Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED jogo - 2013-04-30 8:11 PM I posted this long 21 mile story of Big Sur and when I submitted it it disappeared. BT frustrates me!!! I had an amazing time. Met amazing people. The course is not only beautiful, it is transforming. I watched the BAA race director (with whom I became friends and that was a whole long story) who was representing Boston go from being sad and defeated to renewed. It was beautiful. There were so many Boston 2 Big Sur transformation stories. It is a spiritual course. I can't explain it. The 21 miler was so relaxed and wonderful. We even started off with 40 minutes of pre-race yoga at the oceanside, at dawn, to start the race and stay warm. Just an amazing experience. I don't recommend my couch potato to 21 mile training plan (I have run less than 50 miles total in the past year) but I wouldn't have missed this for the world. Luckily I have enough fitness that I didn't die on the course and could enjoy without suffering. Momo helping me pack, and wanting to go with me. Pre-Race Yoga to get one with the Earth. Only in California. Ready to go. All Oooooommmmmed up. One of the climbs ahead
I got Chariots of Fire to serenade me down the hill this year. Last year was The Rose.
My roomie and I with our medals.
CONGRATULATIONS JO!!! What is it with cats and suitcases? I'm so glad you got to revisit this incredible race. |

Extreme Veteran 536 | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED So, I didn't end up doing the half marathon, I decided that with the mentally insane weekends I've had, I just didn't want to get up at 6 am and drive 45 minutes to a race i didn't really care about. And didn't want to pay for. Instead I did a long run with my friend in gorgeous Ipswich (I've posted some photos of it way back when). We did 9 miles at a much more civilized 9:30am, there was a light breeze and tons of sunshine, just a perfect day to be on the road. AND, I ran really strong, starting out slow and then speeding up as we went along, finishing the last mile at a comfortably hard 8:45 pace. I think my fall HM goal is actually realistic (break 2:00, which would be a 12 minute PR)! |

Very, very cool, Jo!!! It's funny, I didn't even know Boston to Big Sur was a thing until I was literally running Boston and talking to a guy about it. These are beautiful pictures and it looks like you had an amazing time! |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED Yay, the store that I have dedicated a shocking amount of hours in the past year and a half finally opened. It was a renovation project. The new store is a "community store" which means the profits are put back into the neighborhood. Anyway, here is a before photo And here is an after, looking the opposite direction: and some others: |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED So several months ago I let a friend borrow my 10 speed for their daughter who wanted to give triathlon a shot (her school has a team). Last night they came by to pick up DH's old MTB and brought back my 10 speed. Obviously I haven't been on it in quite a while. Pod-thoughts on using that for the 100k this weekend? Not road tested for quite a while, TT has the compact crank (and all the training hours). On another note... a local company has arranged a running series. There are 6 possible races, all have 5k to HM. If you run 4 of the six you get a "free" race series tech shirt. DS1 likes the idea. We already missed 1 so we have 5 opportunities. Two of them are evening ice-cream runs. I'll probably do it to help keep him motivated. The first is June 2. Maybe I can encourage him to do the last one as a 10k. Hmmmmmm |
