One main toad has been closed since then. The lake in front of our house is 2 feet shallower that it was before the flood. You stay safe and I hope the storms miss you for a while. Interesting how the lake is shallower. Do you know why? Yes, from all the soil that washed away up stream from us. |

I am intending on picking up my packet on Friday, maybe I can meet up with you all then. Even just to say Hi None of us should intimidate you! Full disclosure: I have met very few in person. But although there are many I-words that I would use for many of the Manatees (such as Inspiring, Impressive, Impertinent, Improper, Ingenious, Imaginative, Intelligent, Interesting, for at least one Indonesian and for myself at least Imperfect) Intimidating is not one of them. Each and all of us are just people with different strengths, but no one is better, worse, above or below. I say don't ever be intimidated by anyone, anywhere. You are just as [Insert I-word here] as anyone else. I really like how you put this, Kirsten. Many of your 'I-words' suit - ingenious, imaginative, impressive. Nicely done! I will try to take my life-long Insecurity and bask in the Manatee Impressiveness. |

I am racing tomorrow as I am doing my first Olympic distance. Just checked the weather forecast and instead of the blue sky's and sun we have had for the last month it is going the be heavy rain. At least I don't have to worry about sun burn and as long as I finish it will be a PB! |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED If anyone was tracking me at IM Calgary 70.3, a few words of explanation--bike course was about 1.5 miles short, possibly closer to 2. Yes, it was a PB, but not by the ridiculous amount that it appears! Add 5-6 minutes to whatever it was (2:34?). Also, very substantial tailwind on the way out (plus slight net downhill) and very substantial headwind on the way in (plus slight net uphill). So splits are ridiculous and it made for a very tough day at the office. I think I went through 40K in (seriously) 1:02:40! Yes, I did negative split the run. Horrid cramps for first five miles; they finally went away and I high-tailed it for the rest. But OMG--5:06 (really more like 5:10-5:11 due to the bike course) was only good for 5th in AG. There are some crazy fast women here! My run was 3rd though despite the cramps, so I was proud of that. |

143 | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED Well done Karen on 5th in your AG. I did mine yesterday, it wasn't fast and it wasn't pretty but I did it and it's a pb as it was my first Olympic. hated every minute of it whilst doing it but loved it at the same time if that makes any sense! It's a great motivator to get some proper training done with structure to it instead of what I have been doing which can only loosely be termed training! Done a race report which is like war and peace and probably rambles on! Edited by tomsimper 2018-07-30 5:52 AM |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED Congrats on the Oly PB! My race report will probably read like War and Peace as well. Still puzzling over what happened to Rover (bike). It felt normal at the time, but when I picked up the bike after the race, noticed the whole front cockpit was tilted down about 30-40 degrees past where it usually is. Thought maybe a screw had come loose (there was some very rough pavement in sections; lots of people flatted, one guy's disc wheel fell off!) but it doesn't feel loose, just wrong. WTF? If it did happen gradually during the race, doubt it would have affected bike speed (it would have made me very, very aero) but possibly could have contributed to the cramping! |

The yellow one above is the Lake Logan Half. Secondly, the Sprint and International course *are* flat at fast. The Lake Logan Half crosses valleys, thus the climbing. Now, I've gotta of and find that post... |
