Had a great time on Saturday up until mile 20. I was the one who wiped out going around the corner. Big thanks to my buddy Justin for checking on me and a real shout out to the ladies from EMG who helped me out by getting my bike into their car and getting me back to our truck, even though both of my butt cheeks were hanging out.

Yes, arrive early.  But you do not have to pay the daily fee, it gets waived on race day.

mcgilmartin - 2010-04-18 6:32 PM And is anyone interested in a BT get-together @ the camping site?  . . . I'd be up for hanging with the BT peeps.

For those BTers I knew who had campsites I submitted a request to have all of our sites next to each other. I haven't had any confirmation back if my request was honored, but regardless I'm sure we can get something quasi organized - whether you have a campsite or not.

I definitely enjoyed myself out there Saturday, but I was also a little humbled by the bike course as well. It's good to know what I still need to work on. I plan on riding the course once more before the race.

mcgilmartin - 2010-04-18 5:32 PM Sounds like you guys had a great weekend training!  Any suggestions for those of us that didn't make it out?
And is anyone interested in a BT get-together @ the camping site?  We tried and failed miserably last year @ Redman, this would be fun to try at this event.  I'm staying @ the Hampton, but I'd be up for hanging with the BT peeps.  I always find we have a lot in common when we meet in "real life"!

I'd be up for this too!  I'm staying at a hotel but would love to meet up with everybody!

Even if they are not right together, it's pretty easy to walk around the campgrounds. We could make a sign at one of the major intersections with a campsite # for a get together or something...

Which reminds me of this hilarious sign last year. Yes that is a blow-up doll above the sign.

Hey y'all - if you saw anyone walking around with big silly Uggs on before the bike ride on Saturday, that was me .

On a completely different tangent, has anyone NOT received their KSWISS shoes who SHOULD have gotten them? I meant to ask the race director Saturday but I completely forgot. I'm just trying to figure out if I'm the only one still missing my shoes...

Not yet. What about y'all who did this race previously and camped, when did you hear about campsite locations?

Looks like I am out for this years race. Saw an orthopedic surgeon for my hip today after my bike crash at the training ride. Luckily no fractures, but I still have a large hump on my right hip. He said no training for a minimum of two weeks and then "light" training after that. He told me if I don't take time off now I will be dealing with this for months and months to come. Am still planning on coming down to watch everyone race. Maybe a late season half iron is in order.

Jeff,

Sorry to hear about the injury- that is a real bummer.  On the bright side, you caught the problem early and should have it under control.  I know the aggravations that come with injury, but just remember that "there's always next year!"

Sorry to hear about the prognosis, Jeff. Best of luck on getting healed up. Hopefully you can get fully recovered and fit in a race later this season.

Oooof that is no fun Jeff - I'm sorry.
A good "late season" HIM you might be interested in is Redman in Oklahoma City. It's September 25th this year.

Does anyone from last year have good insight on how T1 will work as far as bags go.  Will they have all your stuff in a transition bag by a tent to change if necessary or will it just be everything at your bike?

I guess I envision it like Kona where your bag is handed to you after you exit the swim.  Am i remotely close here or is it just wishful thinking?

No... you'll set up T1 and T2 (separate areas) the morning of the race just like you would any other race. There are no tents for changing. No one will hand you your bag.

Last year you could put stuff out at T1 but the space was so limited you really couldn't set out a towel or anything. Lots of people kept their stuff in their gear bag hanging from the bike for T1. Here's a pic from last year where you can kind of see limited stuff on the ground - this was while the pro's were coming out of the water I think.

In T2 you could set stuff out the morning of, but again lots of people kept it in their bag, I'm assuming for fear of rain or wind blowing stuff away.

They should come out with an Athlete's guide in the next few weeks that explains everything, too.

I second this one, Jeff!  Did it last year and it was a great time.  OKC is a really fun town, stay in the Brickyard.  I'm coming back again this year for the full aquabike.

It looks like camping assignments have been posted. You can check them out at the ironmankansas.com website under Lodging and then by clicking the link at the bottom of the screen.
If you try to look at the hand drawn map of the campsite they have posted, keep in mind that its flipped upside down, where the top of the screen is south and the bottom is north.

There were four known BTers with campsites, but we're scattered about despite a request to be together (there was a difference in what type of campsite people had - premium v standard). No worries though, I don't imagine this will prevent people from meeting up.

Never fear, we will all find each other. Just look for my hair. I will keep it inflated. Wink

Am I correct in thinkin the finish line will straight in on the center line right before you would turn right or left (hitting sites 12 or 256 respectively)?

I ran the course this past weekend and that is the best I can figure out.

BTW, I am 261.  Where is everyone else that has a spot?
