Couple of things. When I have my crank at 6 o'clock, unclipped, and I put my heel on the pedal, my leg is almost straight. Maybe a slight bend at the knee. If you have a good bend, that's a sign it's too low When you ride, if your hips are rocking, it's too high. Best is to get a video direct from the side.

Thanks.  Away for the weekend but will try those and see when I get back.

Can you export them with the free version of TP ? Do you keep your runs in GC ? I find GC is weak for running analysis.

Yes, I just tried and export and it worked fine.   As for GC it's bike files only - partly for the reason you mentioned and also because there doesn't seem to be an easy way to get a Forerunner 305 file into it.  Even if there was I doubt I would do it.

Not a silly question. The problem with Garmin Connect is it's hard to get them out in bulk to load into another program. What kind of head unit do you use to record your sessions ?

The Quarq doesn't require the use of a specific head unit, so I'm just using my 910xt.  I'm not even sure how to export them to anywhere other than Garmin Connect.  Maybe if I read the Training Peaks or Golden Cheetah manuals / info, I'd know the answer to this!

Did I read correctly (later in the thread) that Golden Cheetah won't track run TSS?  I think I'd like to start using the PMC and would like to do what I can to keep track of both run and bike.  I believe TP does both, right?  Anyone track swim TSS as well?

Hah, this is bad....all these numbers and data to collect and analyze really makes me excited.  Freaking engineer....

For the 910xt, they get sent up to Garmin Connect automatically but there is a "hidden" copy on your drive.
It's in "C:\users\username\appdata\Roaming\garmin\devices\devicename\history"

replace username and devicename with your specifics. There may be an easier way to get there. I created a link or favorite

This is correct. TP, WKO and Raceday Appollo can do run PMC charts.

Yes, but it's not accurate and a bit of pain. The minute you start doing other strokes, drills,, kicking, it doesn't work well.

Marc - looks like I can get all my files from Garmin Connect - not just bike files. Is that an issue, or do you only want the ride files. If just the ride files, it will take a while but I can export them one by one.

With all the discussion of data and how to use/where to store/etc., quick question.

I use Strava for fun but also to track hours (good weekly graphic and it goes back in time).  GC I find to be cumbersome for any kind of analysis.  BT is OK, but I can't seem to see my weekly volume back beyond 5 weeks, it doesn't take power, I can only get monthly data two months back, etc.  TP also seems good, but has limitations (for me) in manipulating the data...

Now, I use the FREE version of them all except Strava.  So, here's the question:

Is it worth (I'm asking for opinions here, and so absolve anyone of the giving of advice - not that it has slowed this group in the past, mind you!) upgrading either TP or BT, and I'm thinking more about TP (seems like it's by far the most popular amongst folks)?

Does the functionality increase considerably?  I like power, being able to easily see the week and month at a glance - and to do so across previous weeks/months, looking at all three sports (swing and a huge miss for Strava here), etc.

Appreciate thoughts!

Best,

Matt

Upgrading your BT membership won't give you anything extra from an analysis POV as far as I know.  It's more about getting rid of most ads and access to more detailed training plans.  A bunch more graphs too.

BTW, you can get your power data into BT.  You have to enter your FTP in Settings -> Training Log settings -> General log settings.  Once you do that it will give you AP, NP, max power, Score and IF for anything you upload after that.  Its not terribly useful though and even the graph for intervals / splits doesn't give any power data.

You can also get data farther back than 2 months.  When you are in your training log, click the "My training calendar" at the top.  That will switch to a month view and it will give weekly totals for each week and a month one at the bottom.  You can then go back to any month you want.

Had a great long run today.  Before heading out I felt like #$%^ and wasn't in the mood for it at all - I was seriously considering a nap instead.  I ran on a trail and my wife rode her hybrid with me for the ride (I love it when she does that - seriously).  So as I said, I felt like #$^ starting out but 3 KMs into the run I was ticking off the kms at about 15s/km faster than usual and felt awesome.  Kept the pace the whole way and felt like a million bucks.

Go figure.

Go Chris!  (anyone else racing?)

You can set up some nice dashboards with TP. They will be releasing a new version soon and it's even slicker. Online, it's probably the best.
I have been using WKO recently and it's pretty good.

If you have enough data, I can get you a 2 week Premium Trial on TP. Use it when you get enough data to be worth while
PM me for a code. Same applies to other members of this group.

Yup, I had one a couple of weeks ago.  Couldn't find a thing wrong with it.

Fill up a bucket with water, inflate the punctured tube and dunk it.  Even the smallest holes will produce bubbles.  I had one a few weeks ago too.  So small that I could actually pump it up and ride with it for 2 hours and it would be fine...but the next day it would be completely flat.  Once I found the hole, I matched it up to the tire and found an extremely small piece of a staple stuck in my tire.  Maybe 2 mm long, and I needed tweezers and about 3 minutes to get it out.  No way I would have found it if I didn't know where to look.

Someone wrote this script and it works well to export everything. The only problem is you can't identify what one file is from another. Took me abut 35min to get all the files extracted (and looked like it crashed once) but it seems that happens from time to time.

http://www.sideburn.org/garmin/

Sent you a PM with the files - put them in Google Drive, hope that's ok.

Finally got the Hokas yesterday, and ran 8km in them today - pushing a little (well not so little) 4 year old in a jogger. I need more runs, and longer ones, but my initial impression was really positive. I don't know that my calves have felt that good during/after a run in a long time. I kept waiting for them to tighten up, but it didn't happen. Switch was right - they feel very cushioned, and that's clearly the point, but that "different" feel didn't bother me at all. I hadn't actually seen these in person, and ordered them strictly based on everything I had read. Even though I had seen pics online, these truly are the goofiest looking shoes I've seen. I'm waiting for the laughter next week at the LRS run. But as long as they do what I hope, I'm perfectly happy to wear some odd looking shoes.

My husband raced an Oly (International) distance race today.  Since I had decided to take some time off before the race, I signed up to volunteer at one of the run aid station.  I had such a GREAT time!  I'm actually pretty sure that the only desire I have to do a full IM distance race is to volunteer at it, not race it!

Being able to give back was a really fun experience.  If you haven't volunteered before and you get the opportunity, I highly recommend it.

BTW, hubby landed 2nd on the podium in his AG  Very proud of him!

Well, I'm sitting on the side of the road waiting for a pick up because I broke my chain. tab had to ride back to the house first - good thing we were only 20 mins into the ride. On a positive note I got an alert that Chris was moving on the bike!
