Regular 75 Prairie Village, KS | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread I don't know why we wouldn't be able to get in the water close to the race site. Worst case scenario we pile in some cars and drive to another spot on the lake and get in the water there. I wouldn't mind driving if necessary, although I highly doubt it will. Expert 939 Tulsa | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread I've never understood why everyone wants to swim the day before the race....I know it's low impact and doesn't use much energy, but i'd rather do a short run or something to flush the legs out. Not saying I won't do it for the social aspect, but i don't see the benefit for the race. Will someone enlighten me? |

Everyone's different, yadda yadda, YMMV.

Regular 75 Prairie Village, KS | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread I am interested in the swim because it will be good to get in the water at the race start before that actual race. Just peace of mind for me. Plus, my wetsuit is very new and I will only have been in it once or twice before race day. Anyway to make me feel more prepared! I will also ride and run a bit on Saturday to help get the blood flowing and help with the nerves. |

Not saying I won't do it for the social aspect, but i don't see the benefit for the race. Will someone enlighten me? I do it for the same reason I try to drive the bike course and see the run course- familiarity. I want to know how clean/murky the water is, temperature, etc. Strictly psychological for me. I think Lisa C does it because she's a wicked fast swimmer and likes to show off Matt |

Regular 75 Prairie Village, KS | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread lisac957 - 2010-05-11 1:28 PM No... you'll set up T1 and T2 (separate areas) the morning of the race just like you would any other race. There are no tents for changing. No one will hand you your bag. Last year you could put stuff out at T1 but the space was so limited you really couldn't set out a towel or anything. Lots of people kept their stuff in their gear bag hanging from the bike for T1. Here's a pic from last year where you can kind of see limited stuff on the ground - this was while the pro's were coming out of the water I think. In T2 you could set stuff out the morning of, but again lots of people kept it in their bag, I'm assuming for fear of rain or wind blowing stuff away. They should come out with an Athlete's guide in the next few weeks that explains everything, too. What types of bags do people generally use for the transitions if they are going to store shoes, socks, et al. so they don't get wet? Small gym bag? Tri Bag? Large plastic bag? Thanks! |

Veteran 297 Kansas | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread Last year there was a chance of rain, and most people had their run gear inside a simple plastic bag. You don't want to take up too much space because T2 is empty in the AM, but by the time you get there off the bike, many of the bikes will be there and you don't want your stuff lost in the shuffle with everyone racking their own bikes. There is not much space between each number on the rack. (by the way, not implying there will be "a lot" of bikes because of speed on the course, only because of the wave starts ... and the fact there are a lot of bike there when I get to T2 |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread Yep I think I had a plastic grocery bag. Cause all I had in it were my running shoes, race belt, visor, and some GUs. Oh yeah, and my tutu and magic wand (watch for both again this year!) |

Member 14 Las Vegas | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread Wind like that is no fun. I usually opt for a swim or put the bike on the trainer on days like that. I guess that won't be an option on race day... |

Veteran 169 | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread I raced in that wind on Sunday @ the KC tri...kinda sucked. Hadn't really thought of how the wind would affect the swim. I think the lake being choppy was even worse than riding into it on the bike. |

For how many days is the campsite reserved? If we come down on Friday, is the campsite reserved on Friday? I should know this, and perhaps it's in this thread... but I couldn't find it readily. I have no idea how this race is going to go. I am feeling a little sluggish and tired... in need of a recovery week... but I don't think I'm really going to get one... so we shall see. |

Yup, we've got the campsite for Friday through Sunday, #272; which should be near T2. I should hopefully have everything in order once you drive on in to the campsite; whenever you decide to come down. |
