Hi all!  Gosh, this work thing keeps getting in the way of BT!  I am in labs 4 days a week this semester, so not a ton of free time

I hope our weekend racers are having a blast and all the DL'ers are healing up.  Janyne, glad you are feeling up to getting back to work next week, that is great.  Jen, I think pulling the plug on the mud run is best.  No sense risking it.

I haven't been running much this week cause my knee was still acting up, but after another chiro appt and some more strength training, I did a good run today with no issues, so I am happy with that.  I am really happy with my swimming--not sure if it is the strength/core work I have been doing, or if it is the addition of a fourth swim a week, in the form of a semi-semi private lesson (there are 4 of us), but I swam a 5:15 300m yesterday, which works out to 1:45/100m.  A few months back 1:50/100m was all out.

In other, related news, I got my tattoo today, and I am really happy with how it turned out!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

WOW - I absolutely LOVE the tat!!

Interesting article.  Thanks for sharing it.  My inhales are usually shorter than my exhales, unlike what they recommend.  I usually breath 3/3 or 2 in/3 out.  If I'm going faster or taking the stairs, I'll do 2/2 or 1 in/2 out.  When I do 2/2, it's always based on my left foot and that's my weak side because of my hip surgeries.  I'm going to be focusing on strengthening that hip during this off-season so I'll add in switching to breathing on my right and see if that makes a difference.

This is another interesting article.  This one is for those of us who are "older" women.  http://blogs.bicycling.com/blogs/fitchick/pedaling-through-change

I wonder if that wouldn't still work, as long as you are doing the 5 count for "easy" and 3 count for harder efforts.

This whole pay attention to your breathing pattern is way too complicated for me!  I've tried it and quickly went back to just running and breathing involuntarily

When I was training for my HM, I used Higdon's novice 2 plan (12 weeks) which called for a 5K at week 6 and a 10K at week 9, which I did, especially for the benefit of doing a 10K which up until that point I had never raced that distance before, standalone.  The 5K was not an all-out race, like Ben said, just a little gauge race.  I also picked smaller, cheaper races.

Guten Tag, manatees!  I had a great weekend and race experience and since Yanti is in Germany and I spent the day at Oktoberfest yesterday, I feel the need to address you in German.

I will try to get the RR up this week, although in all honesty, we had so much fun doing all sorts of things, the race almost takes the back burner in my mind, plus I didn't race it full speed, but at the speed of my friend, one of the two running newbies.  It was more like a training day for me, just there for support.

Kinda odd question...

has anyone gotten a "dent" where there was major bruising/trauma? If so, did it go away on its own or did you treat it?  I have a 2" wide indentation a little above knee on lower quad from where I hit my fork. Bruising is totally gone. It doesn't hurt, but easy to see and feel.

I'm sure I have at some point. Eventually little things like this will just quickly fade into the background for you.

Twas the week before Kona, and even the media;
Were making plans and traveling, and using Expedia.

The interviews are set with a bike in the backgrounds,
As Cal and all the podcasts are recording their sounds.

All of us triathletes not traveling are putting in time on the trainer this week
To listen about who will win Kona, you know, through some sneak peek.

Kona comes but once a year, so pay attention or miss,
What to triathletes is really our sport du jour Christmas.

My nose is no longer in the shape of a shatter "s"!!! Feeling pretty good! The dudes still in custody and the state is charging him with second degree assault. I just have to write my victim impact statement for the judge if any of you lawyers care to weigh in...Also, tanto is so sweet, she sent me a card and food! Yanti got spell checked to tanto LOL

I did this about 2.5 years ago. I still have a dent in the bone and fat of my leg where the bruise was and it gets sore when it is cold and itchy as well.

Good news on both fronts!  Victim impact statements are to express how this event has affected your life, eg, how has your life changed since the crime occurred; how has it affected you psychologically and emotionally; what fears do you have; how has the crime affected you financially; what type of punishment you hope the defendant receives; how it may affect you if he were to be released; etc.

I'm sure the prosecutor told you, but you can be present at sentencing and read this to the judge or just wing it or you can provide the statement to the prosecutor for him/her to provide to the court.  Honestly, in person statements are generally more powerful.  I have seen cases where I know the judge was going to be way too lenient with a defendant, but once the victim stood up and spoke about his/her experiences the judge went in a different direction.  You have to remember that some members of the criminal justice system can kind of get almost ho-hum about crime as they see horrible things day in and day out, so they sometimes need to be reminded that there are real victims who are not used to being assaulted!  Of course, they also have to work within the state's sentencing guidelines, so the range of punishment is set, it is just what within that range will the bad guy get and what extra things should be added onto the sentence, eg treatment, restitution.

Those are the basics, feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
