Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Washclothes for T1 and T2 I did that for IM Aquavelo I did last month. I dropped of T1 bag when I got to swim start area and had a long swim...when I used wet washcloth in ziplock to wipe my face it smelled a bit ripe. For IMFL I think I'll bring dry washcloth and small sealed bottle of water for both T1 & T2 to wet it and wipe if I want to. Small hand towels are great for both transition bags My very cool find that I have used for races for last year are individual wipes. Some products like wet wipes have alcohol in them so they can't be used comfortably everywhere. Often portapotties run out of TP and you might need something. Folks at times get the runs in Ironman and having no TP is very bad. I found these wipes in the feminine hygiene aisle called Always wipes..individually wrapped good for hands, face, bum or any place else you might need them. I carry them in my back tri jersey pocket for any stops I may need and will have some extras in special needs bags. |

Expert 1360 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread The kleenex brand wipes are good too. No alcohol, they have aloe and they have a bit of grit in the clothe that you can scrub a bit. It is what I always keep my my car. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Has anyone gotten any emails regarding the race from IM? Last year before IM Canada they sent out a few emails and one of the last ones was notice that bib numbers were going to be assigned by XX date and if you were not going to race, please let them know. When do you think athlete guide and bib numbers will come out? |

I mean look at me.........no one would suspect I could or would finish but I'm damn stubborn and thats mostly what it takes!! ITs not that they CAN'T in most cases its that they DON'T WANT TO. Esp they don't want to do the training. Or are a fraid of it. |

When do you think athlete guide and bib numbers will come out? Checking back in last years thread, the bib numbers came out on the 27/10 (sorry, UK format!). Couldn't find when the Athlete Guide appeared though. For IMKY last year, the athlete guide came out 3 weeks before the race and bib numbers were around 2 weeks before the race. I do remember getting an email from Ironman asking to let them know if anyone wasn't racing. Looks like all Ironman races aren't created equally! I don't think we'll get the bib numbers until the week before the race - so last week of October |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread tri-ghost reminded me last night about an IM packing checklist. I have one that AbbieR shared with me for IMAZ. I modified it for my needs but I have her original and I am sure she'd be fine with me sharing it. If you want it, PM or email me and I will forward it to you. Make sure to include an email address. |

Expert 1091 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread On the special needs/ transitions bag talk...my teammate who has done several IM's (many in PCB, his favorite course) has HIGHLY suggested your support crew have a change of dry clothes for the finish of the race for you,( along with those beers if you'd like them!) Our body temps will be very elevated from our efforts from the day and we will be covered in sweat! For many of us, it will be dark and the temps will have dipped when we finish. Getting into the dry clothes should help keep us from shaking and getting really really cold. I was a catcher last year and saw this happening a lot to finishers (I worked the last shift so it was dark and cool out). I personally got completely frozen after my half mary last fall here in Detroit, and will be heeding this advice. Lots of great ideas here! Thanks everyone for sharing! This first timer appreciates it! |

If you do not think they will get to you in time because of where you live , please see if someone else will be willing to receive your shirt for you." Jay...if the shirts are not going to be shipped until the 29th, i might need to make arrangements with somebody to get shirts shipped. We will be leaving Austin on Tuesday 11/2, and don't want to miss the delivery. Guess you could ship ALL the shirts to Kathy's condo... :-) |

Veteran 297 Kansas | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Tire boot/patches. Somebody else suggested this on another thread, and I ended up purchasing some for like 4 bucks. Someone mentioned getting a one inch rip in their tire and didnt really matter how many tubes they had as they kept pushing through the rip in the tire. I read that in a pinch, you can put a used GU wrapper inside the tire, but for 4 bucks these were worth squeezing into my tube bag on the bike. |

I will be down there on Monday the 1st and would love to get a few swims in to get used to the water and get rid of some jitters. Anyone interested in getting a group together to swim/ride/run on Tues, Wed. and Thur before race? Maybe we can coordinate something. |

Member 34 Philly | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread cjkelly - awesome spreadsheet. Thanks much for sharing with us! My version was a little more primitive, used Notepad. Transferring my list over, you covered everything I had come up with to pack and then some! Yeah, my Florida trip is on a tighter schedule where I won't be getting into town until Thursday around lunchtime, and then have to head back home on Sunday. Will be staying at the Summit right on the beach - seems to be about 1/4 mile from the start/transition area. I've been planning on doing a swim on Friday morning, just to loosen up, get used to the water conditions and get a mental image of what to expect. Would be very cool to go out with a group. I'm thinking it would be a short swim anyway, since Friday needs to be a rest day as much as possible. I'm not sweating the bike or run course, as they seem pretty darn flat. Thanks jldicarlo for the awesome writeup too! I've been training on nothing but hills, so transitioning to this course should not be a shocker. |
