It is Oh-Dark-Stupid here on the West Coast (4:15am) and I am up to watch the Gold Medal Hockey Game.  The question is: is it a super late night, and I drink beer, or is it a super early morning, and I drink coffee?  Decisions, decisions.

Oh, and condolences to Team USA.

I am not sure why, but I am kind of happy Russia managed to get top spot in the medal standings.

But I would bet Putin would trade that top spot for hockey gold.

Well I survived my trek through the Everglades.  Really it was touch and go for a while.  Here is the race report.  http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=511415&posts=1&page=1

I will give you a preview - I was 4th overall female and 1st Female Master (this just means I am officially old )

Actually no. It is my original Trek 1200 Aluminum that I started on. It has been repurposed.

Hi Manatees....sorry I have been a bad Manatee lately! I know it's been quite a while since I have posted. I skimmed through the last 15 pages or so that I've missed.

First just want to say hugs to TJ, Kate and Judi - so sorry to hear about everything you all are going through with your families.

Stacey - NSNG has been somewhat difficult for me, so I would by lying if I said it's an easy transition. It's definitely better for you and healthier for you so I try to think about that when I have a craving for something sugary. Giving up wheat has been no big deal for me, it's the processed sugars that's been rough. I love sweets. So I haven't completely given them up yet, just eating a lot less than I was before. A typical day of eating for my husband and I is something along these lines: breakfast - eggs and bacon (or sausage links) or sometimes we have a fruit smoothie with frozen berries and heavy whipping cream, lunch - spinach salad with high fat dressing and berries (strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are my favorites) dinner - some cut of meat (beef, pork or chicken) with steamed veggies in butter. So we are probably eating anywhere from 20-50 g of carbs a day. I still drink alcohol (wine and beer) which have both sugar and grains, but I am just not ready to give that up yet. So, it has been a slow transition for me. But I am convinced it's the way to go and the right way to be eating. I have lost just over 10 lbs since the first of the year and lots of body fat is gone. I can definitely see my shape changing. So I am happy with it so far! If you have any specific questions, please let me know.

Weather is finally looking a little better in Indiana...hubby and I were able to get out on the road yesterday with our bikes because the temp hit 50! Woo hoo! And man I will tell you what, riding on my bike vs riding on a stationary bike at the gym (what I've been doing all winter) is sooooo different. I could go forever at the gym and not feel tired, but yesterday I thought I would die after 10 miles. My arms were killing me from holding my weight. I don't think I sit on my bike right. I guess that just goes to show that I have a lot of work to do before my very first triathlon that is less than 2 months away!

I hope everyone who raced these past 2 weekends did well!

Ashley

Hi all!

Been largely offline the last week (family vacation with mercifully limited phone or data!), but am back.  And WOW did I miss a lot here…  From bike p0rn to racing your socks/fins off, it was quite the week to be out!

Well, suffice to say CONGRATS to the racers, heal quickly to the DL, enjoy the fixie, congrats to all of us for the Olympics (I don't care who you root for, they're just special), good luck in the new jobs and job searches - and a catch all of best wishes to whatever else I missed on returning to all these electrons flying around!

Good to be back, although I'll miss the nearly vertical "runs" of the last week and the company of green vervet monkeys (and the Better Half - I love vacation cuz we get to run together) whilst doing so, as well as the sea turtles and other critters swimming (and hard to say I'll welcome another week of polar vortex that is descending on us - this winter just won't give up!).

Matt
