Anyone seen or heard of the new Praxis power meter from Verve Cycling?  Crank based, measures both legs, and an interesting marketing technique that makes the user interact with the website to get to the final price...which for me came down to $970.

Well, what I thought might be a potential case of gout turned out to be a stress fracture of my sesmoid bone in my right big toe.  I woke up 2 weeks ago with a lot of pain in the toe out of nowhere.  The afternoon of the day before I had done some pedaling out of the seat on the CT but nothing hard.  My running has been pretty low key lately.  So, I can't attribute it to any big ramp-up in volume.   Finally went to the podiatrist yesterday and although the x-rays weren't conclusive (would need MRI) she is treating it as a stress fracture.  Supposed to wear a boot for the next 2 weeks.  Luckily swimming is no issue and I can pedal on the trainer if I don't get too crazy.  Haven't run in the 2 weeks since it started though.  Glad it happened now rather than in the spring.

Masters meet this afternoon. SCM

200 free - 2:20.69
50 free - 27.99
100 breast - 1:21.39

200 free was good, 50 free ( 2 hours later) - not so good, 100 breast (15 mins after 50 free) was pretty good.

That sucks Jim! Hope it heals quickly and you can get back into training soon.

So, big swim training block now?

That is solid work right there. I have trouble with swim meets. I still haven't quite got the ramp up, go, cool down, ramp up, go, cool down rhythm of a swim meet.

The 2 hours between the 200 free and 50 free certainly threw me for a loop.  I was feeling tight before the 50 and got in to warmup again and during the warmup I felt great so I thought I was ok.  Probably needed to spend a little more time to get ready.

Well, completed my first marathon.   Goal of beating my IM mary times didn't materialize.   Thought I'd go between 5 and 6, ended up at 6:24 and that was 121/230 OA, but only 14/19 AG.   My friend went 4:55 and was 4th female, 1st F 40-44 and 25th OA   Crazy hard!   Much harder than I thought it would be, especially as my calf started seizing up and getting really tight at mile 3 of the 4 mile opening climb, and I had to deal with that for 23 miles of hills, my mantra was just get to the next mile, that will be one less mile to walk when it goes really bad.   Basically walked every up hill which was, pretty much, a lot of it.

Add to that 85+ temps, and going into the race after two 60 hour work weeks, and being the last race of a season I was done with, well suffice it to say during the extremely painful 2 mile downhill finish, I actually said to myself "thank goodness dinner reservations aren't until 7...."

I was really done about mile 9 during a hairy downhill but the problem was I was all the way on the other side of the island at that point.

Was very cool though at mile 20, saw three buffalo, including one that was basically at eye level (we were on an elevated trail on the side of a little plateau) about 10 feet from me.   Huuuuge fricking animals.

I try to find the positive about every race, this one both my friend and I said at the end "never again, that was awful."  But here even 24 hours later, the nostalgia is setting in a little bit, and I am remembering the pain less and less and the experience a bit more.

And 48hours later he registers for another :-)

Congratulations for slugging it out !

X2 - that is some kind of marathon.  Not sure I would have the guts to sign up for something like that as my first one, especially when not 100%.

Got some video from my swims on the weekend.  Lane 6 (closest to the camera) for the 200 free, Lane 5 for the other two.  If anyone follows the swim threads on ST, JasoninHalifax is in the lane beside me for the 200 free.  My turnover seems to be quite a bit slower than the others.

Chris, I hiked the Trans Catalina Trail in September of 2013 -- to this day, that was one of the hardest physical challenges I've taken on.  To run a marathon on that trail is nothing short of amazing....and maybe a little crazy!  Congrats on getting it done, despite the hot temperatures, the cranky calf, the long season, and the incredibly challenging terrain!

Those are some FAST times, Arend!  Congrats!

I did a 200 off the blocks last week and was about 27 seconds slower than you....it's crazy to me how fast you are when I can put it into perspective like that!

Only 27sec?  Nicole you're a fair bit faster than me then.  I just don't understand these times when compared to my own swimming.

You really are a triathlete - you go to a running race with an Ironman visor and a swim meet with no cap!
