I still think TP is really bad. Sam--isn't Lonestar like an ocean swim? To my knowledge it is salt water but not up and down wavy stuff. I'll make sure I have the ear plugs. :-) |

Using the method you describe is actually much easier than the old device agent. Now, can anyone explain why my pc shut down halfway through a CT course? I was thinking maybe it was my screen saver? I can disable that and try again. Any suggestions? When I check comm ports in the options menu, it said "access denied" the other day. Now, it says not found. weird. Like i said, if it's not one thing....it's another ![]() This is Tony btw.. If you go to Control Panel, Power Options, set turn off hard drive and turn off monitor to never while you are riding, then put them back. |

I am not...would love to but the $$$$ just isn't in the plan. I will probably have to foot the bill for 2-3 rooms so I will be staying close to the Fort Gordan area just on the Atlanta side of Augusta. Stayed there last year and it worked out OK..not the best, but Sleep Cheap & Race Hard is the moto this year. Steve |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well I had the longest run of my life so far, this AM: 16.04 miles in 2:30. It was not as bad as last weeks run. I have to workout a better routine to stretch my hamstrings. One question: I get chaffing on my inner thighs from my shorts as I sweat. Should I: 1. Use body glide, 2. Wear some form of compressions shorts 3. Buy a new brand of running shorts (if so what) 4. A combination of thge above. Thanks Doug |

Thanks Doug Doug I would wear compression shorts (I use CW-X) and still use body glide. I used to wear Race Ready shorts for the pockets, but it was a disaster with the last 10K to go. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() CAN I TOOT MY OWN HORN? You all know my tire woes on the CT, right? well today, I am riding at 2.17, reasonable, right? Suddenly Watts go down the toilet and I know I have a flat. I am PO'ed....I have no other time to do this ride, I'm thinking the bike stores don't open for three hours and I can't call Paco so early. So I take the back tire off (get messy), get the tire off (grunted a lot), take out the tube and spend about 5 minutes trying to find another one (house is a train wreck)....finally do and start putting it back on thinking I am never going to get the new tire all the way around the rim since i never have before....in less than 2 minutes, I do....I fiddle with the chain (get ever messier) and within 20 minutes am riding again.....funny thing is I am going to a bike maintenace class tomorrow where the primary topic is changing your tire.... ![]() Edited by SSMinnow 2010-01-16 11:25 AM |

I hate doing tire-changing, and "they" say that the more you practice the faster you get. I don't practice. But every time I do get a flat I am getting faster! I always want to be the damsel in distress and ask for help, but usually don't (did once, cuz I was ending a long ride and would not get home to get my kids from school if I didn't get help!). Yay for you! You can teach tomorrow's class!! ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Doug, when I go for longer runs I'll do one a few things: If only going for a run, I just wear running shorts (unless it's cold). Then put Body Glide or like product on the chafing areas... but also put it on the seams of whatever you're wearing. I think that works really well esp with tri shorts/suits. That way when your shorts move, you'll still have protection from the seams or the upper leg area of the shorts when they start to ride up. |

Wear some form of compressions shorts 3. Buy a new brand of running shorts (if so what) 4. A combination of thge above. Thanks Doug Great job on the 16 miles, Doug! I second the body glide on the seams. Odd thing about compression shorts, I really liked them last winter (I got some CWX ones), but then they started to feel too confining if the weather was above 50F, so I switched to my favorite Adidas Supernova shorts and have been using them ever since, even in cold (30F) weather. My legs seem to get warm pretty quickly, and I feel like I can run more freely in running shorts vs. compression shorts. Did you ever have any chafing issues with tri shorts on the run portions of your tris last season? If not, probably the compression shorts are the way to go. Re: your hamstrings, I like http://physicaltherapy.about.com/od/flexibilityexercises/a/hamstingstretch.htm the first three of these seem really elementary, but if you do them really slowly, they are great stretches...and they are easy to do in front of the tv ![]() |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() DANGER MORE HORN TOOTING BELOW..... ![]() Didn't want to go to the pool for the 9th day in a row, but off I went since it was on the plan--"work the weaknesses Suzy" (wonder who says that??). Did my ez 200 warm up and thought "Hmmm, not bad" so I ripped off a 2000 yard straight swim to finish up my challenge with a fellow BT'er, Ridgelake who is doing some enormous swim event this month. It wasn't fast, but it felt pretty smooooooooooooth. Now, I am officially done exercising for the day. Need to get ready for my massage. The man's birthday is tomorrow so probably should start thinking about that too..... Enjoy the day. Edited by SSMinnow 2010-01-16 2:24 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ***** CAUTION: Actual training question ***** Did my first ride ever on a CT this morning (what a blast....I need to win the lottery and get myself hooked up with one of these!) and have never used Watts as a training tool because I don't have a power meter. I have looked to see if any other forums has information on what would be good Watt numbers on a ride and found it to be very confusing. I rode for a little over an hour this morning and averaged 253 watts with a Max around 475 according to the CT. I did verify that my bike computer mileage and averages for cadence, etc. were very similiar. The guy at the LBS made some comment about that those being pretty good numbers, I was just wondering if he was blowing smoke to get me to come back for another ride (sales-guy 101) or being truthful. Any help with legitimate numbers or a range or numbers that someone should be looking for with watts? Dino |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I hope everyone had a great week. Man alot of you guys are gonna be at Augusta, I'll be there next year. This year I dont feel like I'll be ready to step up to the 70.3 distance. Good luck to you all! I had a great first week of Base 1 training, but I didn't quite hit my target on the bike. Next week, I must make sure I get all my rides in. I am way behind on my MG reading, I'll try to catch up and comment where I can. Have a great weekend!!!! |

Dino No power expert here, but those numbers sound pretty outstanding next to my 130 watts average the other day and 260 max...granted I'm puny at 104 lbs, but DAYUM!!! Maybe some of the power folks can weigh in. good job, Dino |

For those of us on the proper side of the border who don't use the metric system (ahem, Canadians...), divide your weight in lbs by 2.2 and then divide your watts by that number. For example, I'm a scrawny 132 lbs or about 60 kgs. My functional threshold (FTP) is the watts that I can hold for an hour, which is about 235. This works out to 3.9 watts/kg. Averaging 253 watts for an hour is an excellent number! Training with wattage is a great way to realize big improvements on the bike; there are a lot of good, hard workouts to raise your FTP. I believe the big advantage to having power on the bike is when you're racing because you're able to pace yourself: once you have your target power in mind, you try not to exceed it too often, even if that means that people are blowing past you in the first 20 minutes of the race... stick to your plan and you'll often reel them back in before the end. |

That would be your FTP. Mine is currently sitting around 235-240 hehe Ryan and I have basically the same FTP, (but I would have to weigh less what I was in High School to equal his weight) |
