Water temp should be in upper 60's so your choice. Whatever you feel most comfortable in.

Subject: Question for those of you who live near B2B....
I am going to be in my final peak week pre-taper for Ironman Louisville the weekend we are at the beach (Kure Beach, NC - near Wilmington.)  I rode around the island last summer but it is deadpan flat.  I'm looking for somewhere I can do some hills.  Also looking for either a place I can master swim as a guest or do some lap swimming.  Thanks!

you are not going to find any hills around. You could get some wind, but no hills.

Pretty much 3 pools. Wilmington AC (private club, but they could let you swim for a fee), YMCA which is a good bet I would think. They have a tri team at the Y and do have set times for Tri team swim practice, so maybe they would let you jump into one or two of those. There is also the YWCA. You are going to have to drive 25-35min from Kure to get to any of those pools.

I'm sure there's very very little chance of this, but if anyone has a room at the Hilton that's a double, I would love to trade you for my king.  Trying to help out a friend that's racing and doesn't have anywhere to stay.  Thanks!

Eventhough I'm just doing the half, I'll chime in...

I'm accumulating a decent # of rides 75-100/mi, and swim volume is decent, not great, but my running really stinks.. I haven't done a brick in I can't remember how long! Just too danged hot. I'm kind of thinking ahead to BoneIsland more than specifically prepping for B2B...

For you folks doing the full, push->shove...Good luck with your training!

Don't say "just doing the half".  You're just as important.

My weekend consisted of 70 miles in Cartersville (hill work for me), 90 minute run, and 45 swim.  I"m a little tired today.

Working on a bike focus right now since I'm a little slow due to lack of strength.  Been doing some good hill work.  I've got about 5 50-60 milers, and 2-3 60-80 milers so far.  Covington Century this weekend!

I've just started ramping up in volume, and I'm starting to feel a little tired.  WIll have to work in more sleep time for sure.

Just signed up for the half. One of my friends has done the half before and said they are coming down to cheer and be our personal taxi before and after the race. She said that I can drop my bike off at t2 the night before the race and that I do not have to go back to t2 in the morning. If I do this, should I pour some gatorade in my aero bottle that night or keep it in my t2 bag and then pour the gatorade bottle into my aero bottle while I am transitioning. Probably take 30 seconds to do. I don't mind drinking somewhat warm gatorade.

Your bike should be dropped at T1, which is where you pick up the shuttle to the swim start and get on the bike after the swim.  You might want to check the air in your tire in the am, but you ceartainly don't have to.  Last year I think I filled my aero bottle the night before just in case I forgot.  Good Luck!  It's a great race!

What kind of cold weather gear do you guys wear on the bike leg of the race? I was thinking of putting on a underarmour cold gear compression long sleeve since I already own one or would I be better off buying arm warmers instead? Also should I not wear a tri top under my wetsuit so that I am not riding on the bike with a cold wet tri top? Thinking of drying off a little and then putting on a top before hopping on the bike. What have you guys done in the past? This is for the half.

Last year was definitely cold, windy and wet.  I did the full, but I can't imagine I would have wore anythig different for the half.  I wore an under armour cold gear sleeveless under a bike jersey that I put on dry in T1.  Due to the temperature, I wanted to at least have dry stuff for the start of the ride.  I did wear my tri shorts for the entire race.  Then I used arm warmers, which I was able to take off when the sun came out (much later in the day).  I wish I would have put on the leg warmers that I had in my transition bag, but I didn't think it would be that cold.  It was!!!

During the time of year this race falls, you should be prepared for about any weather.  Have a plan for hot, cold and perfect weather.  Then make yuor decisions right before you have to turn your bags in at the transition areas.

Are there going to be change tents available for those running the 1/2?  I am a "complete the race" guy and would wear bike shorts for the ride and then running shorts for the run if I had somewhere to change.

If you can't get into the changing tent, you might be able to run into the Convention Center(T2) and use the bathroom for a quick swap-out.

Subject: Bottle Exchanges?

Does anyone know if B2B has bottle exhanges, or is that left to the special needs bags? I've done HIM races where there were bottle exchanges (give an empty, get a full), but not sure if this is as common in the Iron distance races?

Thanks!

Tim

on the full you get to pick up as many water bottles as you want at each aid station 9about 15 miles apart). No exchange required, but if you want to dump empty bottles be sure to do so within the trash zone.

Haven't seen it on the thread, I back pedaled through....this is the inlet for Cherry Grove Beach just north of Myrtle ....and not to far south from Wilmington. I won't be the lead swimmer for sure..praying I wont be the last :-)

The long hours have started showing up for the weekend rides. Who has what on tap for the weekend?

On a different note, has anyone figured out why we do this yet? I've come to realize that I enjoy it, but I can't figure out why?Wink

I'm actually in a recovery week, only 4 hr. bike, 30 run, with Saturday off so I can do my USAT official duties.   I hate the short weeks.  I can only imagine how bad this taper is going to be.

Hi all,

I am signed up for the half this year and am getting very excited!!  Now if only the dreaded plantar fasciitis would go away so I could run....

Quick question for anyone who has done the race before.  Is the shuttle from T1 to the start for athletes only, or can family ride too?

Looking forward to a fun race!

Karen

The shuttle to swim start is only for the athletes. That is how it was last year.
