Question to the group

If you had the choice to race

- World AG Olympic distance on the London Olympic course

or

- Vegas 70.3 WC

Which would you choose and why?  An acquaintance may have this decision to make.

To me, the decision would come down to whether or not I wanted to go to a destination race for a unique experience (London) or go test myself against a tough field at a tough course (and get my arse kicked...    .  I've been to Vegas several times to it doesn't pass the destination criteria for me.

Good points. If it was me I would get my butt kicked at both.

I did Vegas70.3 WC  last year and the course/destination (Lake Las Vegas) is actually nice. We spent a whole 2 hours on the "strip". The rest of the time was spent at LLV, Grand Canyon, Hoover dam....

I have been to London and while it's nice, it's not my favorite European city.

I wasn't thinking of destination but rather prestige of events. Like having to choose between the Olympics and Kona....Orlympics and TDF......At a smaller scale.

London has the mystic of being where they ran the Olympics

But you are right, destination may be part of it. I didn't think of it because I have been to both and neither are on my todo list.

I think my opinion would be slightly biased as I'm only an hour away from London, so if cost wasn't an issue, it'd be Vegas for me purely because I've never been and it would make a good holiday too

From a tri perspective not a destination perspective, which is cooler ?

Distance : Oly vs HIM

Who will be there : Crowie/Ralaert vs Brownlees & Co.....

Course : Desert (which is gorgeous) vs Whizzing by Buckingham palace.

Which is more prestigious ?

Yeah this group has some great knowledge for sure. I tried a really interesting thing in the pool based on a tip from an ST video on YouTube. Was definitely swimming faster with it. Involved contracting the glutes and hamstrings more to bring the center of buoyancy more forward. The video is pretty goofy, but seems like a good tip.

Here is the link, don't laugh too much at the goofiness....

That's a pretty good video. Since I have only a sprint race left at the end of the month, I think I know what I'll be practicing in the pool for the next couple of weeks (and probably most of the winter break!)

For me, Vegas is more prestigious.  I say that based on what I perceive the level of difficulty in qualifying to be.  I know people that have qualified for worlds that I have beaten on more than one occasion.  I don't know anyone that has qualified for Vegas that is anywhere near my speed.

Well, you said you did 70.3 WC last year - go to the other. The pro field will be a lot of the same guys but getting to toe to the line with the olympic champions is pretty darn cool.  At least to tri geeks like us!

Do you have a spot for an extra cage now, or just going with the PD bottle up front?

X2 - I put more stock in a spot for the WC's than some of the other AG championships.  Not to take away from those other races as there are a lot of fast folks, but ability to get in "seems" a little easier sometimes.  But what do I know, sometimes the WC spots roll way down as well.

it's not  for me. I don't have the problem of having to choose :-)

Buddy of mine. I am biased because I did Vegas. I would probably choose London but if I had been to neither, I don't know what I would do.

I find the concept of being on a country team pretty cool.

I really think WTC has done a job on us with it's branding.

Just the PD up front. I have a contingency if the PD were to fail. I'll explain and post a pic when I get home in a bit.

How do you refill ? Do you grab a bottle, fill and toss before the end of the aid station ?

I grab a bottle, put it in my holder, eventually pour it in the front, put the empty back in the holder, toss it when I get to the next aid station, repeat over....

Very cool indeed! And how yummy. That could keep me busy for a while.

Truly awful weather, you can really see it in the pic.

I finally looked at the video.  That is more or less what I think about and the muscles I focus on when I do drills with the @%^%ing band around my ankles.

Right before IMMT I noticed that my rear brake was barely re-opening after use and would occasionally rub against the wheel.  It wasn't a stuck cable as I could release it and the brake calipers still didn't open well.  I took it to the bike techs  at the race site and they were able to get it working well enough to race with but still not great.  A couple of the guys there said that the Cervelo brakes weren't very good and the springs all eventually went bad.

So, long story short, can anyone make a recommendation on replacement brakes?  I know very little about them.  Other than the Omega center pull ones look cool!
