New user 5 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Shermbelle - 2010-08-17 5:44 PMI just went through DaysInn.com and booked the Super 8 Couer D Alene off I90. I don't think it is on the hotels list for CDA and I got two queens for $90 a night. It was about $15 less than expedia wanted for it. The nice thing is no prepayment and can cancel up to the night before with no penalty. Thank you so much for this!! Got on the phone with them this morning and made my reservation |

The ironman website had pages for rentals, but they were all blank. Will need to sleep 4. I'm thinking Tuesday to Tuesday. How high is the elevation at CDA? Will I need some time to get acclemated? |

I'll have to read them another time. So I just signed up minutes ago. All the hype about it selling out by the end of the week got me a little nervous. I already missed Lake Placid. This will be my first IM. Looking forward to getting to know you all a little better over the next several months. Kelly Welcome to the group, are you a fellow MIchigander? Yep, from the west side. Cool me too! |

Champion 7347 SRQ, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hey guys. My wife and I both pulled the trigger yesterday. You can always say this is not the right time to do it but finally you just have to commit at some point. It will be the first IM for both of us. And a bonus, my best friend who lives in San Fran also signed up (once he heard we were doing it he could not resist). Have not seen him in over a year so we're stoked about the three of us doing this together. Been wanting to do an IM since I was a kid watching ABC's wide world of sports and seeing guys like Mark Allen & Dave Scott battle it out. Like most of you I get chills every year watching the NBC coverage. The wife got into them about 2-3 years ago. Even the 9 year old has done some kid sprints. The 1.5 year old shows no interest Being from FL I could not stand the thought of doing an IM here (while it has it's pros this is quite a boring state scenery wise). When I got back into tris about 5 years ago I always wanted to do IMCdA. Just looks so beautiful. I figure if I'm suffering I might as well have something majestic to look at. So that's our story. Now off to find some "hills" to train on in a state where the maximum elevation is 345 feet Edited by TriRSquared 2010-08-19 7:50 AM |

I am in the same boat here in Virginia Beach - no hills to train on. We do what we can. I look forward to racing with you next June! |

Veteran 227 Brentwood, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread TriRSquared, After living in FL for 17 years I can definitelly feel for you on finding hills. I trained for IMLP while living in Tampa and while I get IMCdA has hills, IMLP has mountains! I now live in Middle TN, so finding hills is not a problem. I did alot of training in San Antonio and Clarmont. Look to ride the course of the FL challenge full iron floridachallenge.com... even harder, do the half iron course twice. You will get all 345 ft of elevation several times during that ride. Another good ride is cure on wheels in late May (cureonwheels.com). Good cause, challenging course with alot of long gradual climbs. They also post their course, so just doing the course without the ride is possible. For both courses, I reccomend having a support vehicle, there is VERY little (see NOTHING) out on the roads, it is COUNTRY... No 7-11's or anything on either course. All that said, I went from being a traditionally strong rider in flat FL races (1:00:42 bike pr at St. A's in 2008) to being pretty humbled in IMLP (6:06 with a 15 min flat change). Good luck! Happy heat training! |

Veteran 227 Brentwood, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Ooops Trirsquared, I actually looked at the CureonWheels page and they changed the date and the course. Looks like they ride in Flatwoods now, not nearly as difficult. If you go to San Antonio I think they have a ride every Sunday that leaves at like 7 or 8 from the 7-11. If you look or ask on the FL BT boards people will give you details, that is a very established ride. |

Member 47 Biddeford, Maine | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I see lots of discussion regarding accomodations. Someone suggested Blackwell Island for RVs, I talked to someone from the 2010 race and he said it worked out great staying there. About half of the people there were doing the race. That is where we will be "setting up camp". Edited by charlesmoss 2010-08-19 10:50 AM |

I have to re-read the whole thread but off the top, did anyone know where the best place for kids to stay was? For the first time, I am bringing the little slayers and their mama along with me (5,8,11). Mama Slayer says to just stay at the resort but the prices were ridic! Master 1332 Vista, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I think I'd like to rent a house or condo while we're there. We're tacking on a few days afterwards for some vacation time (not sure what kind of shape I'll be in for it). Any recommendations from you veterans of IMCDA as a real estate co. or personal recommendations? Appreciate it. Living here in SoCA, we have an abundance of hills and mountains, so no problem training them here. Oceanside 70.3 is April 1st this year and a good tune up for IM CDA. Just my 2-cents. |

Extreme Veteran 396 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I looked alot at rentals and hotels last night. Many of the less expensive rentals are booked and as far as I could tell the main resort is booked as well. I was very shocked to see many of the houses triple thier rent price for ironman week. I guess they know they got us. I was planning on a week with my family, so far I booked a room at the super 8 Thursday - Monday at $90 a night. |

Master 5557 , California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread A lot of the hotels will jack their rates up to 200+/night if they haven't already for ironman week. So in that respect, the house prices kind of balance out. If you got a room for 90/night, that's a smokin deal. |

I just booked a site on Blackwell Island for $50ish per night. It's a mile or so from downtown, so can't get much more convenient than that! Edited by Shermbelle 2010-08-20 7:26 AM |

Regular 171 Madison, AL | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread No kidding. Had been planning on staying at CDAResort for the night of the event or two. I was checking their website about once a week to see when those rooms would become available to rent, and the last time I looked (this morning) they were sold out for the weekend. Most of the hotels within walking distance are already sold out as well. Guess I'll have to backpedal a bit and figure out where to stay. Found some condo's available at arrowpoint, but that seems like a bit of a drive and would make race-day cheering difficult for the fam. Arghh!!! Would my wife and kids be able to drop me off day of race watch the start, go home have lunch maybe take a nap, then come back for the end of bike? Is getting to/from the transition area via car impossible on raceday? All questions I ponder... |

Is getting to/from the transition area via car impossible on raceday? Yes, but they will need to be smart about where they park. There are several parking lots and areas that are impossible to leave once the race starts until after the bike cut-off. However, there are other areas that are easy to come and go all day long. In general, if you park to the north of downtown you should be ok. You should be able to get parking advise once you hit town. |

The CDA resort usually books up the day of the prior years event and they have a minimum stay of 5 nights. I did the resort in 2007 cause it was my 1st IM and I wanted my family (inc my mom for whom walking around can be challenging) to have somewhere super close to chill. That being said I wouldn't stay there again. Way too expensive for the proximity. I like the Hampton Inn (but I heard it's already sold out), the Holiday Inn Express is also really nice off NW Blvd. |
