I'll be in Maui last week in July and am seriously considering a Haleakala ride.  Just have to speak to the wife first...

So, I didn't really have plans for an IM in 2013.....  but damn if it's hard not getting swept up in the IM Lake Tahoe hysteria.....   It would still be a long drive from home (8 hours....) but there's a family place in Mammoth (3 hours from tahoe) I could stop in at and acclimate a couple days......

darn you WTC

hahaha - it's sooooo tempting isn't it??  Well, maybe they'll do like they did for Tremblant and in a month or two announce a 70.3.

I would tell you to go for it!!! But i do know it's a big commitment.  And, you know staying in both Mammoth Lakes and Tahoe just sounds so rough ... since we already feel sorry for the rough weather you experience in Cali .... hahahaha.

THought about it more today, and realized while I'd like to do another IM, I don't really feel like training for one     So I'm going to pass for now

Stacy promised me a Corvette for my 50th.  I settled for a new bike.

Scott Foil 40 w/105 or a.k.a. Shimano yester-years Dura Ace so they say.

The bike weights in at 18.6 lbs as pictured.  That is 1.2 lbs heaver than my Scott CR1.  The ride is much smoother to me.

I had my second race of the season.  5th OA and 1St AG not bad for my ankle bothering me.

Well the Patriot Half Iron has come and gone, swim went well in choppy water 37m, had the 2nd fastest bike split in the field @ 24.4 mph 2h18m including elite men and had some serious IT band issues on the run that had me running in mind numbing pain from mile 3 2h14m.

5h15m total 119/611 overall 22/93 ag m40-44. I am now going to enjoy my retirement from long course triathlon.

Great job Rudy!  Fast bike split.

My IT band issues happen on the bike but go away on the run.

Congratulations James & Rudy - great job this weekend!

James:  Those are some solid splits all the way around.  Sub 6's off the bike?  Nice job!  I really like that roadie too!

Rudy:  The race report is a good read and really like your thoughts about the bike.  They are the opposite of what was going through my head in my last race LOL!  I seriously enjoyed reading it!  Amazing bike split and have fun bike racing this summer!

I am doing a 15K run race this weekend...a great local race.  Hoping for sub 60 but we will see.  I am not planning to taper for it just a hard training run.

Have a good week of training everyone.

James - happy birthday - what a great present too! I know black stealth is all the rage right now, but I just do not think there is anything more lovely than a white bike. A real to keep clean (I know from my own experience) but well worth the effort.

Fantasic as always race results - it is really no surprise. It is really great that you have been able to climb back on top. Not to sound TOO hokey, but it is folks like you that remind me that this is a long game and that patience and perseverance pays off. Congrats!

Hey - nice new ride James - better than a 'vette for keeping you in good shape!! hahaha - and congrats on the race results

Rudy - i'll have to block off some time to read your race report

Yesterday I raced my first-ever olympic distance.  I am overall happy with the outcome but I did not come anywhere near my AG. But i did what i set out to do.

I got so nervous right before the swim that I very nearly turned around on the way out to the first bouy.  Had a good HTFU talk with myself and got it done but probably not near anywhere what i am capable of.  Not much to be done other than to drag myself to a lake every weekend and get my confidence up. It's annoying that this panic thing keeps coming up but I have to remember where I came from.  Four years ago I didn't swim - at all.  I started taking adult swim lessons in 2008.

I had a great bike for me - i pushed the pace and felt really good.  I actually pushed it enough that it was hard to get comfortable running but I still had a good run considering that i've been training for IM effort not olympic.

James - very sweet bike, and awesome race result.  Seems like the race season has started out really well for you so far.

Rudy - hats off to you.  I would never race like that, but I admire you for going for it on the bike.  Because I would/could never do that I admire it a little bit more.

Jen - did you race Guelph this weekend?  Gald you managed to get through the swim and race strong on the bike and run.

I did.  The weather actually held out. I think they were really worried about the possibility of lightning before the race.  I don't think as many raced the olympic as have in the past but it was a good field.  Lots of fasties!

Fred D - 2012-06-18 12:16 PM Btw BT has apparently banned BryanCD from posting in the forums henceforth. I feel as though BT has the right to do whatever they want as its their privately owned site, but definitely a loss IME as he contributed a ton and helped me a lot. One of bryans best points for me was to live off the course nutrition (not that I'm really racing this year), but riding the longer rides at higher effort was always a good lesson for me as well. Maybe others could chime in on what they gleaned from him?

Really, a permanent ban?  That's a little harsh.  Guess e poked the one too many times, it seems.  Not sure if you saw the thread, but he basically called out all the moderators in a specific thread he started.

That's too bad, I think he was a great contributor.  Although I cannot cite to any specific advice, he was there for me when I had my IMAZ DNF, which meant a lot.

I'll put it here because it will probably be deleted....  but my post today

But I would in the most polite way possible ask the mods to reconsider the action against bryancd.  This thread is not for BT bashing, or mod bashing - I was a mod once, it's not an easy job - so please don't do that (assuming the thread survives).  I know bryan likes to poke the bear now and then (not The Bear), and he can be a bit ...   blunt.. in his delivery, but I think his signal to noise ratio is extremely high, and that he is an invaluable contributor to the board and BT community, and it would be a great loss to lose such a resource.

I've never thought to write a thread like this, but I think it's warranted in this case.

Just my .02

I dunno, it's still there, longer than I thought    If people keep it civil, it mght be a good discussion of board policies.  Like I said, I've moderated here, so I've seen the backstage area, the threads in purgatory, and it's not easy.  A little transparency might help people understand why the mods do what they do sometimes.  We'll see I guess.
