I am getting the spreadsheet updated and will post when I have everyone's data (if available today). Here is the list of participants. Did I miss anyone? Have you thought about setting up a Google Doc spreadsheet so that everyone could just update their own stats so you don't have to do all the grunt work? Does anyone know how to make one of the charts with links in it to folks blogs? That would really help, too in addition to ^^^ |

Here are a couple of quotes I found. Last article was by a local doctor on healthy eating may mean eating more rather than less....his last quote may be particularly true....."Remember, our goals are to eat well and in such a way that we can avoid hunger, fuel our activities, and manage our weight. If you are feeling hungry, fat, irritable and sleepy, try eating more, not less. This is a good one and one I'm trying to get better at. Some days I'm uber-organized and have a great lunch and snacks packed and feel well fueled and good. Other days I'm in search of healthy options as I race through my day, don't eat enough and then I get that weak shaky feeling and you know you waited too long. It was recently suggested to me that I'm not eating enough to carry myself through and I think they were right. I'm going to try to up my caloric intake - mostly through fruits and veggies and lean protein. We'll see what happens. Thanks for sharing! The one thing I believe (and I am not medically trained at all) is that most people do not get enough fats in their diets. I am not talking about running out to McD and eating a Big Mac but good healthy fats tell us that we are full and keep us full longer IMHO. This was great advice though Judi - thanks for posting the original! Totally agree. I eat nuts, avocado, cook with olive oil and use oils such as flax in smoothies. All good stuff! |

I know this works best if everyone is posting their results so that we can all bet motivated by everyone else, so I feel like a serious loser because I have nothing to offer. Well, except for giving up sugar and cream in my coffee, which trust me, is no small task. Congrats on everyone and their hard work so far. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a body fat scale? |

Master 1397 Granvile, Ohio | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge chrisrunzs26 - 2011-08-08 12:15 PM Well I thought I had a pretty good week over all. I hit 99% of my training and ate fairly well. That being said I am up .4lbs and my Body Fat% is actually down .7% I did my measurements (tape) and they are down in my arms and legs, the same in my chest, hip and stomach. I am going to break down and keep track calories and fat, protein and carbs. for at least a few weeks. I think I am eating all right but just to check. My goals this week include: Getting 100% of my training in Staying positive and read inspirational things Not giving in the the little voices in my head that tell me that it would just be easier to stop working out and to just eat what I want. The little voices are showing up less and less with more and more exercise. Chris Hang in there Chris! Tracking for at least a few days may be enlightening. Definitely worth a try. I find that the longer I eat less processed food, the weaker the voices get. Main thing is to hang tough and keep fighting through. Your body will get with the program and start changing! |

Went to my cycling studio for my testing, it was much worse than I expected....according to the machine I'm 26% bodyfat and skin-fold says 28%, either way I am not thrilled as I used to be 19% although the scale number is less, not the way I want to start my morning. Next week I'm going to start the metabolic efficiency program, test is on Tuesday morning. Basically a test that determines where my body burns fat.Edited by AbbieR 2011-08-08 12:45 PM |

THAT doesn't sound good... You know there are some really good frozen yogurts out there that have the same nutrition as the non-frozen stuff- though not the same as 3 scoops for sure. You are better than me. I have to have one or the other in my morning coffee. |

Basically it's a blood/gas exchange test, breath in and out through a hose in your mouth with clips on your nose, not fun! The test determines what training zone/heart rate I need to be at for my body to burning carbs as fuel and switch mostly to using it's own fat stores. |

Photos are so honest that I feel guilty I was not as strict with my food intake (ate a lot of unnecessary junk last week) or workouts (skipped a bunch). Master 2005 Silverton, Oregon | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge tnickerson - 2011-08-08 5:19 AM Down 3 lbs and nearly 3% bodyfat for week one! I ate mostly healthy natural foods. Had a few meals that weren't clean, but overall, I'm really happy with the way the week turned out. I mostly backed off on the sweets and starches and focused on eatin lean protein, veggies, fruits, and low fat dairy. I did well getting my cardio sessions in - only missed one, but not so good on the strength sessions. I'll do better this week! Week 2 goals: "It is important for you to take total responsibility for your food choices. Our body composition is completely dictated by a huge number of tiny decisions that we make on a daily basis. In order to change ourselves, we need to take responsibility for ourselves. What we will look like tomorrow… Is based on decisions that we make today, right now. Its a classic conflict between short term pleasure and long term gain." CONGRATS!!! Awesome results! I absolutely LOVE all of these quotes. I think I'll commit them to memory! Keep up the great work! |

Master 2005 Silverton, Oregon | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Congrats to all the losers, and hang in there to everyone else! We will do this! I'm down 1.8 lbs and .8% body fat. I didn't get a chance to do pics and measurements today, so will do them tomorrow. I'm actually LOVING getting back to healthy, natural eating and already feeling much better. I did have a cheat meal at Red Lobster today with my mom for her 70th birthday, and have absolutely no guilt and will get right back to my healthy eating plan. This is a huge improvement too! This week will be very challenging as I am going to Vegas on Thursday and running a 51k on Sunday. I'm working on a plan for allowing myself some leeway without totally blowing it, but I know I'm up to the challenge. |

Expert 671 | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Week 1 Results are below. I did consider creating a Google doc spreadsheet but I like tracking our progress personally. With Google docs, I feel it would be easier for someone to quit (not that you would) the challenge (I have seen this with myself). By tracking each one of you and myself personally, we all are accountable to someone besides ourselves. I have decided not to track BF% since we are all measuring this differently or not at all (which is fine as it is just another measure to track success). It still is a good thing to measure weekly if you have the capabilities (I still cannot find my calipers! My sons may have used them to measure something somewhere). Keep up the inspiring progress--I know I need it to get my diet in check. The problem is that when I run more (relay coming up so that is all for me right now), my appetite is out of check and I eat, eat, eat. The hell with portion size. This has got to change for me to see my line head south. |
