kickitinok - 2010-01-12 11:36 PM I also take Vitamin D, Omega 3 & 6, and CoQ10.

Question: I went running outside today for the very first time. I was only able to run for about 2-3 minutes before having to walk for 2 minutes, then run 3 minutes, walk 2, etc. I was so bummed. I'm up to 7 minutes running on the TM at the gym before I have to walk. What gives?! I do have to say that it was pretty cold, and my lungs felt as though they couldn't get enough oxygen....like the air was thin or something. I was heaving.

I feel as though I've taken one step forward and two back in terms of my run.

How long does it take before I can start to run at a respectable pace outside? I'm not looking to be Wonder Woman, just not gimpy wheezy woman who has to walk as much as run.

I'm kinda bummed. I thought I had made more progress than what I saw today.

Don't sweat it.  3 or so years ago when I embarked on my tri journey, I thought 2 miles was going to kill me and this was after doing a beg. sprint plan for several months.  Since then I've run 2 marathons.  Just follow the plan and don't get discouraged.  You have to get past the OMG this is so uncomfortable and I can't breath stage.  Once it becomes easier you will be able to pick up the pace and miles.  But it may take awhile - it took me about 6 months before running was fun.

As far as supplements - I am not a big believer.  We work fish, flax seed and walnuts into our diet.  Plus we eat all local, organic grass-fed meats, milk and eggs which are higher in omega-3s.

HOLA......What's on tap this weekend?  a little race? some big training? DO TELL!

I'll kick it off...no racing, but I am a bachelorette this weekend so lots of biking, a couple of test run/walk efforts; foot permitting and some fun girl stuff--a facial and a massage!  Today is a swim lesson with SJ.

Oh and I am on the count down to Mexico....only 10 days to go!

Hasta La Vista,
Suzy

Sam's birthday present weekend.  Dropping the kids off at my parents Friday and picking them back up on Sunday.  Dinner Saturday night at a nice French restaurant.  LOL, want to see Sam try and do the calorie calculator after that meal...

Speaking of restaruants, Kim have you ever been here?  http://www.lafolie.com/

And can I say I've never been so happy for 40 degrees.  We may try to drive out to the Eastern shore for a long bike on Lonestar type roads - nice and flat!

jvanis - 2010-01-12 10:16 PM Here goes, hopefully this is good enough for some analysis of my fit so far, open to any advise.

My Video

I think that looks pretty good Jeff.  Pretty close to spot on from all the FIST measurements.  Didn't see any rocking in the video.

Not sure if it would help on the comfort factor a bit if you could have your elbows pulled back a bit to get that angle closer to 90.  They look like they are in a good position on the pads.  Not sure though because that would close up the other angle which you don't want.

Edit:  Sorry should have explained myself better, I meant by having your elbows move back you get closer to a 90 degree angle from forearm to bicep.  more support to hold yourself up. : )  Doing that though would close the other 90 degree angle, so not sure.

It's close enough everywhere to be above my junior internet fitter's ability to point out much that could be of use.  Maybe Ryan might have some thoughts if he sees anything.

How does the fit feel on long rides, can you do that for 56 miles?

Yep, looks pretty nice! I'd basically echo everything Tony said: no hip rocking, angles look nice. If you were to drop a line vertically from the front of your saddle (it's difficult to tell, do you have the Adamo?), how far behind the bottom bracket would it be? You might be able to push the seat forward and raise it just a little bit, which would move your forearms a little more vertical for better support, as well as maintaining your nice 90 degree angle in your elbows/shoulder/trochanter. You look comfortable and powerful... how does it feel?

Thanks to both of you for taking a peek.  Like I said this has been a product of constant adjustment, and this last little bit (dropped the seat and changed the angle a bit) made things feel much better and got rid of the shoulder issues.

I think I could possibly raise up the angle of the aero bars or the whole headset to get closer to 90 degrees on the forearm/bicep.  The only issue I have is still some numbness with the Adamo, some days its 45+ minutes into a ride, others its after 20, and I cannot pinpoint how to fix it.  The only part I really question is the angle of the Adamo seat (using the rails to level it off right now) I do not feel like I am slipping off it at all right now, so I wonder if lowering the front will help take some pressure off as well.  My sit bones are finally accustomed to the seat.

