Regular 117 The Ottawa Valley, ON | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread Yeah, the room (Jr Suites) I booked is $189.00/night but I'm sure the other rooms are cheaper. Just give Deerhurst a call and check with them though. You do have to book a 2 night minimum but its worth it to stay there. The transition is right outside the building and this way you don't have to take the bus for transportation on Race morning. Edited by Smitty1984 2011-04-09 11:13 AM |

When I called Deerhurst last year there was a 3 night min stay for that weekend. Is this the case this year?. My budget left me with a nice room at the Holliday Inn ($150). It's only 7 min away from the DH parking lot which is ok if you don't forget your goggles!!! |

I've done the race twice, both times the web said 3 nights minimum but calling directly I booked 2 nights no questions asked. Try to get a room in the main building, ground floor. |

Veteran 277 The Nation's Frosty Capital | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread Did the long and short course about 9 times between the two and have stayed in Bracebridge, for a fraction of the cost and a twenty minute drive to the pick up zone. Two of my1/2 Ironman races last year involved shuttles that were mandatory and took 2 hours to complete. Ironman Muskoka is so well organized that we arrived from Bracebridege and immediately caught a shuttle from the airport parking lot and were at the site before 6 am. In the early season short course, we easily found good parking at 6 am. Love these two races. Cheers. Love the Muskoka Bike Course. ouucchhh! But Yaaaa. |

3 | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread Hey guys, Look forward to seeing you all at the race this year. It promises to be bigger and better this year than even last year. Water is still wet and the hills aren't any flatter. Come on up and train here all summer long! If you have friends that want to try the 70.3, but don't want to do the full thing, then tell them to put in a relay team! See if the three of them can beat you! Not a chance! Lots of room at the June 25 sprint and June 26 long course as well. Check out our new website that is going to be launched June 24th, 2011 which will have favorite areas to swim, bike, and run, as well as tips for where to stay and have fun. Drop the kids off at one of our camps and have a week of guilt free training! www.trimuskoka.com Rich Chair, TriMuskoka |

I'll be there this year! First ever HIM, looking forward to it, but I hear the hills are killer. Can't wait to do a few training rides out there! |

Master 4119 Toronto | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread So, i went up for my first ride on the course this year - did it twice last year + the race - this past weekend and not to scare anyone because this has never happened before but I saw a bear run across the road when we were on the 117!! It was pretty far ahead of us and seemed to be gone when we passed So, folks who are heading up just keep your eyes peeled! We hadn't seen anything like this before and I don't think it calls for carrying bear spray or anything. More just reporting it as a 'wow, never have seen that before!' kind of thing. Good luck to those going to success camp next weekend (i'll be cottaging and riding again as well) |

Elite 3779 Ontario | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread Right - I'll be watching for bears on Thursday. This will be my first time back on the course since 2009, and I'm really curious to see how I find those last 30km again. Only real difference for me this time is that I have a powermeter, so hopefully this ride will be a good learning experience. |

I might try to get up there and start at around 7am No me, but I'll be going to Algonquin Park on the second weekend of August (12-14) to do a mini training camp, if anyone wants to join me. I will be doing a whole bunch of OWS, biking the course once, and probably another ride in Algonquin, and a couple of runs. So far, it's just me. Would love company! |

Veteran 1900 Southampton, Ontario | Subject: RE: MUSKOKA 70.3 - Official Ontario Thread The ride went well other than nearly being hit by a silver toyota FJ pulling a jet boat on 35. He did it on purpose as well, no traffic in the opposing direction and he was laying on his horn the whole time. I was climbing and pretty much on the white line so had no room to move over any further. As the truck past with in inches I was kind of sucked towards the gap between the truck and boat. An aerodynamic effect I suppose. I was very angry but today feel more sad that his life must truly suck that a cyclist on an otherwise empty road can incite that amount of rage. Be careful out there. |

That's really scary! I don't understand why people can't just share the road... Especially with a trailer, that's SUPER dangerous! Glad you're ok, Dave. Makes me want a training partner for when I do the course in a couple of weeks... Weekend of Aug. 13, if anyone wants to join. I'll be camping in Algonquin, and driving to Huntsville to probably swim and bike. I did a 85k ride this weekend that was probably a bit hillier than the course, but I would NOT have been able to run a HM afterwards. Definitely glad I did that, as it kinda humbled me and made me realize what I'm up against. |

Definitely glad I did that, as it kinda humbled me and made me realize what I'm up against. Humbled - great word, cause that's how I felt after riding the course on Thursday. I forgot just how hard the last 30km really is (even though I've written about it), and apart from my powermeter telling me the power was dropping off, the legs were just falling apart. I just wanted to get off the bike and be done with it. The heat probably didn't help, but this was a great wakeup call and with 8 weeks to go hopefully I can make some changes. The brick afterwards was not a pretty site... |

Neil...curious as to what cassette your are running on the back end...I am heading up in a week or so to do some riding and was thinking about switching out my 12-25 to a 12-27....do this hills warrant such a change? |
