Sorry all Rev 3 folks.  Last year the river was very fast, not sure why it wasn't this year.  I'm very happy with sub 30:00 in general for my swim, but last year I believe I swam a 23:00, which was only good for solid MOP in my AG so it wasn't extra speed on my part last year.

Bike, I think I explained pretty well, lots of climbs.  That whole on-ramp, off-ramp at the beginning and end were new since the bridge we took out of town and back in last year was the one they were blowing up.

Run, I'm not sure where you guys on the half ran into hills.  I thought the Oly ran the same route other than you guys kept running past the sign on the trail for another few miles.  I assumed it was as flat as the rest of the trail.

Hope everyone had fun, I know we did, it was great seeing everyone again and meeting Julia/Jeff and kids.  Our kids had a blast playing with all the other ones.  John, Drew wants to send a picture to Jack off his DS so that should be on on it's way tonight.

Now we're right back in it, Swim team starts tonight as well as Ballet, workouts, etc....

All the water is in the Mississippi?

Love the videos!! But...John...you either have bad photography skillz or need better camera....I've stopped looking after a dozen blurry pictures. (LOVE the one with the nose picker...)

I love you my friend, but you'll never make it as a Zazoosh photographer. :-)

just call me ansel.  ;-)   the fuzzy shots are from my iphone.  pretty lame camera.

edit.,  all the images are here.  some good ones.  let me know if you want full size and i'll get em' to you.

Drop the Nikon and go with a Canon!!!

John:

I like the pictures on flickr and if I go through them fast enough everyone is running backwards!

Suzy: Your quads look like they are almost as big around as you are tall!

RR done

Good race all, great seeing you guys again.  Looking forward to the next one.

There is talk of Wisc Dells, I think Sam and I are going to try to do Vineman next year, we'll see if we can get both in.

Congrats racers! And thanks Fatty for the awesome pics.  Looks like a ton of fun.

I might be on board for the Dells HIM next summer. But I need to talk this out... current plan is for IMMoo 2012 so I'd think it'd be bad form to do an HIM just a few weeks before IM (right?).  BUT I'm not committing to the IM until after I do Timberman this Aug.  Meaning either I chicken out of doing an IM completely or decide to go with IMTX in May2013 (just days before my 40th bday... ACK!) in which case I could do it.  I also like the idea of vacationing around the Dells HIM bc then I don't have to pull my son out of school a week after starting and we'd fly out for IMMoo instead.   Decisions, decisions.

The run went about another mile on the trail and then went into a fancy neighborhood that was quite hilly. I think it must have been a net downhill to the turnaround, because that third leg felt like it was almost entirely uphill. Or maybe that was just me hitting the wall!

We had a great time meeting everyone - this is such a friendly and fun group! Sam and Tony, thanks again for hosting the group dinner. That was the perfect setting with all the kids free to run around together. John, thanks for posting the pictures. I'm so glad to have the video of running through the chute with my kids. It was really fun to race with everyone, and I look forward to the next one!

Thanks to my brainiac husband we made it home only a few hours late today!!!  Last night at midnite they cancelled our morning flight....he's so smart. Kiss

I don't care what the race results held, I had a great time....ok, maybe I care a little about those results, but I'm out for revenge....here are my details!

PS Christina, no way, no how would I do a HIM that close to IM.  My last HIM will be 8 weeks for IM MOO.

PPS. Where the heck are these pictures.  Doug has me worried about my legs .  Do I need a different fitness plan?

velcromom - 2011-05-14 4:13 PM Checking in to wish good luck to all of the racers!!!    Sitting on the balcony, sipping a mimosa.....picking up my rental bike (Transition Pro!) in 2 hours.....gonna ride the Queen K!!!

Sounds great.  How much did you pay for the rental bike?

$60 for a 24 hour rental.  As I pointed out to many....cheaper than golf club rentals!  The bike was a 2010, I think.  It had been in a bang-up, and made a few creaky noises, but it was a nice bike.  I had an AWESOME ride all the way up to Hawi - the IM turnaround.  62 miles of heat, humidity, wind and stunningly beautiful views.  I was stunned, however, at the wind.  The crosswinds were brutal - I can see why so many wipeouts occur at that part of the race.

The bike SEAT, however, was HORRID.  From now on, I'll travel with my own.  Sore girly parts is a high price to pay for all involved!!

Flew to Maui yesterday.  Renting a house with 2 guys/wives that Jeff works with.  The most beautiful views.  When I get home I'll post pics and try to link to them.  Ran this monring in the hills above the Lahaina - got lost, had a blast.

I may never go home.

You're right about the rental prices.   I remember renting golf clubs once on Maui.  I got my money's worth out of them because I'm a terrible golfer and got to hit lots of balls.    Sorry to hear about the bike seat.   Sounds like a sales opp for bike seat makers and the rental place, i.e., $10 more for a Cobb or Adamo or whatever.

Enjoy Maui - it's kind of hard not to.

So I posed the question to my coach about what I could do to take 5 minutes off my Rev 3 time, curious on your guys thoughts also.  Bike, probably not much, Run yeah I could go faster but maybe 2-3 minutes at most, transition, add another minute or so there.  Which leaves me with the swim.

I hate swimming in a pool, it ranks right up there with watching paint dry on my personal entertainment scale.  I've taken lessons from 3-4 coaches, gone to masters, tried swimming 3 times a week, I get slightly faster sometimes but it doesn't seem to cut into my times that much

Any thoughts on how to make it more enjoyable, I look forward to all my bikes, even the ones where I get dropped and have to TT my way back to the group for 4 hours.  I also enjoy all my runs, but pretty much dread every blue workout in Training Peaks.

Suzy gave me her swim Mp3 and that didn't help, lol maybe a water proof TV so I can shut off my brain while swimming?

For S&G's I went back through all my Oly and HIM swims.

Miami MAN (2008) 00:25:48 | 1056 yards | 02m 26s / 100yards
Mooseman (2009) 00:50:33 | 1500 meters | 03m 22s / 100meters
Rev 3 (2010) 00:24:33 | 1500 meters | 01m 38s / 100meters (obvious short or strong current)
Columbia (2010) 00:29:30 | 1500 meters | 01m 58s / 100meters
Ft. Ritchie (2010) 00:30:18 | 1500 meters | 02m 01s / 100meters
Rumpass (2010) 00:34:40 | 1500 meters | 02m 19s / 100meters
Rev 3 (2011) 00:29:14 | 1500 meters | 01m 57s / 100meters

And just for Comparison
Lonestar (2010) 00:44:23 | 2000 meters | 02m 13s / 100meters

In my AG I was 21st on the swim, 8th on the bike and 12th on the run, so swimming faster would help, though this swim was my fastest to date other than the abberation last year.

After my wonderful swim performance at REV3, I should probably not comment on this but here is my $.02 anyway.  Yell

You are probably at the point of diminishing returns on swimming training.  Additional yardage may not increase your speed because the issue is probably not fitness related.  How many additional yards would you have to swim per week to drop your min/100 time by :10 seconds?  If you put in this extra time and drop your 100 splits by those :10 seconds, your delta would be around 3 minutes faster for a HIM.

You could achieve about the same time delta by dropping :15 seconds per mile off your run.  Or you could achieve about the same time delta by increasing your bike split by 0.3 mph.

Which would be easier for you to accomplish?  Which provides the best ROI on your training time?

Here is the EN kool-aide (we all know I have drank the Kool-aide) on this subject:  http://www.endurancenation.us/blog/2011/02/28/another-reason-against-year-round-swimming-plus-a-challenge/

..............   Or consider hiring SkinnySkinSkin to coach you through transitions for a season?
