thanks for the warm welcome

Fred, if you do IMMT make sure you stop in Montreal for a beer (or two).

it's a beautiful venue. I did an Oly on the course two weekends ago. The lake is beautiful. The roads are nice and smooth. Lots of rolling hills and a killer 10km at the end of each loop 90k loop. We did not go on the run course, we ran elsewhere.

It's really going to be a nice event.

Fred D - 2012-06-21 8:02 AM I spoke with Bryan yesterday and we had a good talk. He sends his regards to everyone in this group as he went out of his way to say he thought this was a really great mentor group. What's on tap for today? I had a 20' run and that's all I have time for. Still on the fence about IMMT, but will see how my body handles more consistent running.

I have to say that Fred D, Bryan & Johnny K are probably the three people that I have learned the most from on this site.  Anytime I saw that they responded to a post I would always make sure to read it.  So to have all 3 of them contribute on this thread and mentor group is pretty awesome.

I got in 1:15 on the trainer this morning with 3x10' @95%FTP.  A little rusty with the FTP intervals since I have not done them in the last 3 weeks prepping for the HIM so felt them a bit more.  Probably going to run at lunch today since the pools closed.  I ran yesterday at noon and it was already 90 degrees..I was drenched in the first 5 minutes.

I am going to try to incorporate more hill work in my running.  I felt like in my HIM run that my legs were the limiter and not my aerobic system so want to build some run specific leg strength.  Plus, my next HIM has a hillier run so need to prep for that.

Marc - just curious, have you ridden Muskoka and Tremblant?  I wonder how the two courses compare.

Hey Marc - welcome aboard - great to have you! And just for the record, a 1:30 HM is pretty darn quick where I come from...

thanks. My run improved a lot when I took on running every day from Dec to March. I did the 100 day/100 run challenge on ST and it helped a lot.

I guess the point I was trying to convey was that I think I am relatively even across all 3 sports which makes it really hard to figure out where to spend time. And there is a ton or room for improvement across all 3.

It seems that when taking the time to improve 1, the other 2 start to slip. My bike slipped when I spent time on the run, and now that I am trying to bring the bike back in line, I feel the run is being compromised.

yeah, i have come to learn that i need more time on my bike....

but seriously, if i decide to run again seriously, the 100/100 challenge is something i would certainly consider. At this point running is my weakness, and the one i don't spend nearly enough time to improve. Bryan and many others have flat out told me so, and i trust their judgement. I just need to decide if it is important enough for me to tackle, or do Aquabikes and bike races and be happy being an incomplete triathlete.

Excellent question - i would also be interested to hear - I am signed up for IMMT and have done Muskoka as my only 70.3 ...

Lately i've been mad at myself for not being very organized or motivated and letting my volume slide. I really need to pick up the bike!  Anyway, this morning I went out to do a hilly route in place of an interval trainer ride and i am very happy to report that apparently I am improving.  I have a number of good hills on which to practice and for all of them I was able to push up in 'harder' gears and keep going ... especially the on one I felt really good because i am pretty certain i am always in granny gear and today i was not!!! YAY!  It's a great feeling!

Tonight, meeting the swim group for an open water swim.  I may try wetsuit-less (this is also progress!) because it is just too stinking hot out to put on a wetsuit.

Fred D - 2012-06-21 10:23 AM Where are the good hills near Toronto?

Think I may have mentioned it before - just come west into Milton.  Right on the Niagara escarpment, and we have a few here you can play on.

I was going to mention this before but never got around to it.  If you could get your HIM run down to 1:45-1:50 you would be super competitive in your AG.  But...you would really have to start loving to run .  I think you already know this!  Do what you love...sounds like bike racing and sprint tris.

Race timing question.  My HIM is in September, and I'm now considering racing an Olympic 3 weeks before hand.  Partly because I haven't done an Oly in a couple of years, partly to see how I do at the course since the ride is quite hilly, similar to the HIM.

Just wondering if I get any benefit out of doing this race, or if it's just too close to my A race.

Welp. Embarassed Maybe not huge climbs but i live near a river valley in the west end ... and get some decent climbs or several step ups.  Even have a switch back - which i did not do today.  There are definitely some good places to go grind it out.  It's city riding but just outside my door.

Just for interest sake and talking about hills - here's the route map for a local 'semi organized' run that hits a lot of the hills in my neighbourhood - they call it the Marquis de Sade 21k - i've never officially run it (I haven't done it all at one time) but most of those parts do form either my hilly run or hilly bike ...

Hahaha - awesome! There are lots of great hills right around Sunnybrook too!  I think one of the other great places and maybe even better for runners/cyclists in Toronto is along the Don Valley (where Sunnybrook backs on to)  - it's just a pain for me to get to ...

Maybe I'll be hcore and do a run to work one day. I'm staying downtown on King St so I could run one way and transit the other. We will see! I'm excited to come out to TO! Never really been aside from stop overs at Pearson. Good to know there is a healthy tri community there!

i describe them as a very violent 1 plus hour.

I don't even have to click the link to know who and what you are taking about. Nice how he can somehow link thongs, crotch rockets and aero all in the same post. That takes some serious skill. Oh, and of course an animal pic.If I were new to the site and happened on that as the first post I read, I'd seriously question the credibility of the site in total.

i wrote Ron and Mike a note on it, and honestly, i am really thinking of posting a Who gives a sh1t response.

i could use a good time out.
