Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Manatee Monkey Mentors SHUT (Poptart or pet pic bribes considered) Originally posted by StaceyK I hope the quietness in the pod means that everyone has had a great weekend! Mine has sucked... On Friday I had to terminate to employment of someone I consider to be a friend, it sucked! On Saturday Bruce had to have emergency surgery because he has been eating rocks again and one over 1" round got stuck in his bowel. He has been at the vet under observation since to make sure he doesn't get an infection. I am dreading seeing the size of the bill when we pick him up. Yesterday (Sunday) my mums friend got removed from a plane in KL while on her way back to Australia because they didn't think she had a valid visa to enter the country, she is a permanent resident so doesn't need one, but that was a drama to help sort out. Then my footy team lost again. And to top off the day at about 9:30pm Phil closed our office door and somehow it locked from the inside all my stuff for work today was in the office. We have lived here 10 years and didn't know there was even a lock on the door. Luckily a window was open so at about 10 last night we were outside in the rain removing the security screen so I could climb in the window and open the door - you really have to laugh at that one. Enjoy the last bit of your Sunday. What a craptastic few days! I hope that this week is better and that Bruce is doing well. |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Manatee Monkey Mentors SHUT (Poptart or pet pic bribes considered) Originally posted by bcraht So I was to do my last long bike yesterday, but got a flat at km 60ish. I am running tubulars and we didn't bring any spares, so that was the end of my ride. My training partner went on, and finished the course in under 7 hours, which was really good for his mental prep I think. They offered to go back up with me today, which we did, and I picked up where I left off, which meant 35km mostly down to Pemberton, 50km flat in Pemberton, the 35km climb back to Whistler. It POURED rain, but there was very little wind. I finished it is 4:33, and yesterday I did the first part of the course (Whistler down to Callaghan, up Callaghan, and reverse route back to Whistler) in 2:29. Sooooooo....I am pretty happy with that. If conditions are good on race day (read no wind), I should get a sub 7 bike time, which would thrill me on this course. I would have been happy to keep a 24km/hr (just under 15mph) pace for the 120km today, and I managed 25.4km/hr (15.8mph). I am also thrilled to be done with the long stuff for this race... Nicely done! You'll be so glad that you have this familiarity with the course on race day. What a confidence builder! |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Manatee Monkey Mentors SHUT (Poptart or pet pic bribes considered) Stacey, sorry you had a less than stellar weekend The things we go through for our furry friends Hope everyone else had a good weekend. I posted in Kingsley's RR thread but I can't even begin to imagine swimming a 10k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't find Salty's USATF meet on USN I start with my new coach tomorrow! We swim Tuesday night and on Thursday I've signed on to be a test subject on the Computrainer. The email says that after the test I'll receive a document that outlines my Functional Threshold Heart Rate and associated training zones, my FTP and info on my pedal stroke efficiency. I am trying to prepare myself to be humiliated by said information and plan to use it as a baseline for improvement. And, of course, I have 15 weeks to build from the 1.1 miles I did this morning to my HM in October

Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Manatee Monkey Mentors SHUT (Poptart or pet pic bribes considered) Day two of nutrition challenge is nearly finished...So far, I am enjoying it, I have good energy, and as I am eating a lot, craving sugar and bread is not an issue. I am dealing with a slight headache from giving up caffeine (again), but overall, I am quite happy. Tomorrow will be the big test--how to eat the right stuff and at the right times while at work....and I have to get up earlier to cook up my breakfast--no eating it on the go anymore! I cooked up a load of chicken breasts today to last the week, and will hook up salmon tonight-yum!

J made him for me after his coaching last week. Needs some tape still, but used today and helped right away. (I know, I know. Veteran 2842 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: Manatee Monkey Mentors SHUT (Poptart or pet pic bribes considered) OK, so a wacky weekend (plus a day) this one past. Went to the beach, so I put the bike on the rack and locked it up for the trip - and left the key at home. Then had to watch salt spray get driven over the bluff and soak it during the hurricane… At least the storm waited until after the local Independence Day celebration (in Plymouth - "America's Home Town" - we celebrate on the night of the 3rd with fires the size of houses along the beach (no exaggeration) and fireworks… such a great night). Went surfing in the day-after-waves (always a family fave - sunny, surfy… awesome) and managed a mild concussion. Worth it, though! Next morning Kim pops her head back in the bedroom after getting up early and says, "Oh, we're racing today." We'd seen a sign for a local 4 miler along the beach on our longer run the day prior (not a good way to taper, as it happens) and thought it would be fun - but we were both dead tired Saturday night and decided not to run it (not to mention said thwacking of my head with a surfboard). Until, that is, we decided to run it! Ha! Kim was first woman and I managed 3rd overall - I love a small field. Mostly, though, I love local races. SO much fun! Then last night I was swimming happily along while the 3 kids were a couple lanes over at team practice (perhaps slightly less happily doing drills) when they pull us all out of the pool - for a tornado! What the heck?!? OK - maybe this wouldn't be a whacky weekend for some of you (no day-glo weddings or such), but was fun for us - and we even got a race in! Matt |
