Good news this morning, I ordered the ANT+ updater from Saris, hope that since they are in Madison I will get it this week yet.  The guy I purchased the rim from was really good to work with and refunded me some $ to cover the update.  Turns out he got shafted when he bought it as the guy claimed it was ANT+ updated and on a C2 rim, I dont care about the C2, but the ANT+ was important to me.

My goal for the week: 100% scheduled workouts from Monday - Sunday.  It has been nearly a month since I have hit my workout totals, excuses, illnesses etc.  This is the week it changes!

Monday: 50 min bike (20 min TT) 30 min recovery run
Tuesday: Swim 45 mins (2x1000 MS)
Wed: Bike 1:15, Swim 20x75 MS
Thurs: 1:20 Tempo run
Fri: 55 min bike (5 min TT) Swim Long swim day 1 hour
Sat: Ski/Snowboard Day!!!!
Sun: Long ride 1:30-2:00 hours

I just was reading the webpage for my first tri this year (indoor pool swim) on May 1, found out that they said if you think you will be faster than 1:12 (600 yd pool swim, 13 mile bike, 3 mile run) that you should register for the elite wave and you will still be a part of your Age group, I think I will be very close to that especially being a pool swim, so I need to see if they can get me switched over.

OK, here's the bike porn as promised. I know that many (most) of you have $5K+ bikes, but I'm really in love with my $500 (orig. $850) 2008 Specialized Dolce road bike. I especially love the girlie decals!

I'm thinking I'll ride this for a couple of years then upgrade

Very nice, congrats!  Nice deal on it as well, that always adds to attractiveness too! That seat makes parts of me cringe.

John, great race.  Your race reports always make me laugh.

Suzy, tire changing today - Shain Cycles tomorrow!

Trina, way to go on the 2 miles.  That first breakthrough is huge.  2 miles was my mental hang up for a long time.  And I'm right with you on the $500 bike ($800 retail, picked up on clearance).

Glen, great story about the kids.  Sounds like a wonderful time - and that you all have something great to look forward to.

LOVELY!!! I've heard great things about this bike, and you got an awesome price! I'm especially jealous of the girlie colors (my bike is all boysie colored... and when I replace my handlebar tape [what's that called anyway? is it called that?] I really want to go pink but it will clash with the rest of my bike big-time). I compensate by wearing lots of pink when I ride!

Let us know how she works and HAVE FUN!!! Wheeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tracy wins the prize: my leg problem is a tight/strained abductor muscle. The woman doing the massage  said it was tight along the entire length. She also diagnosed my achillies tenderness to tightness in the muscle running up to the soleus. Right leg feels a little better left feels worse from her torture.

Funny part was when she was working on my quads. She is 5 ft nothing and says how does that feel. I say fine, it was not in any pain coming in. She then replies that she is applying all her weight! I could hardly feel her there.

Anyway thanks for the brace Reub, but it appears some stretching and exercises will help that problem more.

SSMinnow - 2010-01-18 7:13 AM George--what great news....your wife is in the sport you love AND you get a new bike in the process.  Cool.

My bike fitter was over last night and installed a set of LOOK pedals on my current road bike.  He has been searching for a better way to get weight off my metatarsals.  My Shimano DAs were loading them to heavily.  Rode on them today and so far so good.  The last two oustanding items are the wheel set and stem and then the GURU will officially be ready to build. Hoping to have my first fitting right after we get back from Mexico....stay tuned!

Oooh awesome! I think you'll like the LOOK pedals. The only gripe that drives me batty sometimes is I have to look down every once in a while when taking off...I'm doing good just taking off, and being able to clip in, but sometimes my feet slip.   From what I'm hearing, because it has a wide base and it supports a lot of your feet, it's usually better for those who are prone to injuries to the feet.   I have no experience in others type of pedals.   I do wish the look pedals can be double sided though.

Can't wait to see the build!

