Have fun I am not racing this weekend, decided a couple of weeks ago I just wasn't ready for it yet. DLers get better soon, this list is far too long (and all the teeth people aren't on it either). Salty I hope your face is feeling better, enjoy your trip to Japan. Racing Manatees! Yanti to Germany with Mutti and Tina Oct 3 October 4-5 Disabled List The asthma is getting better, but I cannot wait to be done with this round of steroids. They mess with my sleep and I feel like I'm in a fog all day. Salty, hoping you are physically and mentally healing. Enjoy your trip!! Japan sounds amazing!
Jayne, I hope you are kind to yourself as your body recovers. The trainer will still be there when you are ready. |

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014 v.2 thread2 CLOSED (Poptart/pet pic bribes?) Hi all! Gosh, this work thing keeps getting in the way of BT! I am in labs 4 days a week this semester, so not a ton of free time . I hope our weekend racers are having a blast and all the DL'ers are healing up. Janyne, glad you are feeling up to getting back to work next week, that is great. Jen, I think pulling the plug on the mud run is best. No sense risking it. I haven't been running much this week cause my knee was still acting up, but after another chiro appt and some more strength training, I did a good run today with no issues, so I am happy with that. I am really happy with my swimming--not sure if it is the strength/core work I have been doing, or if it is the addition of a fourth swim a week, in the form of a semi-semi private lesson (there are 4 of us), but I swam a 5:15 300m yesterday, which works out to 1:45/100m. A few months back 1:50/100m was all out. In other, related news, I got my tattoo today, and I am really happy with how it turned out! I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Member 2689 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014 v.2 thread2 CLOSED (Poptart/pet pic bribes?) Question for y'all: when preparing for a longer race, do you enter shorter races to help you prepare and have shorter-term goals, or do you just train? I'm trying to decide whether to sign up for a few 10k and 10 mi. races before my HM in March. I'm running a 10k race on 11/15 and am not sure whether I should plan to enter more or save my money. I can see benefits both ways. Thanks. |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014 v.2 thread2 CLOSED (Poptart/pet pic bribes?) Are you using a plan? Does it recommend tune-up races? The marathon plan I'm looking at does include tune up races but also discusses the fact that you shouldn't put too much emphasis on the results of those races. |

I'm still(!!) waiting to get one from my running club coach. If I don't get something from Joey by Tuesday, I'm going to start following the one DH used (and liked) so I have some structure. What rationale does your plan give for tune-up races? |

Mary, you're probably going to be ok putting in some races here and there eventually. Experience in race/event settings could help you and have you liked the atmosphere of them? Be sure to keep in mind that while these are events that say "race", they'll just be done in place of a hard workout at that time. You're not really going to put in a big taper for them to be fully optimized, just going easy for a day or two before to be sure you're up for a harder run. Remember, these are supposed to be fun! |

I can see benefits both ways. Thanks. hmmm...it may, in part, depend on how long you're going to "train". Once you have a plan it will be much easier to decide. Here's my really cheap $.02...You've got 5+ months. That's reeeeally long to set your sights just on the HM and keep your mind/body motivated. I wouldn't be scheduling races every weekend, but I think sprinkled in for the next few months is a good thing...especially for your personality that enjoys the energy and the socializing of the races. Doing a couple of 10ks will probably boost your confidence and a 10mi could help you with pacing/hydration in an HM race situation. A lot depends on how you are looking at HM, race it or finish it? Seems like the plans I've seen have 1-2 "tune-up" races of lesser distance (5k and 10k) scheduled but not required.

I have been contemplating one (not IM related) but I'm just not sure that I can do it yet. How much does it hurt, really? |

Anything longer apart than that and I just know that I wont train. Edited by StaceyK 2014-10-06 3:54 AM |

I didn't think that they got me too badly but it turns out today that more and more of them are surfacing. I now even have them on my face, my ear lobe and between my fingers. They aren't as bad as the massive ones I got last year when I raced with Yanti but FACH they are itchy . Does anyone have a good remedy, the SOOV cream just isn't cutting it |

Does anyone have a good remedy, the SOOV cream just isn't cutting it I use liquid Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for itchy spots. Given how many you have, though, it might be better to take the oral form. You could also talk with the local pharmacist. They might have some ideas as well. Yuck!! |
