The yellow one above is the Lake Logan Half. Secondly, the Sprint and International course *are* flat at fast. The Lake Logan Half crosses valleys, thus the climbing. I just thought it was funny because you think Boulder. Hills. Lots of climbing. Not. Here's the quote Lisa mentioned: "For me, Lake Logan in western NC is the best race I know of. Best swim venue you will find, somewhat flat bike with some hills to challenge you and a run beside the river that feeds the lake. " The other (original) Lake Logan comment was: "Lake Logan Half in NC. Beautiful. Stunning. " |

If it weren't for that pesky altitude thing it would be an easy race I guess the person who thinks LL is somewhat flat comes from the Alps! |

I'm not sure how the altitude is going to affect me but hopefully training in the TX heat will offset at least some of the effects. |

I am mentally preparing to climb Mt Everest on Saturday We have quite a few in my tri-club who do Lake Logan every year and love it. Another up in that same area is Mountains to Main Street and has an extra 300 feet of climbing compared to Lake Logan. My coach raced it for the first time this year and he said it was the hardest bike he's ever done. He also mentioned it would be a great spring half iron race for someone who is aiming for IM LOU next year. Uhhhh...I'm sure he meant another of his athletes, right? Big news on the streets in Augusta is that 7 weeks and 6 days prior to raceday, the course has changed!!! I was able to ride it yesterday as our club hosts an event called "Ride for a Reason" which is co-sponsored by Tri Coach Georgia's Augusta 70.3 camp. The course is NOT rideable without law enforcement support (we had 4 sheriff deputies on motorcycles keeping us safe), but it's definitely a MUCH faster course once you get past the first SIX train track crossings in the first 4 miles. :D Edited by glfprncs 2018-07-30 4:25 PM |

I am mentally preparing to climb Mt Everest on Saturday Really? I've heard terrible things about the way M2M is organized. After another bad report card this year, I was so glad that I did Kinetic! That being said, I could perhaps be convince to do the Swamp Rabbit HM. Big news on the streets in Augusta is that 7 weeks and 6 days prior to raceday, the course has changed!!! Was there some sort of traffic control (in SC) reason to change the course? It seems like maybe not if the replacement *requires* traffic control. That's just nuts. |

Was there some sort of traffic control (in SC) reason to change the course? It seems like maybe not if the replacement *requires* traffic control. That's just nuts. There are a handful of reasons for the course change, but the two biggest are: 1. Because the 'old' course is so cyclist friendly, it received a LOT of use by cyclists throughout the year. Two local bike shops use parts of the route for twice weekly rides throughout the summer plus you get all the triathletes. There were quite a few disgruntled people, who then became angry people, who then started making death threats on social media. I stopped riding out there a few years ago because of one too many close calls, bottles thrown at me or my riding partners, etc. 2. The city of Augusta adds a surcharge to the race fee (which is why it's the most expensive IM branded HIM). The host hotel is in Augusta, it's downtown, so many of the downtown Augusta restaurants are busy that weekend. In fact, from what I've heard, Augusta 70.3 weekend is the 2nd biggest money making weekend for the city (2nd to tournament weekend of the Master's Tournament). However, 56 of the 70.3 miles takes place over the river in Aiken County, South Carolina. They weren't reaping any benefit except a lot of irritated homeowners who couldn't get to or from church on Sunday morning. The new course uses two 4-lane, high traffic roads (Gordon Highway and Mike Padgett Highway) that I would NEVER ride my bike on other than with police support. The old course did use a section of Sand Bar Ferry Rd. which is also a 4-lane, but it has very light traffic. It's unfortunate, as the old course was quite pretty. It meandered through pretty farmlands in horse country. The new route takes you past the paper plant (which stinks!) and a heavy manufacturing area. The one cool aspect is riding the road behind the airport while the planes were taking off and landing overhead. Edited by glfprncs 2018-07-30 7:33 PM |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED OMG the woman who won my AG (45-49) at Calgary did 4:40! Seriously?! (You should add about 5 minutes to the times due to the bike course, but still, 4:45 would win Worlds most of the time.) I really picked the wrong race to qualify or podium, I guess. On the plus side, I wasn't far off the podium, about 3 minutes behind 3rd. |

I did mine yesterday, it wasn't fast and it wasn't pretty but I did it and it's a pb as it was my first Olympic. hated every minute of it whilst doing it but loved it at the same time if that makes any sense! It's a great motivator to get some proper training done with structure to it instead of what I have been doing which can only loosely be termed training! Done a race report which is like war and peace and probably rambles on! Congratulations! I know exactly what you mean. Love Hate and everything in between. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED Originally posted by Hot Runner If anyone was tracking me at IM Calgary 70.3, a few words of explanation--bike course was about 1.5 miles short, possibly closer to 2. Yes, it was a PB, but not by the ridiculous amount that it appears! Add 5-6 minutes to whatever it was (2:34?). Also, very substantial tailwind on the way out (plus slight net downhill) and very substantial headwind on the way in (plus slight net uphill). So splits are ridiculous and it made for a very tough day at the office. I think I went through 40K in (seriously) 1:02:40! Yes, I did negative split the run. Horrid cramps for first five miles; they finally went away and I high-tailed it for the rest. But OMG--5:06 (really more like 5:10-5:11 due to the bike course) was only good for 5th in AG. There are some crazy fast women here! My run was 3rd though despite the cramps, so I was proud of that. Wow, great job, Karen! Your speed and tenacity always impress! |

Hey It could be a Manatee Meetup! We may or may not have some of our kids there. Janyne It might be hard to find a Mediterranean restaurant where the owner tells everyone they are ordering the wrong thing and then tells them to order something else.