Great news, Doug.  I think my achilles problem is also muscle related.  I've focused on stretching and rubbing lately and it's much better.  Same as my quad tendon.

Keep the brace and "Pay it forward" if someone else ever needs one.

BTW, your 5ft nothing masseuse makes me chuckle.  My OT when I broke my elbow was about the same size (5', 100 lbs, maybe).  But man could she make my cry like a baby.  Trying to get my elbow moving again after being immobile for 12 weeks...brutal.  We've been friends since high school...not sure if she felt bad about the pain...or enjoyed it.

Running/plan fustrations

It has rained in Vegas - about time (although, I hate it because it throws off my dog...she gets confused, and it takes so many trips outside for her to go potty!).

Anyways - the rain probably will let up in a little while, but should I go out for a run in the rain on the trail? I'm afraid it will get a little muddy and wreck my shoes. Should I go for a swim (1200 meters of all DRILLS! as given by my swim coach!) instead? But I would think that the muddiness will increase the traction a little bit, and softness lowers the pounding?   I have never done anything in the rain or post-rain, so I don't know what to expect.

I don't have a set plan, just 2x2x2 (and I failed at getting any bike rides this week...my bad).  I tried following the BT plan, but I'm like at week 7...I'm too far ahead.  I just wish I can magically come up with a plan, ramping it up a little bit, taper down before my first tri...but no, it's hard..especially when I want to do many more runs, and many more swims! Arrgh! *breathes a sigh of relief* Now my fustrations is gone...until tomorrow. :-P

Hey

I swear I said it was an adductor and I am not 5 feet tall, but I guarantee you that if I was working your leg (as a massage therapist, Trevor) you would darn well know it!  I have a therapist who is five one, maybe weighs 100lbs and works on the Radio Shack Junior Team.  When she is working on me it ain't pretty, but it is effective!

Doug / Reub - I'm glad to hear you guys have some positive news regarding your achilles issues.  I had the same  problem last spring.  For me, I was unable to stretch the muscle because of lack of mobility in my ankle joint.  Luckily we were able to loosen it up to allow me to stretch it.  One thing she found worked well was ultrasound and a solution used with it called DEX.  I think she said it's an anti-inflamatory gel that when used with ultrasound, works deep into the muscle.  Great news for both of you.

BTW - is it 65 anywhere else right now?  I just got in from my first outdoor ride of 2010 (33.5 miles, 1 hr. 54 min).  65 tomorrow and Wednesday, then back to average in the 50's.  I'm loving this stuff!

Yep. It's 51 degrees now (although, the rain contributed to the lower temps), yesterday it was a nice 70 degrees. Ahh...it's my trainer that's sitting sad in the corner!  Maybe I can take it outside, and do the training outside. LOL.

I haven't biked indoors in months.

I was going to make a comment too but John's comment says it all...in fact, I almost spit water at my computer screen!

When I started my BT plan last year, I adjusted the week 1 times for where I was currently and then did the incrementals each week based on the plan.  It worked well for me and allowed me some flexibility because for where I was fitness wise at the time it was way too light for running, a little light for swimming and just about right for biking.  So if you feel like the plan isn't enough for you, adjust it but keep with the rules of increasing volume per week and decreases in volume for the recovery weeks.

yeah you don't want to do that.  also i'd think twice about going swimming.  you might wet and ruin your makeup..

GO RUN IN THE RAIN!!!!!  train in it, race in it!  and have fun!  running in the rain is awesome!!

you have plenty of time before now and irongirl. do not try to make up lost workouts by ramping up too much.  focus on the BT plan from here on and make a concerted effort to hit those bike workouts... and the others too

LOL! at everyone's comments...I was actually waiting for someone to say, "HTFU and stop being a prissy and go out there!".

    I'm going!!

Thanks for the suggestion - I now feel a little bit better, and I'm starting to grasp what to do with training plan-wise.  It totally make sense on 3 weeks increase volume, then 1 week recover and on and so on until taper week.
I'm working on fine-tuning my plans though.
