godekjames - 2011-07-11 11:39 AM I wear compression socks at work (I sit all day) never out in public, my wife would leave me. I do get a good chuckle during IM week watching everyone walk around in them, whatever works for ya!

First let me say good luck to all and congrats on making it to the starting line! Ok so its last minute and if it has been covered in the thread I apologize. Anyone know of any room reservations not being used for either Fr - Mon or Sat - Mon? I am looking to go up and volunteer with my wife and of course get in again for next year (it really is addictive). If you hear anything please pass along. Will start calling around. Thanks and again best of luck to all you racing this year. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Aid Stations Every Mile on the Run...for real?  Is this typical in IM races?  My original plan was to walk every aid station assuming they were about 1.75-2.5 miles apart.  I guess I get to walk every mile now   Will be THRILLED if this is actually true...great for cooling, hydration, ''thank you volunteers'' chats, etc.

Very true and very common! Of course, the can seem like they are 10 miles apart on the run at times!

Just my 2 cents, but my strategy was to go with my aero bar drink for fluids only. I refilled it every 10 miles. I think it helped with 2 things, first I wasn't loaded down with 3 bottles of fluids for those first climbs out of town and second, I found it easier to keep track of how much fluid I was drinking every 10 miles. Again, just my 2 cents. I can drink anything so having a particular drink I trained with was not an issue for me. Good luck.

Thanks for this advice - I was planning on doing something similar. Do the perform bottles they are handing out fit into a standard water bottle cage if you want to take an extra?

Yep, me too. One torpedo bottle on the aerobars- although I might roll out of T1 with an empty second cage on my down tube just in case I want to hang on to a bottle of water between aid stations at some point during the race. That a good idea? I want to stay as light and aero as possible.

I was wondering the same thing about the perform bottles - I just got a couple of cases to train with from here on out - they seem to fit in the cages pretty well (although I wouldn't trust them if you are running rear-mounted torpedo launchers) but they come with screw off caps - do they have "sports tops" on them for the race?

From what I gather from last year, yes, the bottles will have a "sports top". I'm probably going to be carrying too much with me... Speedfil on the frame but I will have open cages for the rear to grab fresh water or perform to throw back there.

I'm going very minimalistic with hydration as I do with every race.  I try not to use my bike as a pack mule.  I'm going with a bottle of concentrated infinit on the downtube and a bottle of water between the aero bars.

Then all I'll do is fill the water when needed and switch the infinit bottle at special needs.

Yes they do fit although they are smaller than a normal water bottle (height wise). They also put a twist (sport) top on them, unlike the IM Perform you get in stores.

I'm still trying to find a place in the Rochester, NY area that sells it. GNC no longer carries the bottles around here according to the two stores I went to. Been using the powder, but I know the pre-mix bottles taste a little different.

The only place I have seen it is at Performance Bike shop, I bought a case online. I mix it 50/50 with water, too strong for me strait.

X2 1 water bottle to refill and or relace and 1 concentrated perpetuem bottle to swap at half way

I am in the back and forth stage - one workout I am ready to crush it, the next I can't get out of my own way. So right where I should be.

Same as the doc.  I actually felt a little sluggish a couple weeks ago but this past week have been feeling good.  I don't do a long taper though.  More like 9/10 days starting end of the week.  I've been backing off just a bit on intensity here and there to make sure I don't dig myself a hole though.  I feel like I'm on track.

I'm a big fan of doing anything I can to create the illusion of control. I've been doing all my long rides with 3 bottles on the bike and plan to start the bike leg with 3 bottles. Two self mixed IM Perform on the rear and one water on the seat tube. Just seeing the familiar sight of my bike looking like it's ready to take me on a long day is comforting to me.

My mind turns to mush on long rides so I need simple.  I have three pre-mixed Infinit bottles (two in Xlab wing and one on cage).  Each is marked with 5 lines and my Garmin beeps every 15 minutes to drink a certain amount.  Get my water and fuel and no guesswork (finally got my mix right) and do it based on time rather than distance.  I'm not fast enough (or skinny enough) to worry about lugging the extra ounces up the hills affecting my time   Figure I lost 40 lbs since last year so carrying the extra pound or two is still a bonus lol... Will swap them out with replacements at SN.

If it is humid I have a small bottle of Endurolytes that I supplement with on the hour, but generally not necessary with my current mix.

Speaking of being a sherpa, what do you guys carry for a toolkit?  Mine is pretty simple (small multi-tool, spare tube with valve extension mounted, and a tire lever).  XLab wing has the CO2 cartridges on it.  Just don't know how frequent the sag wagons are for support if something happens.

I found myself telling my bike to "F-Off" this morning as well as mumbling some other choice words at it before my ride.  We used to be so close!  So i'd say "yes!"  I'm ready to get this done!
