Pricey but maybe a good investment for someone who lives in Hawaii Hmmm... I wonder how it compares to the torque. I mean...how do we know this isn't just fancy marketing for a normal trisuit? I'd also be worried about heat build up. If the suit repels water well (assuming that's what makes it fast), my inclination is to think it would not dissapate body heat well either. Would be an awesome solution for me if it works though. I would definately like to see it in person first though. Thanks for sharing. |

Oh man, that looks awesome. I emailed with Emilio awhile back asking for a version of their ITU-suit, but with front zip. He said it was in the works, but the Liftfoil looks mighty close - just no pockets. I did a race once in their top designed for the swim (I think it's discontinued now) that left me very uncomfortable on the run without a front zipper. To answer the ITU question, they do make an ITU legal suit with the rear zip.
I think no pockets is great for that suit's purpose. And if you really need to carry gels on the run or something, you can just unzip and stuff them down the front. They do have another one that's sort of a hybrid of their Lithfoil and ITU suits, and it has pockets - browse their Forza category. I sound like a Desoto fanboy but hey... I've been happy with their stuff so why not. |

I found this from Emilio on ST, posted in April. It would be cool if those were water-lid pockets. DE SOTO WILL SOON HAVE A NEW TRISUIT WITH THE FOLLOWING FEATURES: |

Pricey but maybe a good investment for someone who lives in Hawaii or if you race ITU? The one race around here that often isn't wetsuit legal apparently enforces some weird ITU rule that you can't swim in a skin and then remove it for the bike and run? I have never heard of this but they DQ'd a bunch of people who took them off after the swim. Even though it's not an ITU race per se - I guess Tri Canada must keep that in the rule book too. I doubt it is enforced much.
It is enforced by Tri Canada. At national LD champs in Magog, I told the technical director maybe he should be telling people rather than DQing them in T1. They made an announcement and many people were surprised. People were removing them on the start line and handing them to officials since they did not have time to go back to T1 At Quebec provincial champs they said they would enforce it because it was a qualifier for world champs. Also, no compression socks on the swim Edited by marcag 2012-09-19 3:05 PM |

The technical director for TC told me that you can add clothing, never subtract. There may be another rule somewhere. He made it sound like if you put on a windbreaker for the bike, you couldn't remove it for the run but that is just my interpretation of what he was telling me. I may have misunderstood. You want to keep the curvature in your back like the first picture. Start in your standard position, then look straight down at the ground, as if you want your chin to touch your chest. This should set your neck in a turtled position. The key now is to try and lift your chin and your eyes, without moving your neck too much. You should feel like you are trying to create skin folds there. You can also help by rotating your shoulder blades inward towards your spine. It's definately not too comfortable, but it shouldn't impact your back...you should feel it in your shoulders and neck. Again, this is most effective when going at higher speeds or into the wind when aerodynamics matter more. Not something you shoot to hold the entire race Thanks Jason. |

I agree with Jason -- and that's a pretty good description of turtling. Your back shouldn't look any different (it does). I'd also say that your new position certainly *looks* better than the old one. Whether it actually *is* better is something you'll have to decide over time. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Getting colder in a hurry in CT. Rode at 6AM and it was dark for the first 30 minutes and I'm breaking out the cold weather gear. I'll probably be riding indoors during the week and sneaking outside on Sundays. How is it everywhere else? You guys setting up the pain cave? I typically don't mind the trainer because you can lock in your zones easier, bit I just really enjoy riding outside and the feeling like I'm going somewhere. It's interesting, but I've seen some various interviews with Potts, Rinny and others who do a lot of indoor workouts. I know Potts ride over 90% on the trainer (happen to watch a good interview the other day just surfing youtube while my daughter hogged the TV) and Rinny was saying she does at least 1 workout per week on the treadmill because it helps her with her run form. Thought that was interesting...alright...end of rambling. Have a good one everyone. |

Melon Presser![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh hai ... sigh ... been having some bad one-sided headaches lately and wrote them off as part of the sinus infection / aftermath /whatever. Went to the dentist today for a broken tooth. Good news is that's fixable; one root canal and a lot of pain and grumbling now, but it's been treated and I'll get the permanent crown next week. He also looked at another tooth (hindmost molar) that suddenly became very sensitive (okay, flat-out painful too) a few days ago. Yesterday I had woken up with a headache and could just not get with it all day, and was running a low fever. Same story today. Turns out the tooth is badly infected. It's already had two root canal treatments so now it's just got to go. But the infection is yucky enough that it's infecting me systemically and the dentist (he's actually a U. Mich trained maxillofacial surgeon) would like it to clear up a little bit before yanking the tooth. He knows I'm an athlete and he said absolutely no training this week and then not for two weeks after the tooth removal. (This is because he knows I'll ignore him anyway so that he can at least just squeeze one week of recovery out of me). AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! Right now, right smack at peak phase training for Ironman! Shyte. I feel like I can't catch a break. Maybe Ironman will just be a case of whenever I have enough accumulated base built up and get lucky with good conditions and everything coming together on the day. Deep down, I am very grateful, even joyful that I can have these things treated and have the means to do so. I'm just really unhappy about outside things right now. And feeling rather sorry for myself, which I find very distasteful. And I'm whining. So attractive. People have real problems and I know this isn't one of them. I just need to sulk and hoooOOOoooooowl for a bit. |

I did a bad job highlighting the U Mich in your original post. The sarc and Buckeye reference was for that. As a native of the Buckeye state, it's deep within my genetic code to poke at UM when given the opportunity. But no, no runny. No floatie or spinny either. Rest and recovery is training, too. I was not aware of the U Mich / Ohio rivalry. (Terrible at college sports knowledge. Mich are Wolverines? No?) Rest and recovery ... these sound vaguely familiar. |

It also means the rides tend to be a bit shorter than if I were outdoors. |

Second last day in Montreal for me, heading home tomorrow afternoon and I can't wait. In the last 6 weeks I have spent more time away from home than home and it's getting a bit old. I've spent the last 4 days training people on using some equipment in French and while I can do it, it's really hard on the head. |

I realized the other day that I did NOT have 1 flat tire this entire year...that gives you an idea of how much I am on the trainer...some sort of record considering i am around 3100 miles this year on the bike. I am probably doomed next year! |
