My residency applications have been officially submitted! Have to wait until mid December to find out if/where I will interview across Canada. Melissa may be coming to a neighborhood near you in the new year (if you live in Canada anyways...). It will be kind of cool to get to "run across" Canada do to speak!! Crossed fingers!

axteraa - 2012-11-22 12:22 PM In honour of our American friends, tonight my wife and I ate pie and ice cream.  You know... to show our support or something...

Can you swim 5k for me to...you know...to show your support?  Not that I'm going to swim 5k today.  I did go for a ride and decided to do a coupld of climbs.  One was about 2.5 miles at 7.3%.  Mashing would be an understatement.

Well I will be in the pool at 5:30am tomorrow which will still be today for you.  I'll see what I can do.

I just looked at your ride on Strava.  It's amazing how flat everything seems to be if you stick to the outside of the island but it goes vertical in a hurry as soon as you head inland!

Yeah, when I first started riding I stuck to the major roads with shoulders and bike lanes.  Pretty much dead flat with the occasional roller.  Then you start venturing up the residential ridges and you can really climb as much as you want.

Remember my Powertap woes from last week?  Well it turns out I'm just an idiot.  I hadn't gotten around to calling them yet because I wanted to double check that I hadn't done something stupid first so this morning I took everything apart again and was going to reseat it.  When I opened it up my first thought was "those batteries don't look right...".  Flipped them over and voila.  Glad I didn't call them.  Embarassed

I hope everyone is recovering well from any turkey induced comas.

Today's high is 74 and I am off work.  I might actually take a bike into the actual outdoors.  *gasp*  Probably mountain bike though as I have been wanting to hit the trails for a while now

Ha ha. I worked tech support for years and that was always my number one question to callers

Glad you got it working AND didn't face embarrassment on the phone

Sally - congratulations, that is awesome! The only trouble is that now your mom thinks you win all the time - I don't think I could live up to the pressure... I have had lots of experience duking it out to the finish on the run, but doing on the swim must have been crazy - what was that like - could you keep your eye on her at the turns at least?

Took the day off yesterday to enjoy american thanksgiving with my in-laws, which consists of great food, a few too many cocktails, and then yelling at the TV while the Detroit Lions snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Truly a great family tradition exercised all over the state of Michigan every November.

This morning went for a base run - the temps were not too bad (30-ish) but the wind was stead 25-30 mph off Lake Michigan and gusting to 50mph. Oh, and it was snowing and sleeting sideways. So a sincere tip-o-the hat to my northern brethren. I really don't mind training in the cold, but then again I don't have to do it day in and day out through the winter like many of you. Can't believe I was cycling in a summer kit just two days ago... Stay warm out there people.

That is essentially the forecast for here on Sunday (minus Lake Michigan).  Maybe not quite that windy but gross nonetheless.

Nope, I just assumed she would pass me at some point as she is an ITU racer. The pool was clustered bec the men started earlier than us, the only time I knew she was right behind me was when my husband screamed at me on one of the turns. And I am sure my mom will exaggerate my victory.... I think I will retire now

I got to run in shorts and t-shirt on Thursday - this morning there's snow on the ground (not much) and windy.  TRainer season is upon us.

Yeah I went for a 40' run in that and got pelted in the eyes with the sideways snow...definitely needed some eye protection. Surprisingly I did not see anyone else out running!

It's funny, the more I run the more I want to run.  As in just running.  Perhaps when I move from this one street town that attitude might change, as in maybe it is the location that is causing that and not the running itself.  But for now I am going to go with it.  I am slowly bringing my miles up and the body (minus the foot) is feeling pretty good.

Been super busy, hope you guys are well.  I have a job offer down in a much sunnier climate.  I'm still haggling, but I am probably going to accept.  December will be a lot of boxing stuff up and getting ready to rent out my place.

A sunnier climate sounds exciting!

I had a 17 km run today.  The forecast was calling for a 30% chance of showers.  Well, it rained 100% of the run, I was completely drenched by the time I got home.  At least it was 10 degrees C so I wasn't cold.

Hope everyone is having a good Saturday.

The Grand Canyon hike sounds like fun, have you done that before?

I was in the pool this morning for a crazy mix of drills, some vertical kicking and tethered swimming.  I have an easy 35 min run on tap for later today, likely right after work.

This will be my first time going down to the floor.  Should be a good time, until Tina gives me all the gear to carry out.  lol  I think this is actually the first time I am going backpacking that doesn't involve snow.  Usually there is some mountaineering involved.

Hey team - i have been very quiet lately and not doing a ton of training. I do have news to share though.  I am expecting an ironbaby.    We said we would try after Ironman but i never dreamed it would happen so quickly - i am 12 weeks this week.  It means I am due in June next year and the next year's race season will be a wash ...

I would really love any tips and experience on keeping active both during pregnancy and after the baby comes.  I am swimming and running a bit but not being terribly consistent.

Congratulations.  Big news indeed.  I recall reading someone's blog when they were pregnant...forget who's, and I know towards the end swimming was a focus.  It was the one thing she could do with no real issues.  Lots of walking too, although I am not sure when she stopped running.

Oh and the Grand Canyon sounds amazing - it's definitely on my bucket list!

Congratulations Jen!  I would definitely ask your doctor about working out.  I know they want you to keep your heart rate relatively low so light running/biking/swimming can be doable especially since you are already fit and your body is use to it....but each doctor seems to have their own guidelines.

Thanksgiving was kind of low key this year with just a couple get togethers so was able to train without interruption.

Had a good bike/run Saturday and hard run and hockey yesterday.  My quads are definitely feeling the hurt today...hopefully they recover for tomorrow.

oof. The thanksgiving break was nice - lots of work and travel, but at least I did not have any meetings or classes. I thought I could ease into this week, but it has already started of with a lot of unexpected work - all good things, but it looks like I am going to have an unscheduled of day from training today. The last two weeks of the semester are always very busy.

Post up some pics of the Grand Canyon!
