Will check back in later. Thought I would show you my new  $2 swim friend. J made him for me after his coaching last week. Needs some tape still, but used today and helped right away. (I know, I know. All you fishy people are rolling your eyes and asking what took me so long )

Well, speaking of weird training tools... I'll take your PVC pipe and raise you.... a ping pong ball

Sure I've seen that being used in a bar in Bangkok.

GMTA ... Grotty Minds Think Alike you just don't beat around the bush with it ... see what I did there Dazzers?

So ANYHOW, I've got a good post-ride workout buzz going on.  Liking TrainerRoad so far after the first couple rides!

Two great things happened on my run this morning (well 3 if you count the fact that I actually did it):
1. I had no knee pain at all, not even a twinge; and
2. For the first time ever I averaged under the 9:00 km pace (ok all you speedy people can stop laughing now I know it's not fast, but for me it is).

Oh and for all you No Sugar, No Grain and full on Paleo Diet people I made the most beautiful lemon chicken the other night. I am having the left overs for lunch with salad today and I am already salivating over it and it's only 9am. If you want it the recipe is in my log.

Have a great day!

I may have to check that out Stacey...though right now, I am kinda anti-chicken....thats what I get for eating WAYYYYY too much of mostly chicken for 3 days straight...Now I've moved on to ground beef...though I do plan on marinating a Flank Steak tomorrow night and hooking up an awesome Pot Roast on Monday--....I was going to on Saturday, but then I remembered I have a silly little 1/2 marathon on Saturday night...I realy need to keep remembering that or else I think it may go poorly.

so I am not really technically supposed to weigh myself for this challenge, but I was too dang curious and did this morning...I am down 6 pounds since Saturday---crazy! Also, my face has noticeably thinned out, and there is a tiny bit less of me every where else. Maybe there is something to this 'no sugar' stuff...

Great job Kate. Are you doing no grains as well or just no sugar?

When I was being good I was losing about 1-2 pounds a week. For the last 5 weeks I haven't been sticking to it and I have put back on about 5 pound. Very silly of me to be so bad, especially when I really didn't enjoy the chocolate and potato chips that I was eating.

If you get stuck for ideas there is a good website I found called paleocupboard.com which has some good stuff on it including a really really nice banana waffle recipe. We are having Salmon fish cakes tonight so I will let you know how they go.

Replaced my entry level road bike with a nicer road bike for racing. Not quitting Triathlon but I am going to focus on bike for a little while and do some bike races.

First off, we are still waiting for a picture of your actual bike!

Secondly, the competitive cyclists in my area recommend yoga for improved flexibility so that you can really get down into the drops. It's a good thing that you found a yoga class that you like!

Man, am I looking forward to vacation in 2 weeks!  The past month has been very trying/busy/crazy caring for Dad, taking him to appointments, helping him with meals, grocery shopping, helping him with everything while trying to keep after my own life (with limited success).  Thank heavens I'm getting some help from my sister, boo to my brother for not doing his part.  Then again, that's kind of how he is, sadly.  I'll cut the out of state brother some slack, since, after all, he is out of state.   Thank heavens for a job that allows for family sick time and for a flexible schedule.  I honestly don't know what I'd do if I didn't have the work flexibility that I do.  Thanks for letting me vent a little, we now return to your normal broadcasting schedule.

Good on you for taking care of your father.  It's weird (and tough) when our parents get to that age and we become caregivers, but that's what family is for!

I'm sure you've earned your vacation time though  I have a little longer wait til it's my vacation time, but I haven't done anything particularly taxing , so I guess I can wait!

Good for you for helping with your dad, Melanie.  And yes, boo to your non-helping out brother.  I hope the next 2 weeks go quickly but your vacation goes slowly!

As for my race, in addition to coming back from surgery it's also supposed to be hot as shyte.

We just got this e-mail:

"we will be providing as much help as we can for the 5k, 10K and steeplechase events.  We will have the following:
2 water tables
sponges soaked in ice cold water
a mister
some ice at the water tables

In addition, I think it would be wise ice your head during the longer races.  The best way to do this is to have a baseball cap or visor to hold an ice-filled sandwich bag with crushed ice in it.  We will have sandwich bags and ice available but are asking you to bring your own ballcap.  We puncture several holes in the sandwich bag if you want to squeeze cold water on your head during the race.
Secondly, be cautious in your warm up time.  When the temperatures hit the upper 80s and low 90s, the temperature in the air and on the track can easily exceed 100 degrees.  At one national championship at Hayward field, I recorded a track temperature of 103, when the high for the day was "only" 85. "

The good news is they are making all the stops to help us out. But it's going to be a tough evening!

Also, I had visions of some sort of chippendale type of dude did when I read "mister"

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
