I guess this is one of those "when it rains it pours" kind of weeks for the Manatees!

For me, my rest day (yesterday) went down like this:
1. Husband, whose boss missed the cut in Connecticut, drove home 17 hours. 6 miles from home, he stopped to get some fuel, added 8 gallons to the 1/4 tank he had left, and drove home. Woke up this morning and realized he put unleaded gasoline in the diesel engine. Cha-ching! Then, I called our roadside assistance for a tow. They asked why it wouldn't start/run, and I was honest. But no...they can't tow the Sprinter van now because it was caused by a personal choice. More cha-ching.

2. Husband cleaning out the RV van because the tow truck is on the way and it throwing clothes in the washer, which then throws some random code and won't work. I now have a load of sudsy clothes in the washer.

3. Swam 2500 yards and really struggled with hitting my requred pace (more on this later).

4. Came home ravenous and turned on the oven to throw a pizza in the oven. Heard a 'pop' then a 'crackle.' The oven door then locks closed and it throws an F1 code which reveals that the circuit board just took a crap.

So...probably $2500-3000 total on the RV, a few hundred to fix the washing machine, and a new stove. I had my eye on a new Quintana Roo PRfive with Di2 and race wheels.

On a positive note, I ALWAYS struggle hitting my t-pace at this particular pool. The pool staff swears it's 25yards. I walked it off after my swim, and I swear it's 25 meters. If that's the case, then I hit ALL pace targets during my swim, so +1.
Oh crap Nancy what a day!

Next time you go to the pool take a tape and measure it thatay you will know either way.

I put in for JAX but the SAC didn't see my SOI until after she selected. She said I should put in for Orlando when it opens. I also put in for Chuck-town but that SAC hadn't selected yet. So when I was offered Madison... a bird in the hand and all that....

June 23 is Robin P's birthday
June 27 is Chris' birthday

I hope all racing went as well as one could hope, although I'm sorry to see that it looks as though that wasn't the case for Markus.

Robin, I hope your b-day was a success.

We spent a few days off this weekend camping & mountain biking. Now I am getting back into reality (a place I'm not sure I really like). Ah well, who ever said the real world was fun probably never had fun!

Thanks for the b-day wishes!

Hello, hello!! Just checking in on you guys. I'm going to have read up.

Just wanted to let you know that I haven't been doing my triathloning. Tore my meniscus on March 3rd and have been pretty much just recovering it since then. I did do a sprint triathlon a couple weeks ago after a surgeon said to go ahead and do what I normally do. Thankfully I have been keeping up with the cycling, which doesn't bother my bad knee, and doing what I can at the gym.

Hope all is well!! Going to read up on your activities when I get home and sit down.

Same to you! Ten mile trail "race" tomorrow.... "Race" in quotes because I haven't done one of these for at least 25 years! I don't think I have even done a run-only race for several years. (Just can't be bothered to pay $ to run when I can do it for free.) Plus I have a long ride on Saturday and right now am in peak HIM training. Let's just call it a supported run with a bunch of other crazy people on some trails.

Good luck, racers!

Happy Cake Day, Adam!

I'm doing the Barebones Open Water race tomorrow, but I'm using it more as a practice OWS than a race. I signed up for the 1 mile, but may change to the 2 mile. There are a lot of fires around here and if the air is anything like it is right now, I'm only going to do the 1 mile and work on my catch has been missing for a while.

Maybe someday I will learn to find out a bit more about the course before I race.....

I had no idea of the elevation of these trails. Thought it was between 4500 and 5500, but actually we started at about 6100 feet, went down to 5800 feet, back up to almost 7600 feet and then back down to 6100 (in I think the last 25 minutes?). I swear we were going uphill for A FULL HOUR. Most people were walking up the final climb to the summit, and some were passing me while doing so, but I really did "run" all the way as:

#1 I was in a death match from about the first mile with a pudgy-looking young woman and her large dog (and they BEAT me by two places--humiliation--first time I have ever been beaten by a dog!). I passed them on the uphill but got nuked by three women and went from 3rd to 6th on the final steep descent over the last 20 minutes or so. It would have helped to have a better idea when I was "almost" done but honestly it wouldn't have made a difference of more than one place, if that!

#2 My body doesn't tend to take kindly to alternating walk and run uphill . Previous limited experience with Crater Lake Marathon and trail runs in Hawaii tells me I'm more likely to cramp that way.

#3 It was my long RUN, right? Wasn't sure how walking would count for that, even if most competitors, even top women, were doing that!

Started too fast (as it was downhill); had no idea where I was distance-wise at any point on the course as no mile markers and not wearing Garmin. Anyway, ended up 6th or 7th overall and 1st in age group (40-49). This is the first trail race that I have done in maybe 25 years!

The scenery was beautiful but breathing too hard to appreciate it much. I only had one gu because between the hills and the altitude, I was (seriously) breathing too hard to swallow!

I am not looking forward to tomorrow's ride......

haha, your beaten by a dog reminds me of a friend who was beaten by a woman running in jeans and cowboy boots who was also running with her dog!  Neither were in any danger of winning an OA placement or AG though!! Congrats on the Bling !

Err..."Bling" was a $10 gift certificate for a local tri store. That wasn't even enough to cover a pair of socks plus tax. I think overall top 3 got socks, race belt, or running hat. Second and third AG was a $5 gift certificate from a local brew pub. This was a pretty bare-bones race! I did get a few bananas and Lara Bars courtesy of the event.

I ran a 10k race yesterday and it was so much more fun than a couple of weeks ago, time wasn't great but it was so hot (29C) so can live with that, no shade and the heat bouncing back of the road was a killer. I was seating so much I thought I may have evaporated by the end! Always good though to get a nice T-shirt at the end! God knows how those of you do it who live in much warmer climates than the UK manage.
