No 10K tomorrow. The orthotics have eased the pain of a Morton' neuroma. That's good. The muscle soreness brought on by the realignment in the lower legs isn't good. I can't run long or fast at all.

Guess I will stick to the bike and swim for the duration. And sailing. Love Saturdays. Get a workout in the morning and play for the rest of the day. Have lunch at the world renown Cafe Savannah. Seize the day.

Have fun this weekend and good luck to those competing.

Glad the orthotics are helping; hopefully the legs will adjust soon.  In the meantime, enjoy your weekend.  Sounds lovely!

I hope everyone had a great weekend (ok so it's only Jo's, Yanti's and mine that is over already). They never go long enough.

Does anyone know anyway to check the speed and distance accuracy of a treadmill?

I did my long run outside today and even though I kept telling myself to take it easy and slow down I got into a groove and it just felt really good (not totally easy, but good) and so much better than running on the treadmill. Anyway when I got home I had run at an average speed of 7:28/km for my 7ks which is over 1:30 quicker than the fastest I've managed on the treadmill.

It got me thinking that maybe the speed and distance functions on my treadmill are way off, because really can a crisp, sunny winters day make that much of a difference?

Yes, and treadmills change your stride, and you can't quite change your pace/stride as easily and smoothly as you would on a road. They need to be re-calibrated from time to time, too. Ones in gyms that aren't can be waaaay off, including on time not just pace. I don't know crap about how treadmills are maintained/calibrated (only actual SPINNER(R) bikes) so maybe someone else can comment too ...

The changes in stride on a treadmill can vary a lot from one person to the next. I think it may lessen as they develop as a runner and also as they get used to the perspective. There may always be *slight* differences, but should get to plenty similar to help develop. The calibration can be a biggie on pacing. Just because something displays a number does not mean it is correct! I'm lucky with the workplace gym in that the guy running it knows his stuff. Always obtains and maintains good equipment. The paces correspond very well for me and are consistent between runs. Other gyms not so much. Sometimes I'll get a on a treadmill that seems closer to km/hr! I don't know specifics of the calibration procedure, but it does have to be done. Footpods working with your watch can be used to help this, but I don't have experience with them.

Great to hear Jo, I hope it keeps up for you. Have you started planning any racing for summer (they say it will eventually get here at some point)?

Way to represent Salty! WOOT!

Ann Marie- looking forward to you RR!!

Yesterday I set out to do an OWS with a few people. Got to the lake and it was REALLY choppy. Um, no thanks. Got about 50 yards out and said "see ya later." I ended up staying close to shore just doing laps back and forth along the buoy line. I swear I don't know how I didn't lose my breakfast. And THAT is why I don't do ocean swims. Well, that and salt water and jellyfish

We play hard and today I'm yawning as if I didn't sleep 8 hours

Have a good day!

Funny, I would much rather swim in the ocean than a lake.  Of course, Florida lakes are gross and have gators and snakes and brain eating amoebas!!

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
