project manager is the worse because you AREN'T his boss at all.  i'm debating taking a PM job here and situations like this one are making me hesitate.

Serious question; in 25 words or less, what is the real world working difference between a Project Manager and a Program Manager.

If a project is so big that you need to have multiple project managers to manage portions, the PM who oversees all is managing a Program, not a Project.

But wouldn't it be one project with multiple programs within said project?

1 book, many chapters

Depending on where you work, some PMs are director level.  In our organization you don't dare screw with a PM running a strategic project.  Bad things man.. bad things.

the technical answer is a program is comprised of multiple projects, but in practicality the terms are interchangeable.

In my mind, a program is something that is sustaining/continuous.  A project is one and done.  For example, a marketing program is something that has no real end and keeps evolving.  Another example, the space program was a constant evolution or research and development of space exploration and travel.  A project (in my world) is something that once it's built, you never think about it again. A project within the space program would be developing the rover.  Once it's built and on the ground taking pictures, it's over.

As for a project that needs managers under it?  Again, in my world, would be a division manager.  I used to be in charge of several PE's that managed their own projects that I would have little involvement day to day other problem solving or client relations.  (plus had some of my own projects).

I am going with the PMI definitions of the two.  Obviously the semantics and job titles of every independent workplace are different.

Morning TAN!
Slightly awkward run-in with the ex at a kettlebell/conditioning class last night. Did the same weight as him, and kicked his butt. I feel pretty good about myself.

My quads hurt today. So many squats.

Morning TAN

It should be against the law to allow garbage trucks to pick up dumpsters in a residential area at 1:40am, 3:30am and again at 5am.

Today will be sponsored by coffee and drugs.  Yay!!

Training our bodies to work efficiently in Zone 2 will help us keep our HR and pace even throughout an Ironman. This theory would hold true for the bike and run portion of an Ironman race.
