am curious.

While I don't equate diet soda with healthy eating habits, I don't associate it to weight gain/loss either.  Do you ?

Curious on the diet soda thing too.  I did read something awhile back about it triggering something in the brain, but I just wanted to stop drinking it because of the chemicals.  I go to seltzer.

Fred, that great.  My girls aren't old enough yet, but I can only imagine.  My 4 year old has had a few swim lessons, karate lessons, gymnastics, dance...Love watching her, but she's not competing in anything.  It's just fun to watch.

On another note, I bundled up and got a nice outdoor ride in that felt good.  Had the winter gear on and it was actually enjoyable.  Good news is after breakfast and my ride I only weighed 186, so I think I'll change my goal to 182 since I lost 5lbs of bloat overnight.

SWEET! Swim training takes some real discipline and gutting out a good race time SEEMS like it's over quickly but that's a minute and half of hell, what a great gal.

Awesome Andrew--really nice for him to do well after his debacle in Abu Dhabi.

So after my trainer ride this morning I went for the scariest hike ever.  I live smack dab in the middle of the national forest and it is hunting season.  There are hunters everywhere here.  So we picked a trail and went for a hike but a little ways into it we started to hear the hunting dogs and it kind of seemed like they were following us.  We kept going but then we were about to hit a part of the trail that would have brought us deeper into the brush and we both decided that we were just too uncomfortable.  This pretty much leaves us with no place to hike until the season is done.  It would be quite the drive to get to a place out of the national forest.  I guess this means no trail running either really.

No, I don't know what to check!    I know what they are but what should I look for?  Or is it a trial and error type of thing?

While everyone talks about the Lac Superieur section of IMMT, the rest of the course is no walk in the park either!  The Montee Ryan section has some tough hills and the Conception hill is a real grinder too!

and you are right, $1000 for the 70.3 is nuts!

Sally (or anyone else if they have one), what do you think of your Forerunner 10?  I saw a post where you were having trouble uploading to BT - did that get sorted out?  We are thinking about it as a replacement for my wife's dying 305.  Only need run functionality as she has a 500 for the bike and she doesn't swim.

Got in a slow 2 hour ride this morning.  It was -2C when i left the house, and like Jason I was bundled up (which is 2 layers for me).  I was fine though, the weather really wasn't bad.  The fingers and toes did get a bit cold on the way back when my training partner was running out of gas.  Seems that happens when my HR is below 150 and it's cold.
