Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! Muskrat37 - 2013-01-21 1:34 PM Glad you didn't have to puke up your lungs to avoid being pinkied! Congrats.TriAya - 2013-01-21 11:24 AM melbo55 - 2013-01-22 3:18 AM My race on Sunday wasn't my best effort, but it was OK. Started out way too slow, not sure if it was the crowd or me or both. There seemed to be more people there than usual, and for some reason I just wasn’t pumped up, maybe because I knew I was on a tight schedule and it had me a little off. Most importantly I finished ahead of the girl in the outrageous pink outfit (trust me, it was MUCH worse than just pink but I hesitate to describe her in too much detail on the miniscule chance she is on here and would read the write-up) and her somewhat less bizarrely dressed friends. I planned on shredding my legs and puking up my lungs if necessary to not let her beat me, but thankfully it wasn't necessary! 2nd and 3rd mile splits were more in the range I was hoping for over the whole race. There’s always next month to improve my times!
CONGRATULATIONS MELANIE!

Veteran 416 Cleveland, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! I hate finding out late in the day, 5:30pm that Masters Swim is not happening due to the pool being closed. I was planning to do my first swim in almost a month. Guess I have to wait until Saturday and jump on the treadmill, already to dark outside to go for a run. |

Veteran 416 Cleveland, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! So I am "productively procrastinating" tonight. I do not want to get on the treadmill so I started working on my cross country drive and stop locations. So far I am looking at: Seattle, WA; Spokane, WA; Yellowstone National Park; Salt Lake City, UT; Mt Zion National Park; Las Vega, NV; Flagstaff, AZ; Albequrque, NM; Oklahoma City, OK; Dalas, TX; Birmingham, AL; finally Cleveland, TN. Anyone have any other suggestions or places to visit on that drive or live along those routes? I know Salty & Chad are in the Seattle area. |

I am still not 100% sure when I will be leaving Alaska, mainly I am not sure when I will be able to sign out to start my drive. It might be May 23 or 24. |

What i want is to crawl into bed until I am feeling like my old self. Dammit. Im not an expert but I wonder if maybe your adrenal glad is not functioning properly. From what I have been told it can only store. So much adrenilan and only make it at a certain speed. If you are using all of the stored adrenalin while you race maybe it is taking a while for your body to build up adequate stores for you to function normally again. I may have this totally wrong and there might be someone with more accurate knowledge that can help you. But maybe a trip to a naturapath might help find an answer or even taking a herbal adrenial supplement. (Just remember that I got my medical qualifications from the Weetbix box ) |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! Good day all, I hope your weekends (extended or not) have been enjoyable. TJ - That elevation graph is sick. Great job! Kirsten - Nice pool time. 4700+ in 2 days, WOW! That is one of my months Chad - I hope your week is good and may it be a bit less full of chores and more full of skiing. Cool to get through the double diamond without a broken anything! Melanie - IMO if you are able to adjust your race on the fly and reset, then you have have had a successful race. It is not always the result, but the effort that matters. Jo - I'm keeping you in my prayers. I hope you can figure out what seems to be messing with you. Marcus - I only worry about splits on my "faster" days. I have landmarks that I use to calculate on the fly. Not technical in any way, but it works for me. Sorry if it is no help. Jonathan in AK - That chili looks pretty dang tasty, nice job. How long do you have for this trip? You have a ton of stops in the list, that is so cool! Enjoy the trip planning. Sometimes that can be as much fun as the actual trip. Yanti - You can feel free to post pool pics anytime. Rainy season looks delightful in your neck of the woods. At least it does in your pic. I hope all is well with you and that you are taking care of your health. |

I woke up at 7 and felt like crap, so I bagged it. I think I'm getting sick, and I have a headache from getting up with E so many times. Plus, I've been worried about the distance given my lack of running lately. So, yes, I am lame. Only your toe is lame...the rest of you is just tired. Sorry you missed it, but glad you listened to your little voice. Use the day to rest up.You made the right decision for you. I hope that you are feeling better today. |