I am looking forward to this spring and get outside on some nice longer rides.  I start the season with some sprints and a few "long sprint/short oly" (1/2 swim, 21 or so bike, 5-6 mile run) And I may try and get in on a 1/3 Iron distance in August.  My 1.5 hour trainer ride on Sunday went well with very few issues of discomfort.  I am going to keep working on the saddle and see if I can get it adjusted or else I may be looking into a V-flow.  My biggest complaint with the P2 thus far is adjusting the seat.  Its not easy to change the angle of the seat since those parts lock in, I always lose the start position and then have to guess where it was and change from there, any suggestions on that part?

Nothing huge planned, I do see a day of rest (always hard for me on the weekends) Hopefully another longer trainer ride, My day of rest may include getting the PT setup on my bike.  Then some much needed time to finish a few posts on my blog I have been working on for what seems like an eternity.

Not much on tap here this weekend. Except I may throw myself a little party since it's the last weekend of hunting season and I get my husband back.   See, I have a Tri season and he has hunting season and it's 11 weekends from Nov-Jan and he's gone from Fri to Sun.  I hate that he's gone all those weekends but I try and be nice about it (sort of) since I know deep down my tri training takes up way more time than hunting.  His is just condensed.

So other than that I'm going to spend some time with two of my sisters and get in a long bike on Sat and a Run on Sunday assuming the weather cooperates.

tahrens - 2010-01-12 9:59 AM Mett - I use a Cyclops Fluid Trainer and love it. Very quiet.  Keep you eyes open for sales.

Steve -  with the exception of a few bloody noses and black eyes from my college sport, this is the first real injury I've had.  However I love the sport and I love the training.  I don't do well with exercising just for exercising sake, but if I get fit and healthy as a side effect then I am all over it.  The best part of this lifestyle is all the inspirational people.  My favorites are the Sister Madonna's and Team Hoyts of the world; the BOP age grouper that is 30 lbs overweight and sprinting accross the finish line for all their worth with their family cheering them on; the veterans that start off the Army Ten Miler and dig deep to find the guts to suffer through the course with missing limbs, having my girls draw me good luck cards at school when I have a race that weekend.....that's the good stuff.

Well said Tracy!  After my first tri in 2007 I had some aches and pains and found the couch again for 2 years...  Not sure why I gave in (up) then...  I have had a couple of minor hurts and then my MCL that sat me out of running for about 2 months, but now I am back at it...  Don't think I am NOT going to quit this time, especially with a support group like this one!

This weekend is the 5K that is part of the Houston Marathon event. It looks like I will be running the 5K with both my teenagers and also my wife. Well, for now, my wife says she is running the 5k, but still thinks she might run the Half-Marathon. She has had some training challenges and is torn between getting the Half done to show she can still do it or enjoying a 5K for the first time as a family. Tough choice..... The kids have been positive and looking forward to the 5k though, so should be fun. The weather is supposed to be ideal too on Sunday after all the rain expected over the next couple of days.

LOL! I'm a cat lover and cat owner for 30+ years (yeah, basically my entire life). Lmk if you have any questions! Don't buy lots of toys crap. You seriously can just find a magazine that you're going to toss anyways, and crumple up a page in to a ball...keeps them busy for hours. :-)  I was never a big dog person, but I adopted my first dog almost a year ago...we now have 4 cats (Keno, Reno, Mocha, Hobbes) and a dog (Stardust)...can't you tell which ones were adopted in Las Vegas? *winks*

No racing for me.   However, I'm looking into a Friendly 5k Race on President's day. They also have 1 mile walk.  I think I would like to at least try it. No goals, just finish, and less walking, more running.

Also - Swim Coach lessons start this weekend!

Hey DJ:

I am looking into/starting with a swim coach.  How often do you go? I am thinking of having coaching 1x/month as at $100.00/hour that is all I can afford.

Hmm.. thought of masters swimming but I think it is too much on my plate right now.

Thanks. :-)
