There are also food trucks at the finish line! That's the only motivation I have to do it right now. Caught my daughter's cold. Daycares are a cesspool of germs! On Saturday, the Tri Club is having its Sprint Tri. I volunteered to be an Angel Shark - basically helping people through the swim by giving them motivation. I don't think I'll actually be swimming with them, but I emailed to find out. Would be good to know because I do not have a suit that fits right now. New mantra: "will run for beer, will run for beer..." repeat as necessary to reach the afore mentioned beverage! Nice job signing up to be an Angel Shark! The tri i do in Denver in August has "swim buddies". Yay Wondermoose! Meece are very good swimmers, you know. Oh and Teej, one of my race mantras is "Piglet. Burger. Piglet. Burger." That's funny! At the end of the Boston Support run we did last week we passed a 5 Guys. DS1 did NOT appreciate that smell at the end of the run. |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED StaceyK - 2013-04-24 8:00 PM Ok so off season for me now. I have a couple of run events (wont call them races cause I will be happy to just finish) over winter but then probably a duathlon in early October and my first Tri in November. My question is that I have a training plan for my run and swim but what do I do on the bike? I am fairly average on the bike, I have managed to increase my average speed to about 20km/h (12mile) so still fairly slow. My plan until the end of August is 1 swim, 2 rides and 3 runs a week. Then i will drop the run back to 2 and pick up an extra swim. My main races for next season are a HM in August, the swim leg of an HIM in early November, and an Oly early in 2014. Because of life I can only fit in about an hour on week days and a couple of hours on the weekends. Also because of lighting and road conditions my week day sessions will need to be inside on the trainer, I have a Kurt Kinetic road machine. If you are riding twice a week, can you make one of them outdoors on the weekend? If so, I'd make that a longer ride if possible and then include intervals of some sort on the trainer ride. This could be via a video/computer workout (sufferfest, trainer road) or just "sprint during commercials" or "climb during commercials" sort of workout. |

I would suggest following Jorge's plan (winter bike or something like that it's called) or getting TrainerRoad. It has individual workouts or workout plans (so many per week of set drills, exercises, etc). TrainerRoad is great for keeping you in line with what your cadence should be as well as your energy expended, plus having the program keep track of your intervals and intensity is nice, just let the thing tell you what to do and when! |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED Speaking of shenanigans ... The new mentor season is very shortly upon us (another reason why I'm not starting a new Manatees thread). I figure we keep the same format (I'll update my bio with the appropriate amount of new DNFs) ... there's no ONE or TWO mentors; we're all here to share and share alike. If there's any dispute, whoever sends me Pop Tarts wins. I'll take care of administrative stuff and maybe have some real hanky panky whoopee fun by selectively editing some of your posts. I also vote we open the group up (briefly) to let more (a very few) Manatees swim with the pod. |

Dad had his surgery this afternoon, they cleaned out all the pipes and added 5 (!) shunts to his heart and some surrounding arteries--apparently, the arteries that were checked a couple weeks ago and deemed only 'slightly' (as in less then 15%) blocked had suddenly become 75% blocked--hence his heart attack on Monday. Anyway, they got 'em cleared out for now....I am curious as to why they blocked up so fast--and if so, what will stop it from happening again....Yes, I am still being a basket case. As terrible as it was to go through, hopefully this experience will be the catalyst to help push your Dad toward better eating and being a bit more active. Glad the surgery went well. How crazy is that sudden increase in blockage?! Maybe they were wrong the first time? |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED OK, I do realize that Foxy Tom asked this very same question a few weeks ago, but does anyone have any last minute advice/tips/tricks/voodoo I need to know before my (first!) half marathon this weekend? The nerves have really begun to kick in. Interesting sidenote about the race: they already sent out notification that there will be a bomb-sniffing dog there as well as extra police presence. I, for one, am not worried. All runners will also be given black arm bands to wear in honor/memory of those injured or killed in Boston. |

You've put in a LOT of miles to get ready, and that's already in your legs. It's something you can forget - it will be with you the whole way! Do you know how you like to fuel, have everything lined up? Got your fave running gear picked out? Enjoy being able to run free and just have fun! what's the worst that happens - you walk water stops? Who cares? |

It was really nice to be back. My poor coach had a rough week last week! On top Boston (he's from Boston and worked with the B.A.A. for a long while) his son randomly got stabbed on Friday! Seriously!?!?! He's alright (I guess you can say) but he's in the hospital still because of some pretty severe intestinal damage. Sheesh. Anyway, I thought he might be a little disappointed in my time but he was incredibly supportive. He spoke of the way the Boston course chews people up and spits them out and, interestingly, how an extremely efficient runner is actually at a disadvantage on a course like that because they are used to just gliding along effortlessly but as it turns out, Boston makes you work. Really interesting comments. It is so cool to listen to someone who is both passionate and knowledgeable about the topic. He just frames things in a way that make sense. We are always our own worst critic! Boston is a notoriously tough course (my dad and I had an argument over whether Nike Women's in San Fran was harder, or Boston. He was convinced it was Boston, which he ran. I disagreed - those hills in San Fran were BIG!). You still cut some serious time off your last marathon, on that tough course. GREAT JOB!!! And again, so so so so so so so so glad you and Team Adrienne were safe!!!!! Heh heh, it's true.
Hey, be sure to check out my RR. You made it in there But I totally called you guys out for going home early Gawd, I will never live down that epic lameness, will I?? |
