All kinds. Some are purely dreams (i.e., totally unrealistic) and others I simply don't know. The first time I went <1:30 in a HM I couldn't believe it. Other times I missed what seemed like a very sensible goal. So I've learned not to place too much stock in these goals, but it's fun to have them and I find it motivating while training. Right now I seem to be fixated on the idea of going <1:20 in a half marathon. I have no idea whether that's feasible. I did 1:25 last year, but I'm getting no younger... I would also dearly like to go <4:30 in one of our local HIMs, but as that race is a long long ways off, that particular dream is purely theoretical. (Let's not mention that I haven't swum since I can't remember when and haven't biked since spring.)

Haha...details, details;)

Those are really awesome dreams :

A 1:25 last year, screams <1:20 this year--age shmage!

That is a damn fast HIM time.  Much props to anyone who puts that on the dream board.  Awesome!

The run was tough, so the shoes don't fix that!  I ran with Kim (yesterday, too - love it when our training synchs enough to do that) and along the coast then through some farmland/paddocks, so the miles just ticked by…  But my legs really do feel much better AFTER than previous "long" runs in the 12-14 range in other shoes.  Not as beat up.  Still probably race HM and down in Newtons, but I'm even wavering on the HM distance (have one in a couple weeks and am thinking of wearing the Hokas).

Goofy looking, yes.  But, I'm sitting here in neon green compression knee socks, so I'm clearly on board with goofy.

Matt

ETA - just saw the above post after hitting submit.  Go Chris!  (and nice workout Arend)

Was there a specific reason for buying the Hokas - ie. any issues you were suffering from? One thing I was unsure of, is there a benefit or reason to continue running in shoes other than the Hokas?

I've been out of the loop - but trying to catch up with reading through as many pages as possible, though I admit to skimming a lot.

Had my last race of the season, a Sprint, on Sunday. I kind of figured in advance that this race was not going to be my best outing since training has been sporadic lately - especially the bike. I ended up riding better than expected, but still slower than last year, but that came after a craptastic swim that killed the day. The run turned into a survival effort near the end. Race report to follow soon.

What I really learned from this day - and what I already knew - is that to be faster, I'm simply going to have to reduce my time on the bike. My swim is not great, and although I continue to work at it, I've accepted the fact that I may not see any real speed improvements over where I am today. But the bike, I think this is still an area I can get faster.

Anyone got suggestions on a 9 month plan to get me ready for next season?

So here's a start. Bottom line, you need to work more :-)

Here is your PMC for the last 2 years

Bottom line, you have worked less this year than last

The blue line is your fitness. If you look at last summer, you peaked July 25th with a CTL of 46 TSS/day.
This year, you peaked May 25th at 37 TSS/day and you have gradually been dropping during summer
You didn't do much biking after 2 of your races and your fitness dropped even more. Remember that whole thing about consistency ?

If you look at the 3 lines at the top, they are the best 30', 1h and 2h work you've done. I picked top 8 of all time.
Notice how how best efforts were when you were at your best fitness ?

But even when you were at your peak, you're not working "that hard". I am currently sitting at 65 TSS/day, although that is probably more than you need to do to see some improvement.

I looked at the balance of time in various zones, you do spend a good distribution.

You did a good load Mid Feb to mid May but then you backed off.

You do a lot of 4 rides / 4 hours per week. I would add another 15minutes to each of those, with quality work in there.
Also depending on if you will do long course/short course you may want to do things a bit differently. If long course, you don't do long enough rides.

This is just a quick impression to stir some debate/discussion

That is bike only
On the run, he peeked early July (32 TSS/d), nice ramp up in CTL but backed off in July.

Maybe low in the speed, some more Z4 would be good since he is racing short course.
Not many long runs.

I'll try to get a snapshot of my PCM later.  But I think this is something we should all be paying attention to if we're using power.  I found that blue line is pretty darn accurate as far as telling you exactly where you are given what you've put in.

The off-season is the best time to fine tune your skills and prepare yourself for the next season. It is also time for you to gain some strength and get a little rest after a long season of training.

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
