Anyway, contractions started around 630 am. We arrived at the hospital by 830 and then he was born just after 1030. We spent the night in the hospital but should go home by lunch today. Yesterday I felt very woozy after the birth so we stayed.

WOOT WOOT!!

Congrats!

Quick update.

Sprained (maaaaybe separated) my AC joint (collarbone to shoulder - the little bump on top of your shoulder is now a big bump on one side) a month or so ago doing light weights (I actually think it was pathetically doing push ups).  Aging sucks, but beats the alternative.

So, definitely haven't swum in a while and still can't even hold myself in position on the bike (and I don't like sitting straight up that long - or, more accurately, my backside doesn't!).  Been just running instead, which has been nice.  Ironically, it's the sport I've been doing longest of the three, my worst of the three and my fave of the three!

Did a 10k about a week back.  PR'd at 42:2x (forgot exactly) on a hilly course, so that felt good.  Did a 5k Friday evening (local race) and was something like 5th OA.  Hit my highest HR I've seen since buying a HR monitor (driving home the radio said heat index was 104 and a record high temp, and it's a HILLY course).  Had fun racing with the oldsters in my AG - very tactical, which was a blast (22:00 or a little less - didn't hit stop on the Garmin and they don't write down your time when you finish - VERY local affair with only like 250 runners).  Thinking of a local 10k this weekend (Sunshine Run - 5k, 10k, with or without dogs - I love Austin).

The disturbing thing is that I've been having a blast running and having all this extra time!    I've gotten back into flying, been fishing with family and friends (although I'm not able to throw a fly line so well with the shoulder) and even have read a couple books.  It's amazing what the extra hours over a week provide!

That said, I'm eyeing a September Oly.

Welcome Logan!

Racers - RR or it didn't happen (said the guy who's a couple in arrears)!  I'm curious about the taps...

McMatt - ooh, that injury doesn't sound so good, I hope you can get it fixed back to normal.  But, like you said, it's been opening up some time for you to enjoy some other of your favorite past-times!

LOL when I took some time off serious training after Worlds, I just got bored.....Realized that except for triathlon (and, of course, work) there's really not much to do around here, which has to do with why I took up the sport in the first place. (Saigon's very much a business/party town with a big, rather sleazy bar scene oriented towards expat guys and young local women--not much for a single 40-something expat woman to do besides train and race!) In the US, I would spend the "extra" time with family or doing outdoor stuff like hiking and pleasure biking, but no chances here.

Anyhow, no shortage of things to do this past weekend! I was moving, so it was entirely spent packing, supervising movers. getting some repairs done, unpacking, redecorating, etc. The place is pretty much under control now but still some more to do--and back to work tomorrow. (Four-day "Labor Day" weekend here, thank goodness.) I didn't actually have to move until end of May/beginning of June, but wanted to use the long weekend to get it over with before report cards/end of term madness commences in a few weeks (six more weeks of school).

So glad that you found a new place I hope it works out well for you with your training and that the neighbours aren't too noisy for you at night.

So sorry to hear about your shoulder and man if my "bad running" was that fast I would be stoked.
I have only been running for all of this year and I have been really enjoying it too.

Well last week didn't go to plan! Got knocked off my bike as a dumb driver turned in front of me and I went over their bonnet, fractured my collarbone and something else in shoulder which may require surgery but will know more on Friday when see the doc again. Gutted as trained hard and now races don't look like they will be able to happen!

Oh no!!!  Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about your injury at the hand of a driver who wasn't paying attention as carefully as s/he should've been.  Wishing you the best, hoping you heal quickly and don't need surgery.  Keep us updated if you can and please take care.

oh no, I'm so sorry! Janyme went through a similar thing a couple of years ago, so she would be a good point of contact if you need to ask about how to deal with it!!

Sorry to hear Tom. Hope you don't need surgery and things are more simple. Shattered mine about a year and a half ago and it took some time to get better.

Matt, I’m sorry to hear about the AC joint, no one likes being uncomfortable :-(. I’m glad that it’s allowed you to focus on running (and even non-tri activities). Enjoy it!  I find that when I am on run focus, I LOVE running.  Its’ my favorite.  hen I am on try focus, I LOVE mixing it up, it is awesome. When I am on ride focus (its been awhile!), I LOVE riding with my friends all the time, it’s the best!  (Notice that I did not mention swim focus)

Karen, I’m glad that you got moved.  One move down, one to go! Which place did you end up choosing?

Tom, I am so sorry to hear about your collarbone.  What is it with Manatees and collarbones/shoulders?!

Stupid question time

Is there a way to turn off elevation when you are on the trainer?  One would think that turning off GPS would be enough for the software to know that there is no need to record elevation but, sadly, that is not the case.

I never really made the effort there. Strava had the Stationary Trainer button that took out both GPS and elevation.

What device are you using?  My Garmin 920XT has a bike indoor mode which seems to pick up the current elevation but doesn't show any gains, at least on the last few indoor bike sessions I did and looked at.

Oh Tom I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope that you heal quickly and yes pick Ben and Janyne's brains on training/recovery etc because they have both been through this very recently.

Thanks and certainly will be picking your brains on recovery that's for sure! Received in the post yesterday my race pack for the half marathon that I was supposed to be running in three weeks yesterday which was rather depressing! But as my wife says it could have been a whole lot worse!

My 520 data, when I download it, also shows elevation when I ride indoors in indoor mode with GPS off. Oddly, although I'm on the trainer and presumably the house/bike isn't going up or down, elevation appears to change in stages throughout the ride by 50-100 feet. It seems reasonable for where I am (very close to sea level) but how can it change on the trainer. Something weird there.

As for the new digs, I chose the place that had a big living room divided into a smaller living room and another room that the owner was using as a studio/office. That is my "bike studio" now. Pic on the daily workout thread of Rover (bike) set up in his new digs. All the other places I looked at either had no furniture, horrible furniture, or (in the case of the "second place" apartment), way too much furniture that the owner would/could not move (three beds with elaborate attached headboard shelving units, for starters) and I didn't need, that would have left me no room for bikes, stretching, a proper study, etc. A bit sad about the last place--the complex had a REALLY nice 25m pool. My new place has a pretty basic one that's about 17-18m. Okay for recovery but I would have to be pretty desperate to train in it. But I didn't want to spend the next few years sleeping with my bike.

I broke in the "bike studio" with a 3-hour ride on Sunday, unfortunately before I realised that if you don't close the window to the adjoining balcony/utility room, the warm air comes back through the AC outlet out there and then warms up the room you are trying to cool. Talk about dumb design!
