Been absent the past few days as we were away for Canada Day weekend.  Before heading off I got in my longest ride of the season at just under 120km, and managed to average out at right around 81% for just under 4 hours, which I was pretty happy about.  Admittedly the legs were fried for the last 10km and had nothing left to offer, but considering I hadn't ridden that far this year, I'm still happy with it.

Good morning!

So, i am training away.  I can't believe we are getting down the crunch time before Ironman! eeeks! I am alternating between super excited and very nervous.  But in all seriousness it's going well.  It's actually seeming possible and I am feeling good. I'll be slow but i have reasonable expectations for the day.

This weekend I have a half-iron tune-up race so hopefully that's another good confidence booster. It's a mass start so that will be perfect for working out my swim related jitters. Thankfully, I also start the next round of coached swim group - there was a two week gap between sessions and my swim volume was horrible!

Jen - are you racing Peterborough?  Should be a good tune up for IMMT.  Best of luck.

x2 Jen Good luck - and be careful this weekend!

Meh, I live in Los Angeles, millions of skinny roadies.  I have resigned myself to never getting a KOM outside of my driveway.

Bumping a post from yesterday, 910 came in yesterday, gonna use it for today's run.  Any tips and tricks over the 305 I should be aware of, or is it basically the same with more swim features?

Chris - i don't have one, so no pointers from me, but I would be interested in hearing what data folks have their workout screens set to. I have a 310xt that I use for tri races and ultra running and a 610 that I use for run training and racing up to marathon distance.

On both I have 3 screens: one shows overall time, HR, pace (I know, it is useless) and distance. On the second screen I have lap time, HR, pace, and lap distance. On the third screen I have the time of day, just because I got tired of trying to explain to folks that stopped me mid-workout to ask what time it is that I didn't know because this $400 computer on my wrist was not smart enough to tell me...

That is awesome.  I had one guy look at me like i was nuts one day because i was outside waiting for someone. I don't remember if it was before or after a run but I didn't have the Garmin turned on.  When i said no, i couldn't tell him the time he just looked down at the giant 'watch' on my wrist and seemed really confused! hahahaha.

Chris, I have the 310, same as Rusty - and it is very helpful to set up multiple screens.  I am not sure if this happened with the 305 because i didn't have multiple bikes then is that you can set up multiple bikes.  For me this helps because I have my tri bike with 650 wheels (Bike 1) so when i ride the trainer it tracks it properly vs my road bike 700s (Bike 2).  Otherwise, the features are very similar. I don't have the 910 so i can't comment on the indoor swim features.

Yes, I am.  Hopefully it's not too hot!  Are you racing Neil?

I honestly have no idea how I will do - i really don't know what the bike course is like and how the heat will play out for the run.  We'll see.  It's a tune up but i would definitely like to do better than my Muskoka from a couple of years ago.

Group ride today...bring your kleenex!!!

What is everyone doing for the 4th?  Likely just going to grill some turkey burgers...nothing special.  But will definately ride in the morning.  Not sure how far, or how much climbing though.

Have fun on the group ride Jason - Just please don't offend anyone or make them them feel bad about themselves. not sure what we are doing tomorrow, tentatively a 1 hour OWS, then some sort of ride 2.5 hour hard interval ride I think, then most likely laying low at the lake. I am a week away from starting my taper for IMLP, so laying low sounds pretty good to me right now.

We should put up a poll of the most helpful posters of all time with people's ability to add. People like Jorge, TJ, Shane.....Bryan.....get all the names up there, get people to vote for their favorite. I would bet 70-80% of the names are no longer active.

Probably some of the names that should be, won't be there, just because newbies don't know them.

Rudy, do you race with a power meter ? If so, what % of FTP did you did that race ?

No, but if i had to guestimate i would say first lap was about 95% avg of 1 hr power or 320W and 2nd loop was 85% or about 280W.  I am pretty sure i was in the area of about 300W average for the ride, based on my weight, terrain, wind and such.

it is a guess, but i bet it is pretty close +/- 10W

lets put it this way, i felt better off the bike at Patriot going 2:18 than i did at Quassy going 2:45

But weren't you begging for an implosion on the run ? Even if your run fitness would have been great ....95% on the 1st hr....yikes.

Isn't that like being in great marathon shape, sprinting the first half and blowing up on the 2nd ?

that is the funny thing, i never imploded.  I felt great till my IT band locked up, i was running fine at my speedtastic 8:30-9:00 pace.

The IT flared up 2 weeks prior to the race, i did not run those two weeks, then went and did another HIM. By mile 4 i had a hard time straightening out my leg to run.  never had muscle fatigue, never cramped. the rest of the muscular support system then took the load and that is where it got ugly.  to the point that i have 2 different injuries right now, that were created from finishing the race, both in the left leg.

I guess that could be called an implosion, but i think i had exterior support failure, that resulted in injury. If i cramped or felt tired or whatever, then i could see that, but i was never any of those things, i was just in pain.

Wow.

Going out at 95%, what kind of saddle accommodates balls that size ?

I had not read the race report. It is great. Tons of respect !

. Yes he has balls. It's fun to experiment with what effort you can hold etc. I am going to ride long tomorrow on the TT bike and see what I can hold for 4+ hours. Probably will blow up, but I will start the first 30' easier.

"Yeah, , that came from someone who sucks on the bike and wants to feel better about their crap bike speeds and efforts"

Sorry...couldn't resist...  Sounds like a great way to kick of the 4th though.  Being that fireworks are a trademark of the 4th, we should all do a workout where we try to "blow up".  JK

Ever feel like you're just doomed to not have the ride your dreaming of?

Morning boyfriend obligations, then tri spectating obligations got in the way of my early rides over the weekend. Daytime means heat and limited options due to traffic. 40-60% chance of rain in the forecast for tomorrow morning. Not that it'll stop me, but it'll stop my riding buddies, and it'll move me from a fun, hilly, curvy ride to a flatter, safer ride...

We do need the rain, though, and it smells beautiful!

It will happen. One day, I will be up with the sun, and ride many glorious miles in the early morning sunshine through all of the hills and technical descents I can handle.

Maybe if the weather is crap, I'll just join my boyfriend on his MTB ride instead. Just don't be surprised if I'm back here tomorrow posting pictures of Elaine vs. Cactus.

. I think Jorge is trying to avoid deportation these days. I think he has a hearing in the next month that determines whether he stays in the USA or not. True story.

Really????  Wow, I had no idea.  He put together my HIM plan last year.  I had just assumed he got tierd of constantly posting to BT and was focusing more on his coaching business around Boston.
