A couple pair actually but notably my marathon flats. I don't like saving stupid crap but they ARE my first marathon shoes AND I wore them 4/15/2013 so I feel as though I should keep them. Any ideas? You could bronze them Create a shadow box with the shoes, bib and your medal. Doesn't have to be hung anyplace conspicuous, just somewhere you will see it. OK, I like the shadow box idea a lot as well. Brings in more aspects of the race day/experience/why the shoes are extra special. Plus it's probably easier and cheaper than bronzing! |

You could bronze them That would be cool, and a real conversation starter for anyone who sees them. My mom has a set of her baby shoes that were bronzed and made into bookends. On the topic of retiring running shoes, what indicators, other than mileage, should be taken into account? And mileage is somewhat subjective, too, based on the runner's style, size, etc., correct? I think this is VERY personal. I don't even know if mileage should be a huge factor because of the things you listed above. I have a pretty good idea of how my shoes should feel and it's very apparent when they should be retired. I can always feel it in my knees, hips and feet. These particular shoes are racing flats so their life is much shorter than most due to the very minimal materials used in the shoe. |

Yeah, and this picture doesn't do it any justice (I pulled it from the internet since I don't have mine at my desk if you can believe it ) It's like, 12" long so you get some good bottle opening leverage. I toted it around everywhere in Boston. |

I ditched my swim/run session this morning *hangs head*. In trying to make my training more transparent to DH I decided to schedule my current plan with morning only sessions. Monday & Wednesday are swim then run on the dreadmill. I think that is the problem. Not only do I not look forward to getting up at O Dark Thirty for a swim session, to follow it up with a dreadmill? Ick! I need to figure out a different plan. Maybe run outside near the gym? Not sure what the sidewalk situation is over there. Other ideas? Has this been a problem? I mean, did he say anything about it or are you feeling guilty? Is running at lunch an option? Regardless, running in the morning in the summer is better anyway -- avoid the worst of the heat. Are there any local running groups that meet in the mornings? Once you get the run handled, perhaps work the swim around it. That's what I was wondering, too. He is SUPER supportive and proud of me for what I do, but he has said a couple things that make me think I need to try a little harder to be conscious of the effect on him. I figured now that I'm not HIM training I should be able to manage it. Hmmm, I think this is quite possibly the biggest issue we all have as regular working class athletes. I think it would be beneficial for you two to sit down and talk about exactly what the expectations and non-negotiables are and strike a compromise. We've actually had that conversation and he really doesn't want to put limits on me, but then he makes comments about traveling that doesn't involve a race (to my defense we do plenty of traveling that doesn't) and he comments to others about how I'm always working or training (which did feel true during HIM training). He's not snide or rude about it, I just don't want to push it that far. I'm trying REALLY hard not to schedule ANY events for June and July but with DS1 having a budding interest in running it's hard. Interestingly, while we were on the bike/wine tour, DH complained about the weight of his bike (we were both on MTB, hence the reason for my spill). There happens to be a bike swap this weekend and I suggested he look at lighter bikes. At first he argued but then agreed to at least look. He wants to get back to riding more and I think a better bike would be a big help. What is his outside interest/hobby? That is part of the problem. He talks about how I have triathlon but he feels like he doesn't have anything. He loves cars and anything motorsports related. We have an outreach at church where he and a bunch of other guys get together once a month and work on cars for single moms and the elderly. When we were in Vegas we went to private showing of one individual's extensive car collection. He loved it! We also went for a drive in the Red Rock area near Vegas. He enjoyed that too as we've always had a good time in areas like Moab. He has a "truck" budget for his car stuff. His ultimate goal is to build a kit Cobra, but he needs waaaay more budget for that (which I'm working on). In one of our discussions about this he talked about how he is realizing that what he's missing is the good times we had when our boys were young (which was usually 4-wheeling). I think we are both in the empty nest syndrome and he needs to figure out where to "plug in" and I need to figure out how to get my bootie out of bed at odarkthirty. Traveling that doesn't involve a race???? What? LOL It's now a joke with us because we talk about San Juan and Cozumel as racations. I'm ok with that for now. It gets us away together and without the kids because full nest syndrome is what we have around here.
While waiting to do our Boston Support Run last week DS1 spotted an IM Los Cabos jacket and he commented that I need to do that one. I assume he thinks he would be in the pit crew. |

Hey girls need nice cycling gear any good brands you like?jogo - 2013-04-22 5:38 AMI have to liven things up. Today is day 21/21 of my reset program and transition to a plant based diet. I went to a vegan festival (oops, wearing a leather coat and leather purse-barely hid away from the PETA people). I went to hear Scott Jurek talk. For those who don't know, he is a plant based ultrarunner that has won Western States 100 7 times.  Very inspiring and quite a character. I bought his book Eat and Run from Amazon because they weren't selling them there (bummer). I may not have got him to autograph my book but I did get a photo. Thanks for this Jo, I have been contemplating heading back in the vegetarian direction. I have come to that conclusion that eating meat 2-3 times a week is too much for me. I might just check out his book. Hey, the other Jo, I came across a website a bit like Amazon the other day it's called fishpond and it had similar stuff on it as Amazon. It's actual book prices are slightly more than Amazon but they don't charge for postage so it turned out to be cheaper, cause Amazon postage to us is normally nearly as much as the books. Anyway thout that I would let you know, the stuff got here quicker than Amazon normally does too. |

I'd be so mad about that. I can hardly stand Coors, let alone that in the place of a summer shandy. I was introduced to shandies only a few years ago. I feel I perfected the "power shandy on the go." 1 part beer, 1 part alcoholic lemonade (like Mike's hard or something) pour in red solo cup, bring to park. Enjoy |

Elite 4435 | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED I just booked 9 days annual leave.... Cairns in June - not racing but meeting up with 30 Macca crew and the man himself. I decided as I am up there I'll volunteer - I've taken the 5-10am shift which I believe will be wetsuit stripping and sunscreen application I have of course asked Macca to get me some kind of VIP ticket so I can schmooze with his missus! Noosa in November - I will go up Thursday night. On Friday there is a swim race 1000m surf swim - I'm in for that, probably come last as it's the guns like Coach Johnny who race in it. But whatever what fun! The actual Triathlon is Sunday - I'm swimming for a team. The Tuesday is a public holiday so I will come back Tuesday. Thailand in Nov/December - Fly in on the Wednesday, Thursday and friday training with Macca and co. Saturday socialising. Sunday a hot humid 70.3, after party which puts all others in the shade apparently! Fly home on Monday! Now the common theme here is that I'm not with DH nor Artemis for any of these BUT I am planning a week-10days in January in New Zealand. We will go watch Macca race in Wanaka then tour around NZ for a week or so. Oh no doubt I'll end up volunteering at that race too. What a big and exciting year I have planned! Last night was piglet Andrew training. Wow I did deadlifts with 40kg. Who knew! Lots of core work last night and swinging of kettle bells. In fact I am now officially a Swinger...mmmm. |
