GO MARIA!!! - I hope the bite/wound issue is OK, what everyone else said, I've found waterproof tape to hold better than waterproof bandages/band-aids. Also like Karen said, honestly, I doubt you'll notice it on race day even if you did nothing with it. GO FORTI!!! GO BLANDA!!! Although I think you already went I'm so very sorry, Hands-Marie. Such a beautiful boy. <3 |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Manatee Mayhem Part Deux - 2017 Edition Originally posted by Hot Runner If you have socks you can bike and/or run in comfortably, I would wear them. Plus a waterproof band-aid for the swim. Keep a few spares in transition in case they're not as waterproof as advertised or somehow get displaced. You can try sockless, but I think anything you put on to protect the bite is more likely to come off that way. If worse comes to worse, just be bloody. I've had several races where somehow I ended up with a bloody wound from the timing chip strap. Ugh. Probably a little late now, but I've had some more recent waterproof band-aids stay on exceptionally well. Through some hard workouts, showers, all day. Actually forget the thing is there. |

Yeah and I see the whole section on registration for next year.....but I don't see a date?! Am I going insane? (don't answer that - it's rhetorical LOL) I asked Ironman and they replied, "Yes, the 2018 IRONMAN Chattanooga is slated for Sept. 23rd, 2018." You are the best! THANKS!! |

Member 2098 Simsbury, Connecticut | Subject: RE: Manatee Mayhem Part Deux - 2017 Edition Hope everyone had a good weekend and congrats on those great races! On another note, I'm watching the coverage in Texas and it's breaking my heart - watching the FB page where people are asking for help - so awful. I hope the sun shines down there soon and dries everything up! Although the devastation will take much longer to recover from.............. |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Manatee Mayhem Part Deux - 2017 Edition Originally posted by Hot Runner Say hi to Oregon for me! It is about as close to Heaven as you can get on Earth, in my opinion. (Okay, you have to put put up with the rain, but.....) I have seen much of the world and many of the places that are considered most beautiful (Hawaii, Tibet, Bhutan, the Alps, New Zealand) and I am still always glad to come home there. (Sadly, it will no longer be home, at least in a physical sense. But you can take the Oregonian out of Oregon, but not the reverse.) Here's a little Mt Hood. Thanks for info and advice. I barely had any time for shopping, so decided to just wear one sock. I'd rather lost 15 seconds to put it on than possible minutes of struggle during the run. I knew I would not be breaking a record, so it didn't really matter if I lost any time in transition or not, so at least yeah, I saved myself some pain |

Veteran 2842 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: Manatee Mayhem Part Deux - 2017 Edition Hi all, Belated check in here, but all clear in Austin. We got only a fraction of what the coast got (about a foot and a half of rain and some wind - trees down and such, but flooding was nothing compared to greater Houston). 9 pages late to the new thread, but "in." Background - love to race (just about any kind); short on time for tri's just now (my favored flavor of race); keep telling myself that I'm not falling off the "I'm not really training" wagon yet keep finding myself running or on the trainer. Or registering last minute for races. Just trying to sweat for an average of an hour a day at the moment, nursing a shoulder back to health, and will get back into more organized training/racing in the coming years, I believe. Until then, just happily bopping along... Matt |

Veteran 2842 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: Manatee Mayhem Part Deux - 2017 Edition Having caught up on at least some of the thread now, I can clearly say that I'm firmly in the moron camp (see: "training but not for anything in particular" above). Live in Austin these past 3 years from my native Boston. Married a couple decades to The Better Half (DW), with three kids (senior, sophomore, 8th grader who took up cross country this fall to get out of PE and now looks at me and Kim as TOTAL morons as opposed to the partial morons he used to think we were, as we do that stuff by choice). Kim runs, so we happily have that together. OK, I'll also admit that I age up next year and have had intrusive thoughts about getting back into training hard while I have the advantage of being a young oldster. lolz Matt |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Manatee Mayhem Part Deux - 2017 Edition I've been having a short discussion with Janyne on tri-bikes and it got me to thinking. It seems like this particular piece of equipment can cause headaches (or stomach aches) for some that are purchasing, due to $$$, availability, specialization, and any other number of reasons. So, if you had the opportunity to go through the purchase process for your current bike(s), how would you do it? I have a 12+ yr old roadie that is next up for replacement and I have begun thinking through a few things:
My last 2 purchases were from my LBS and they seem to be treating me right. The size of my town kind of dictates this one shop scenario, and the only other options are not nearly as viable, due to other factors such as service, price, proximity, etc. |