You will nail that HIM! Kirsten- over 3000! Woo hoo! Melanie - good job with the obnoxious pink girl! Jo - Congrats on the race! Sorry about the weepiness now. I'd start with upping nutrition and go from there. It could be something as simple as post-event calories. |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! So another "view" I got on my bike this weekend was this "ghost bike". That's what they're called here. People in New Mexico are big on placing memorial crosses and personal items on the side of roadways where a loved one was killed. (Think of the country song "Three Wooden Crosses", Randy Travis lives in NM). In cases where the person was killed on a bike the memorial usually includes a ghost bike. Well this one "appeared" recently on a route I ride regularly. When I first saw it from across the road it freaked me out because I hadn't heard anything about a recent accident out there. When I came back by I stopped to take a look and saw that the victim was killed in 2007. Maybe it took his family this long to get approval from the tribe to put it there, i dunno. Anyway, it reminded me that I need to be ever vigilant, even on this highway with wide shoulders. Stay safe my friends. Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! Race report time! And I've been thinking of AK Jonathan all morning. Today in PA we have temps in the teens with single digit wind chills today (*F), brrr!! It's supposed to be similarly cold all week. Yet what is horribly cold to me is balmy compared to his sub-zero weather he endures almost daily. OK, so I've been thinking about all the manatees and their respective local climates. Envisioning the folks like Chris, Yanti, Stacey and Jo who have lovely, warm temps right now is nice!! |

I don't know if any of you read Yehuda Moon -- it's a cartoon about a guy who works in a bike shop and rides his crusty old touring bike everywhere -- there's a very poignant recurring theme about a friend of his who was hit and he put up a ghost bike for him. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! jbwills - 2013-01-20 12:31 PM So I am looking at starting a training plan, getting some structure into my training. I am looking at the Chattanooga Waterfront Tri (oly) on July 7 and NashVegas Half-Distance on Sept 7 being my A races. I am leaning towards dropping a full IM from my schedule this year. I might do a late season HIM or full Mary. I am sure I will find a couple of more B races once I move and get established back in TN. So my questions are: Should I start a training plan for an Oly then do a "bridge" type plan between the Oly and the HIM? If not what kind of training plan would the Manatees recommend? It will probably be a custom plan from BT. For Chattanooga I would like to be competitive. I also want to take about 20-30 minutes off of last years time of 3:08. I can already tell I am going to be better prepared for the race. I want to make sure I am well set-up to also deal with my travel time in May/June with a decent base by then. There's a few options, Jonathan. One is to do one of the intermediate/advanced Oly training plans for Chattanooga; they should be giving you enough load to just be able to add on some distance bikes and a long run or two and be well-prepared for NV as well. Another option is to go the full Monty distance-training route and use something like Don Fink's Be Iron Fit training programs (very time-conscious) where there's an Oly at week 18 or so and an HIM at week 22. (Obviously would take a bit of tinkering and adjustment). Doing so will still give you all the oomph you need for an Oly, and be excellent prep for the HIM as well. |

Other than the maca powder you might want to see a naturopath or allopath or really, any kind of path … you might want to think about hormone replacement therapy … or cognitive-behavioral therapy … but things shouldn’t have to be this tough for you. Love you to bits, don’t want to see you going to bits! Salty – Ethiopian food, the one thing Bali is missing! Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! It was massively foggy and cold all weekend and hadn't snowed in the mountains in more than a week so we scratched snowboarding and cross country skiing and elected to go on a hike in search of the sun. I walked across that lake seen below once we were finished. I could hear it snap-crackle and poppin' under my feet. Luckily it wasn't too deep. I figure if I went in it would be a much needed ice bath. Did a brewery tour on Saturday, I think we tasted like 30 or 40 beers. But who's counting??? We found this random tetherball pole annnnd one of my favorite parks in Seattle. Nothin' like slightly over-sized hat and boots. Just cause. *It's got to be noted, I didn't plan for my outfit to so nicely coordinate with the hat and boots. It just happened. I'm smooth like that. Edited by Asalzwed 2013-01-22 12:04 PM |
