Extreme Veteran 1123 Sidney, Ohio | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Finished March with 113 miles which puts me up to 329 for the year. Doing good overall and sticking with my HIM plan, but starting to get peeved I can't get my 5k time under 21:00. Basically I have been stuck around 21:20 for about a year now! I think it's about time to put the buttercup away and push through a race |

I thought about trying to lap the bunny but I really need to ramp up my time on the bike and in the water so I don't think that is going to happen. Spring has finally sprung around here. Just a hint of warmth in the air and lots of cherry blossoms. |

You've got a lil marathon comin' up anyway, right? Got a goal time? |

Extreme Veteran 1123 Sidney, Ohio | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Originally posted by Asalzwed I run everyday for somewhere around 25-30 miles per week. I try to get a "long" run of around 8-10 miles, 1 medium run between 5-7 miles and then the rest are around 3 miles. For intensity I normally try to do the medium run as a Tempo run, other than that not much intensity aside from a few occasional hard efforts on the shorter run. I have done more races in March that I think have helped and I hope that if I can run a race on fresh legs that I could get the time down. I would definitely welcome any thoughts or advice, my log is normally kept up to date with-in a few days.Originally posted by mambos Finished March with 113 miles which puts me up to 329 for the year. I'll be thinking about you this weekend. |

You've got a lil marathon comin' up anyway, right? Got a goal time? Saturday. McMillian has me at 3:35 based on my last 5k, 10k, and HM. I think that is a bit optimistic given my last marathon in October was 4:09. I'm thinking more like 3:55 would be a significant gain since then and I'd be very happy with that. This will be my 12th marathon so I know what I'm up against, just not sure how much I've really progressed over the Winter. Do you think I should push harder than that or go with that through 20 and see from there? |

How do you determine you pacing for the tempo runs? It's always a balance in stressing the system with intensity and volume. If my focus were a 5K PR I would likely do more on the intensity side. But that of course has to be done safely so that you don't end up injured. Have you heard of Daniel's Running Formula? We've got a thread on it here |

475 | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Just checking in! Surgery last week on my sinus AGAIN but feeling pretty decent. Ran Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs this week. Felt great and breathing was good. 4-year old decided to kick me in the face (HARD) yesterday so that may set me back a bit- swelling, bleeding, trouble breathing last night and today but overall still better than pre-surgery. Geesh! Regardless, I am on pace for my 1200 for the year. Total 2014 mileage is just under 325. This month I missed almost a week due to the surgery so thinking I would normally hit about 110 per month on average. Ironman training months are bound to crank that up a bit. Great job out of all of you! What a fun way to stay on pace! Hope those of you that have had races are running strong! Boston Marathon is coming up. ANYONE?? My racing buddy is headed there and she is on fire! She is shooting for under 3:30. No doubt she'll do that without a problem. |

That just sounds too painful to even think about. {shiver up my spine} Glad you are past it and hope your ironman training goes well. |

Veteran 869 Stevens Point, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: 2014, Run 1000 miles Been a while since I checked in, at 467 miles for the year. Had a slow week last week due to work/vacation travel. Still ahead of that bunny though!
Also learned something today, a night out on a the town is NOT a good way to prepare for a 17 mile run. |

Yes this was my first and it was an awesome journey. Dec 2 to the April 6 marathon dropped 20 pounds. Got stronger and so much fitter feeling and looking. I did an 18 week plan, ran 624 miles overall. I think it was a very good plan for prepping me for my first. I am considering using the same plan but doing the strength training and pacing workouts that the plan calls for this time around. I didn't do either of those for my first, just the miles. I have my eye on a Nov 1 Arkansas marathon. |
