Best I have is change your training log view to "calendar".  You can click on the month to go to a specific year, or scroll forward/backward.  Monthly totals are at the bottom of the calendar.  I haven't figured out how to get yearly totals other than the 2 prior years.

ETA, you don't have to actually change the default view.  You can just click on My Training Calendar if you use the blog as your default view.

Unfortunately, not what I want, but thanks.  They had it quite nicely formatted on the old site, but just seems to be missing on this one.

Think I see what you're saying, but how much value do you place in that? Months vary in size and start & stop on different days of the week. My bike mileage could vary by as much as 150 miles because of this. It might be worth more to grab the weeks and if you need a bigger picture, maybe add together every 4 weeks or so? Something more consistant and that matches up better with how you schedule things (as many do it weekly).

Actually I was looking at it more for the big picture perspective.  Looking for annual volumes, and how months have stacked up against one another year over year. I realize that hours/distances/frequency will have some variation, but it's the one place I have all my data from the past 5 years.

Not sure if you meant me or not (mentioned I raced it above) but would be happy to give feedback.  I did it 4 years in a row and think its a great experience and provides a looooong training weekend early in the year.  Its quite the drive for us from NW WI, so I think this year was my last for a while.

Neil:  Best I have found is from 'My Training Reports'.  It is still a bar graph but it provides a nice visual of how months compare year over year for each discipline all right in front of you.

I went back 2 years and figured out my training has not sucked as bad as I thought it did these last few months .  That is, if you do not consider the lack of purple in my graph.

Thanks.  Thinking I may try to go for a little variety....   trying for the Escape Lottery and then trying to get into SOS, which I was supposed to do way back in 2009 just when I got sick

Yeah, I am thinking Wildflower long, Escape and SOS as anchors would make for a nice season...  Now, about that getting into Escape and SOS thing...

Escape and Wildflower are on my list of races to do in the near future (moving back to CA soon).

What's SOS?

Hesitant on whether to add my data point to this but here goes...I've been doing the endurance thing since high school so base was not a factor when I started doing tris in 2005.  I had one year in 2010 that was crazy busy as far as racing goes.....15 races leading up to IM Canada (10:57) and then IM WI a couple weeks later (14:16) (not recommended as far as the back to back IM Wink ).  A disclaimer is that 4 of those races were at Triple T Ohio.  I never tapered for any of my smaller races and in fact raced an Olympic the weekend before Racine 70.3 in July (4:39).  I loved racing as much as I did and simply treated smaller races as speed work.  I would never recommend such a season to a beginner that didn't have much experience. Also worth noting that I don't have kids.

I find those observations useful.  I don't have nearly your experience, but I do seem to be somewhat durable.  I take the same attitude to smaller races (no taper), but sometimes I still wonder whether they take more out of me than it feels at the time.

Somewhat irrelevant though, since I now have 5 kids all under 12 and a busy job...  That sort of decides the issue for me, for now at least..

Yes because why would anyone do run hill repeats.  That's what your bike is for.  And cookies fit in your jersey pockets.

SOS would be cool.

Survival of the Shawangunks  an 8 stage "wilderness" race.  Bike, run, swim, run, swim, run, swim, run.  Total bike 30 mi, swim 2.2 or so, run 18 or so

I'm doing it backwards.  I fuel with cookies after the long ride.

BarryP run program.  I know we've talked about this before (but it's been a while), but has anyone really followed the program the way he lays it out?  I'm feeling good in the Hoka's and now starting to seriously think about a Spring marathon.  The one I have in mind would be early May, so I basically have 8 months to get ready for it.  I'm thinking about following the BarryP program over the next few months, and then transition into a specific race plan.  Any feedback from anyone who's stayed true to the program?  I remember Tom put all the data together in a document before, but now I can't find it - Tom...?

I'm also torn/unsure about how to balance cycling while increasing the running.  I want to focus on both, but common sense tells me it really has to be one or the other.

Still don't know what SOS is. Bueller? Bueller?

Curious to hear if any of you supplement your run training with elliptical time and how that's worked for you.

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
